Chapter 56 - The Urge

Justin's P.O.V

I got back home by 8'o clock thereabout. When I opened the door, I spotted them at the dining table, having dinner. I felt kinda bad that I came back home too late for dinner.

Lisa gave me a stink eye as I greeted Bob and Mirabel. I didn't really mind because she'd been behaving bitterly towards me since this morning. She didn't even reply when I greeted her.

I ran upstairs and took a shower and in five minutes, I got back down and joined them for dinner. I sat down and helped myself to some mac and cheese in a bowl which was placed at the center of the table.

When Bob and Mirabel were talking about Bob's promotion in work, Lisa just sat… stone-faced and sitting right in front of me. I hated to see her look that way and I don't know but I kinda felt responsible. Maybe she was still holding a grudge against me cos of our earlier quarrel. And she probably wasn't going to answer me if I asked. Anyway, I'll still give it a try. Why in the world did she hate the fact that I was dating her best-friend??? Why would she have anything to hold against the both of us? Maybe her and Ana had some crazy rule against either of them dating the other's relations. But that only happens in movies.

"So Justin, how did the date go?" Bob asked.

I normally would've been shy about talking at table but I didn't even care this time. "It was wonderful!" I replied, smiling.

"I'm through. Thanks mom… and dad. I'm going to bed," she stated plainly then got up, tucked her chair in and stormed up to her room.

"Goodnight darling." They said in unison but she didn't even turn back to give a reply.

"What's up with her?" Bob asked his wife in audible whispers.

"I don't know… I'll go check up on her."

Lisa's P.O.V

I read my Biology textbook for up to two hours before I switched to Chemistry. I got tired of reading at about 12.am. And that was when an idea struck my mind—I could go out with Justin this night for our usual 'patrol.' It had actually been a whole week since we had an adventure together and that was when I had had my first kill. The memories were still green.

Maybe we could even talk about him and Anastasia and somehow, I could try to win him over. Don't know how though.

My powers had been bottled up inside of me for so long now and I felt the need to you know… just let go. I closed my eyes and those ice plates appeared on my forearms again. The temptation was extreme and this may sound a bit crazy but I honestly urged to kill someone else—just to see the lifeless bodies in a pool of dark red blood knowing it was all my doing.

It was the only thing I saw when as I closed my eyes—me stabbing that man in his head with an icicle. The yearning was so damn strong that I couldn't even deny.

I got up from my chair slowly and walked out of my room… with the ice plated melting gradually. I locked my door and then knocked at Justin's.

"Who's it?" He asked dryly.

"It's Lisa."

"Come in," he permitted after about ten seconds. I opened the door and spotted him reading with his bedside lamp. It was the freaking first time I was seeing him read at home. It was probably because our exams were going to be commencing in a week's time.

"How may I help you?"

"I was thinking, maybe we could go out this night…" Before c could complete my statement, he cut me off.

"I'm sorry… I'm pretty busy thins night." He apologized but that didn't help anything.

"Whatever!" I said carelessly. "I didn't even expect you to come in the first place anyways." I added, pissed. "Have a nice night." Then I got out to the balcony though his window and jumped off.

My hover board magically appeared under my feet. The one thing I could always trust. I flew away with dazzling speed. Flying without Justin by my side was certainly new but not something I couldn't do. I could protect myself and probably even the whole city without his help so I didn't need him anymore.

After some minutes of flying through the cold midnight sky, I touched down. I didn't really enjoy the flight since my mind was totally clouded with rage. I was just so angry with Justin and his stupid decisions.

I really needed to speak with him but how's that possible when he totally rejected my offer? I really hated the way he's been neglecting me nowadays and it's just because of some girl I introduced him to.

The main reason I still came outside though he rejected me was so I'd pour all my fucking anger and frustrations on some random criminal. Anybody!

I landed by Southside Corner and walked in. Because I was wearing a black jumper and an equally black hoodie, I fitted in perfectly. It was the outfit I always put on whenever Justin and I came here. The dim lights of the bar enveloped the place. I put the hoodie on, walked confidently towards the counter, ordered a coke and went to sit by a corner.

I was the only costumer but that didn't frighten me. Southside Corner was open 24/7 and was normally where criminals did their transactions but that didn't frighten me either. In fact, it was all I needed—unsuspecting criminals.

I put on my ear pods and began listening to 'Hello' by Adele to drown my sadness. It was working perfectly. At a point, I even felt I was just floating peacefully in nothingness. It was all I needed.

I sipped my coke occasionally just so I won't leave too early. Sometimes, the bar-tender would glance sharply at me… probably asking himself what a young girl would be doing in such a dangerous place at a time like this.

That was when I had this weird feeling. I quickly emptied my bottle and left the bar.

I walked around the curb aimlessly in the direction my heart was attracted towards. I swear, I had not even the slightest where I was going. I only depended on my heart… it was just like a compass.

After walking for about an hour non-stop, the yearning ceased. I stood in front of a large, fenced and probably unoccupied duplex which I guessed served as a safe house. Fuck! I was stuck in the middle of nowhere. 500 meters north, south, east and west, just thick forests and this trunk road that had trailed me to my doom.

Just when I had finally lost all hope of finding my way back home, I heard a vehicle approaching. From the loud noise it made, I assumed it was a large truck that was approaching.

Before it got into sight, I ran and hid behind a large garbage bin. I peeked over the bin and its blinding lights finally appeared from around the corner. I was right—it was actually a large truck. I watched it drive through a large gate which the driver had previously opened but wasn't careful to lock it back.

I tip-toed stealthily towards the gate and opened a slit which I slipped through. I hid behind some bushes that were very close to the gate.

It was pretty dark till the driver switched on the lights outside the large duplex. They caused an extreme contrast to the total darkness which had enveloped the place earlier but then, I spotted a CCTV camera that had been staring at me for the whole time. Then I saw about a dozen more placed at specific parts of the compound. The owner must be pretty security conscious to have all those CCTV cameras in his house.

Well, I didn't really give a damn about them since I was wearing a concealing hood.

I peeked beside the bushes, watching the man's every move. He walked to the large trunk and opened it up. Then he started talking to someone. I couldn't tell what he was saying cos of our distance but I noticed that he behaved pretty hostile towards the person.

Then I saw some malnourished girls in rags and handcuffs crawl out of the trunk. They looked so unkempt and untidy; you could mistake them for insane people. But from all other indications, they were not. They were about seven and looked about my age… or older.

And then it clicked; I now knew what I was doing here—the guy was probably a trafficker and maybe I was brought here by my heart to save the lives of those unfortunate girls.

My heart was beating rapidly cos I didn't know what to do. Goddammit! This was exactly what I was asking for.

One of the girls tried to run away through the unlocked gate when he wasn't paying attention but once he got the clue, he went after her like a hunter. The forest had so many places to hide in and I thought he'd lost her till he appeared with her, holding her by her hair. He locked the gate with a padlock.

He thrashed her mercilessly and she cried and yelped endlessly in pain. My heart cried for her—the torture was excessive.

Then he sounded some warning to them in I think… Spanish or some language related to that. They nodded sharply and followed him as he led them towards the duplex.
