The trip back was a bit too quiet for my taste but that is reasonable considering everybody have just witnessed me used magic and killed a man with his own dick. I would say that's a little too far but i'm 80% sure there's worse deaths in the Akame ga kill universe somewhere. The knights are off gathering intel regarding the four rakshasa demons with some of them keeping an eye on the group, it won't be long until Merraid tries something funny. I'm now standing at the gate back at the capital after asking Gozuki to send a request for them to accept me as a guard again. Coincidentally or maybe deliberately i don't know, Gozuki sent the request along the mission report making it sounded more like a threat. As a result, i got made an officer instead.
Cornelia: Take care Yosif, remember to write to us... wait do we even have a mailbox?
Guy: Call me if you think you found the right one if you know what i mean.
Akame: I'll miss your cooking.
Gozuki: Are you sure about staying at the capital?
Me: It may not be the best job out there but hey, the people needs me too you know.
Gin: Just you wait Yosif, i'll be one of the best assassins there is when you come back.
Me: Hehe i'd drink to that. Well i better get going, it's going to leave a bad impression if i'm late on my first day to the job.
I bid farewell to my little dysfunctional family before heading to my supposed office. I could already feel the pain coming from the paperwork i have to do daily. For some odd reason, my office happens to be in the same building as my barrack when i was a guard only that it was upstairs. A lot of the people there still recognize me and choose to avoid me as much as possible because of my history. Thankfully, i have my own secretary who i could for- *ahem* ask her to fill out my paperwork instead while i go on patrols. She took it with a smile that leaks immense killing intent as i hightail the fuck out of sight before she could strangle me. I at least had a warm welcome when i reached the slums. The same old man from before told me that a lot of folks have been looking for me to help them and thought the empire got rid of me after what happens. A lot of issues have risen over time including but not limited to robbery, murder, arson, rape, vandalizing, bribery... There were also a few small ones regarding helping with moving cargo and helping out in the fields but they all suggest that i take care of the criminals first. The next 3 months i was caught in my own routine of waking up, cook for the poor, criminal hunting, doing chores, cooking again, kvass break and taking bounties. There were also events held then and there mostly gladiator fights in the arena. At first, the host thought that i was a patron buying a ticket to the show and laughed at me when i signed up to fight with me being a cripple. He didn't laugh as much when i decimated the competition with nothing but a sticks and stones. It's gotten to the point where the fights ended too brutally and too fast for the crowd that they had to ban me for being too good at what i do.
I also occasionally spot Kije and Logue around town. Bols is still upset at himself but it doesn't sound as bad as before. News also got out that Najenda defected and joined the revolution and Esdeath has been officially promoted to general. Canon is going to start soon and i still haven't taken care of loose ends like the wild hunt or meet the other characters like Seryu. Not even 5 minutes ago i joked at how ridiculous it would be if i randomly bump into one of the main characters out of nowhere... I'm starting to regret taunting fate.
Old lady: Thank you for helping me carry all this luggage young man.
Me: No problem, i hope you enjoy your stay at the capital.
I have just helped an old lady with her bags who visited from the West to see how her son is doing. Realizing that noon is coming soon i had to rush back to the markets where i usually make lunch for the people. I rushed back too fast and accidentally bumped into a certain blondie when turning a corner.
Me: *bump* Oh sorry i wasn't paying attention.
?: Why in such a rush big guy?
That voice... Looking closer at the woman i see that she is young, curvaceous with short blonde hair with two long tufts that frame the sides of her head and golden eyes. She wears a revealing outfit with a black tube top that seems to defy physics, detachable sleeves, pants, boots and a scarf around her neck. And with unmistakable big sis energy radiating from her not to mention the light scent of sake, it was without a doubt Leone of Night Raid.
Leone: Like what you're seeing?
Me: Huh? Oh no no i'm sorry it's just that i haven't seen you around before miss...
Leone: I'm Leone, what's gotten some one of your standing in such a hurry?
Me: There's something i have to do at the market now if you excuse me i have to go.
