Chapter 12 - First Day at Ruby Empire High School

Justin's P.O.V

On Saturday, Bob, Lisa, Mirabel and I went shopping. We bought a lot of clothes, school materials, devices and foodstuff.

****************

My alarm woke me up by 5:30am. I was pretty excited about going to that school. To meet new people and all. I always liked making new friends.

I went to take my bath, then, I dressed in a grey shirt and blue blazers. I tried to look as plain as possible on my first day. By then it was just six o'clock and it was still about one hour to breakfast so I lay on my bed to watch a movie on the new laptop Bob bought for me. I kind of liked the fact that I was going to start a new life. It meant new devices and clothes and other stuff that dad and mum never agreed to buy for me.

They even bought me a new PS4, so I won't have to be sneaking into Lisa's room to play. Damn! I felt so embarrassed the last time she caught me. I had planned to leave the room by 1:30 but I don't know how time flew so fast!

Before I knew it, it was 7:00. I left my room and went downstairs. I smelt a sweet aroma and it led me straight to the kitchen. Mirabel was making pancakes in the kitchen and they smelt so amazing!

"Good morning," I greeted.

"Oh, Justin, good morning. How was your night? Hope you slept well?" She asked and smiled. Her smile was so heart-warming, with the freckles and all.

"It was fine. And I slept well" I answered and smiled back.

"You're ready for your first day at school already? Cool!" She said and smiled again. I was beginning to like this woman.

"I want to help you." I said. I was trying to create a good relationship between us.

"You don't need to, Julie is here to help." She resisted.

"I want to. Don't worry, I love cooking!" She was trying not to stress me, but what's the stress in cooking?

Before long, we finished cooking and the family and I ate together, by then, it was 7:45.

Bob told us that we had to go to Ruby Empire High together so, we left the house with the blue Benz, while mom left in the Chevrolet.

After an approximately, ten minute drive, Bob halted the car beside the fence of a gigantic building. It was so beautiful that I could liken it to a castle. But it looked a lot more modern and colorful than a castle.

"Bye dad. See you in class, Justin." Lisa said, snapping me out of my thoughts. She came out of the car and walked into the school.

"Hope you're ready for this?!" Bob asked, like I was going for a competition.

"Yeah, I am... totally." I said, trying to hide the insincerity from my voice. You know that feeling that you think you can do something but when you come face to face with it, you discover you can't. That was the exact feeling I was having about the whole Ruby Empire thing.

"Okay, lets go." Bob said and came down from the car. I gulped and also came out of the car. We walked through the large gates into the school compound. I felt kind of nervous. But I hoped it wasn't noticeable.

At the sight of me, many people stopped dead in their tracks, staring at me like I was some kind of priceless artwork. Was this the first time they saw a new student getting enrolled in the middle of the term?

And, damn! I hated it when I was given so much attention, so I tried to look away. Bob and I had to walk for like half a minute more before we got to the main building.

He took me to the principal's office. He introduced himself to me as William Cooper. He was a handsome young man. About 35 or so. He had chestnut brown eyes and brown hair. He was jolly and funny and I seemed to like him. He asked me a lot of questions about myself and I answered them effortlessly.

When he was satisfied, he left Bob in his office and went with me to a class he said was mine. When we entered the class, the students greeted him. I was surprised that the class was as organized as it was.

I saw Lisa at a corner, smiling at me. The principal introduced me to the class by name and age and directed me to the third row then he told everyone to be nice to me and left. The teacher told the girl sitting in front of me to familiarize me with the school during break time and the lessons continued.

He taught math, the next teacher, Physics, then English, then History. I was starting to wonder when the lessons were going to be over when the electric bell rang, this time, longer than before so I hinted that it was break time. The History teacher then left the class.

Surprisingly, many of the students gathered around me and were asking me questions, so many questions, I wasn't even able to answer one.

Suddenly, a hand pulled me out of the crowd. I thought it was going to be Lisa but it wasn't. It was the red-haired girl the math teacher told to take me around the school premises.

"Damn, those guys are annoying." She muttered to herself, still holding my hand. She had the most perfect green eyes I'd ever seen and the red hair just made her look a lot better. She left my hand.

"Hey, sorry for what happened back there." She paused. "I'm Anastasia Coyde. Nice to meet you." She said and smiled. A very beautiful smile.

'Boom!' my mind went. Blown by her beauty and the fact that she was John Coyde's daughter. And Lisa was totally right in her description, red hair, pink lips... and those green eyes... I could recognize them anywhere. They were exactly like her dad's own. The asshole that killed my parents. Immediately, those bad thoughts came in again.

