Chapter 2 - Heart-less

Step by step I walked forward. Day in and day out searching alone in this infinite forest. I have yet to discover what it is I search for. When did this endless march begin? What in the world am I meant to do?

Day by day I watched the trees pass by wondering alone in a stupor confused. Until one day, I came across something new. A letter rest in the foliage upon it a name I knew all to well. It was a letter I wrote. I just can't remember to who.

After picking up the letter I kept walking, step by step I marched on in a infinite search for something I had once lost. From time to time I'd find more letters. Scattered throughout the woods. I would pour my heart out to another in each. However I cannot for the life of me remember who it was I wrote to. Who it was I loved.

Everyday I marched on searching alone until one day I heard a pained yelp. Instinctively I ran to see what was in pain. See a dog alone in the woods limping along I cautiously approached. When we were feet apart the dog lazily looked up at me. Then fell over.

The dog was covered in countless cuts attached to it's collar yet another letter. However it wasn't written by me. It seemed to be another pouring out there heart in a similar fashion.

I kept marching on as I stare at the new letter confused. I had never seen a letter like this in the woods. I wonder who wrote it. However there is no one to ask. The dog had already passed and all else is endless forest.

Without even knowing I began to move slightly faster as I marched on. Wondering alone with no apparent task eventually I had begun to sprint. Why am I running? What am I running to? Or from?

Eventually I had reached a clearing as the light shined in my eyes I tripped upon a root. Stumbling forward I looked up to see a couple kissing in the wood. Familiar but bazaar the sight I saw seemed to resemble something I had seen but something that never happened. I tried to speak out to ask them. However I couldn't as a felt a great weight upon my throat. Looking down to try to understand I saw a gaping hole slightly to the left on my chest. Confused and shocked I tried to touch it but only pain could be felt.

I look around confused. However when I looked up only the woman remained holding a constantly beating mound of flesh in her right hand as she walked away. Confused lost and unsure i fell over and as my eyes closed upon the mound of letters I had carrier till now I wondered yet again who it was I wrote it for.

Standing up once more after who knows how long I found my chest was uninjured and looked around to find no one. Stepping into the clearing I heard laughter. Walking over I found a woman sitting in a field. She didn't seem to mind my presence as I sat down next to her and watched the lights that twinkled and played with one another in the air with her. Hours passed sitting there until I felt a weight upon my hand and looked down to see another hand placed on top of it. I looked up to the woman but saw no one there. Confused I looked down again to see nothing but myself. Looking around I see the lights all running away.

Silence reigned as I sat there all alone yet again. Unsure if I should get up and walk or stay here and wait. Unsure of what I was even looking for out in those woods. What I had ever even wanted.

Unsure of what to do I eventually decided to stand yet again and walked out of the clearing. Along the path there was no more letters. However it seemed to be way better paved. Walking along I saw many new faces but never one that caught my eye quite the same. However I found so many reasons to smile. So many friendly faces.