Leone: *grabs my shoulder* oh surely it's not that important, why not treat a lady to a drink?
Me: Maybe another time, i REALLY have to go.
Leone: Oh? Mind if i see what's all the fuzz about?
Me: Sure, why not?
Wait... *facepalm* Why the fuck did i agree to that? I swear to lord above if this thot think of me as nothing than a testosterone filled idiot then i'm stabbing the bitch. I try to outrun Leone to the market to see if i could lose her on they way but she stuck to me like fucking glue even if i did a front flip from a rooftop for a shortcut, she is still on my back. At least that it's cooking time and i'll be in public if she actually tries to kill me so i proceed to the usual spot normally and begin heating up the outdoors kitchen. Leone was confused at my actions but chances are that she has only been recruited recently and hasn't heard of me. And so i serve people after people Olivier salad and pelmeni all the while Leone observes me quietly from the back. It wasn't until clean that i got a unusual reaction of her.
Little girl: Thanks for the meal mr Yosif *skips away*.
Leone: WAIT! YOU'RE YOSIF?
Me: Yes... that's my name?
Leone: You're THAT Yosif who killed the guards from before?
Me: Well i wouldn't phrase it like that but yeah.
Leone: I can't believe it! I've heard so much about you helping the people from the slums and i thought that you were another one of those corrupt bastards.
Me: I don't think most officers have one arm but what does this have to do with me?
Leone: *looks around* I haven't fully introduced myself yet. I'm Leone of Night Raid, a group of assassins operating under the revolutionary army.
Me: Okay then? I still don't see what does this have to do with me.
Leone: The revolutionary has noticed you for a while and we originally planned to recruit you earlier but we lost track of you when you got fired. Yosif, how would you like to join the Night Raid to take down this corrupt empire?
Me: Hmmm... Nope.
Leone: Great! I'll just show you around base and w... EEEEHHH? What do you mean nope?
Me: I refuse, there's a lot of things i don't agree with regarding the revolutionary.
Leone: B-but d-don't you want to help the people?
Me: There's a lot of differences between helping and harming Leone. Shedding blood like what you are doing right now is just unsettling the people and agitating the empire further. What makes you think it's a good idea to tear down your own home, who the fuck is going to defend us when the neighboring countries decide to "visit"? Not to mention the crossfire killing even more civilians and i don't you so called righteous people sparing some enemies that clearly deserved a fair trial. I bet a 100 gold that the word rape is no stranger to you people either.
Leone: T-that's i-i...
Me: Believe what you may Leone, i'm not judging you for joining the revolutionary. But if we cross paths as foes then i will fulfill my duties without hesitation as you should. Now if that's all then i have some bounties to collect.
[Later, at Night Raid's newly established base]
Najenda along Mine, Lubbock, Bulat and Sheele all wait patiently for Leone who is currently 30 minutes late for their meeting (Akame hasn't been recruited yet). Another 5 minutes and Leone arrives and sluggishly drags herself to her seat whilst smelling of alcohol.
Najenda: Leone did you really just go drinking on the job?
Leone: I... might have had a few.
Mine: Unbelievable! I didn't take you to be THIS lazy and incompetent!
Yet to opposite of what everybody there thought, Leone didn't even deny that insult. She just hangs her head low and stay silent. Mine herself is now worried, she haven't worked with Leone that much but she can tell that this is definitely not normal.
Najenda: Leone, did one of your friends passed?
Leone: No nothing like that... Do you remember that guy Yosif that the revolutionary tried to recruit?
Bulat: I heard that he challenged and won 16 consecutive fights with high ranking officers before resigning. No intel has been collected regarding him yet, have you found something Leone?
Leone: You could say that, i ran into him today actually.
Najenda: That's great news, when will he be joining us?
Leone: He refused.
Lubbock: Wait what?
Leone: When i met today i saw that he was now an officer unlike before. He returned about 3 months ago and called in some favors for it. 3 months, he has been there to help the people day by day yet what were we doing with that time?
Najenda: Where is this coming from Leone?