She took me around the whole, gigantic school. Past the cafeteria, to the sports complex, the fountain, practically everywhere in the school. Everywhere looked so neat and amazing.

"So, tell me about yourself," she said, trying to spark up a conversation.

I barely knew her so I wasn't actually going to tell her nada. "Nothing much..." I answered.

"Why did your parents bring you here?" She asked.

"They just wanted me to have a change of environment." I lied.

"Oh... I heard that you were Lisa's brother." She asked making my heart stop for a second.

"Who told you?" I asked in a somewhat hostile voice

"It was Lisa, is it true?" She asked again

"Yeah, I'm her brother" I answered. She told her friends that I'm her brother?! What else did she tell them? Hope she didn't tell them that my actual parents were murdered.

"So, why didn't you come here a long time ago, along with Lisa?"

My thoughts flashed back to that dreadful moment when I saw my parents' dead body lying down, on the bed. It was so outrageous I felt like strangling her. But on second thoughts, that would be stupid because I don't think people should be punished for their parents' mistakes.

But it was so annoying that she was the one asking such an enraging question, so I just walked away. To prevent myself from doing anything I would regret.

"Justin!" She called out.

'Oh damn that girl!' I thought.

Anastasia's P.O.V

"What's up with him?" Lisa walked up to me and asked me.

"I don't know. I just asked him why he's just coming to Empire now if he actually were your brother."

"Oh, I told you he was my brother. I was lying. "

"I knew it!" I paused " I knew there was something fishy about him because you never told me about him... So, what's the truth?" I asked.

"You'd promise to keep it a secret"

"Yeah, I would." I promised.

"He's my cousin. And he moved here because... his parents are dead!" She said and my whole mood changed.

"Fuck it! Are you serious" I asked. I felt my heart beat very rapidly. I felt so sorry for him.

"No kidding. I was also surprised when he told me." She said sincerely.

"I feel so sorry for him. I should go apologize."

"No... you can't." She paused. "If you do, he'll know I told you."

"It's so sad. I feel like crying. How did they die?" I asked curiously. It was so sad. I hoped he was not finding it difficult to cope with the loss.

"How do you expect me to know?" She asked.

"Ok." I replied as soon as the bell rang. I had lessons, Chemistry lessons and Miss. Picklehart detested latecomers so I had to rush.

Justin's P.O.V

School was over and I didn't know where Lisa was. I didn't even know if Bob was going to come pick us or we were to walk home.

I hope we weren't going to trek because I feel trekking that distance is so much work. I wanted to buy a car, but I don't think Bob would let me. Plus, he has a fleet of cars so what's the need of me buying one for myself?

I didn't know where I was going to wait so I texted her, 'Where are you? I'm waiting. Is your dad coming to pick us?'

In minutes, she replied, 'No, he's not. I'm having cheerleading practice in the basketball court. Sorry for not telling you earlier. You can come watch if you want.'

I didn't know where to wait so I had no other choice but go to the basketball court. At least I knew where it was since Anastasia showed me earlier.

I was the only guy in that basketball court. I was sitting on the sub bench and just watching the cheerleaders do their stuff. I was feeling pretty awkward. Okay, very awkward!

I saw Anastasia coming from a distance towards me. She looked nice and hot in her cheerleading jersey. I normally felt nervous when I was about to talk to a really pretty girl and that's how exactly I was feeling.

She sat on the bench, right beside me. "Hey," she said.

"Hi" I replied plainly.

"I'm sorry for earlier on." She apologized.

"Why? I wasn't upset." I feigned, but it was true, I wasn't angry. I just didn't want to do anything stupid.

"But you walked out on me." She said in the cutest voice ever.

"I just didn't feel like talking anymore. Plus I had to eat." I said. The practice was over and Lisa walked up to me.

"Lets go home." She said to me.

"Okay" Then I said to Anastasia, "Bye, see you tomorrow." Some other cheerleaders walked towards us.

"Is he your brother?" One with blonde hair asked Lisa.

"He's so cute!" One wearing a gold necklace, commented.

Another stretched her hand forward for a handshake. "Hey, I'm Emily." I only took it because I didn't want to behave rudely. And I swear, I hated it when I was fussed over!

"Lets go!" Lisa said and pulled me out of the crowd. I was indebted to her for life for that. I was so happy that she saved me from those flirty girls.