Leone: I'm worried boss. I've always looked up to Yosif when he first stepped in for the people. And now he claims that what we're doing are wrong. I don't know if i should take Yosif's words or yours anymore.
Najenda: I understand that our actions aren't morally acceptable at times but you have to know that this is the only way left. The people has been oppressed for too long and sooner or later they will lash out, we're just helping them avenge their loved ones, there's nothing wrong with that.
Leone: I hope you're right boss... But still, the certainty in his words... it was like he has seen it happened himself.
Mine: Oh get your head out of the gutter, if Yosif has been doing such a great job then why are there still so many corrupt officials in the capital?
Leone: i guess he hasn't done much about that.
Mine: Then it's our job to do it for him so stop sulking. Let him help the people and we will deal with the corrupted like how i scored another kill from a new record of 3000m not long ago.
Najenda: I knew Pumpkin would suit you. Now there's one less monsters inside the capital.
Mine: But i don't understand how useless our other assassins are.
Lubbock: What do you mean by that?
Mine: The bastard was a bloody cripple, how did we not managed to kill him?
Leone/Najenda: He was a cripple?
Najenda: Wait... our target Yanis was at peak conditions what do you mean he was crippled?
Leone: Mine... did he wear heavy white armor indoors with a small emblem of a red hammer and sickle on his back?
Mine: Uuuhhh yes... How did you know?
Leone: *falls to the floor* NO! NOOOOOOOOOO!
Bulat: Leone calm yourself!
Leone: YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT! YOU JUST KILLED YOSIF!
The room falls into silent as the bitter truth sinks in. Mine's legs grew heavy as she too collapses to the floor, regret torturing her soul. She wondered why her target was so polite to everyone under him and now she realized that it wasn't her target that she but a hero of the people. As Mine sat there unmoving, Bulat and Lubbock have to physically hold Leone back to stop her from tearing Mine to shreds. Najenda grows speechless with a headache coming her way. How is she going to tell the people that the "righteous" revolutionary has just accidentally killed the person who has been nothing but kind to them?
[Earlier]
Another long day at work is over again. After politely asking my secretary to handle the paperwork yet another time, i had to sweeten the deal with more vacations day or she would've jumped over the counter and stabbed me with her pen. This meeting with Leone may have changed her view on the revolution and more hiccups in canon and now that she mentioned it. Night Raid has been made but is Akame in there yet? I quickly connect the mental link between the knights i sent to guard the elite seven for information. Oarburgh has assaulted the group a month ago with them getting absolutely crushed with my knights in the fray. What's interesting is that after Merraid got her ass handed to her by Kurome, Babara arrived with Taeko. Instead of trying to continue the fight, Babara asked for a compromise to bargain for her allies' lives. Even more surprising was that Gozuki actually accepted and let them go after confiscating their current weapons along a large sum of gold to please the higher ups. That's somewhat problematic, some of them may join Chelsea in the revolution... I'll deal with it when the time comes. Hmm, i haven't checked with Sergei or Victor recently, wonder how they are doing? What the hell? What's that distant light out the window? It's too low to be a shooting star so who the hell is turning on a spotlight in the middle of the night? Hold up... Is that getting... bigger? I look closer at the light and realize it gets larger by the seconds until it dawns on me that it was big ass energy bolt heading straight for me. SON OF A B- *BBBOOOOOOMMMM*. Wonderful, i'm back in the void again... Wait a second, I CAN'T MOVE! I struggle to feel any of limbs and realize that i don't have any limbs or a body for that matter anymore. Instead now i'm just a small ball of light. Is this... my soul? Wait i can see something in the distant darkness. It's my original body! But why am i not in it? I possessed the knight using the mental link so i didn't die did i? But if by possessing it means transferring my soul there then why didn't it transfer back? Oh wait i didn't transfer it, i got forced out because of the energy beam completely annihilating the knight's body. That means i couldn't take the mental link back, now i have to float there. I have to remember to transfer my soul before deaths in the future or i will have to waste my time doing this shit over and over again... This is going to take a while...
