Chapter 1 - Silent Flute

In the silent night a thudding woke the sleeping birds in there nest as a the sound quickly got closer a breeze struck the nest knocking the nest over killing the baby birds and cracking the eggs the mother and father escaping into the night started by the sudden loss.

As mango ran he was completely unaware of the death he caused upon his escape nor did it really matter but it made for a cool beginning. He could barely think as he ran. It had only been moments ago he was happily eating and chatting with his party in the woods when a screech rung out as one of his own friends placed the knife he was eating with firmly into his own wives throat. Confusion and doubt was all that could be seen in her eyes as she fell to the ground. Quickly one of the others jumped up and tried to restrain the man who was already lurching towards another person but as the man that went to stop him neared the attacker he was stabbed in the side by another. Mango had no clue what was going on as he watched it all. The only thought he could muster was to run. That he did fleeing as fast as he feet could take him he bolted towards the nearest town in the hopes that it would contain sane people.

Confused and scared mango kept running along the dirt path towards the town but the moment he got close he saw an unnatural glow rising from the town. Unsure what was happening mango kept rushing forward until he passed the unmanned main gate. The strangeness didn't really catch mangos eye till he saw what lied behind the town walls. Corpses and fire everywhere. Nothing but dead and flaming figures strewn around the town that slowly burnt away before his eyes roaring flames everywhere the colors of orange and red making up all the light in sight as a gentle breeze struck mango's ears. Suddenly he stopped. His face lost all emotion and he wasn't panicking or trembling anymore. His body seemed to be out of his control. As his feet stepped out the city on there own. Quickly understanding that he couldn't do anything at all mango began to panic on the inside desperately struggling to move any of his body parts in the desperate attempt at a protest to the overwhelming forced that claimed his body as someone else. Step by step the blank faced mango walked back towards the forest. Walking not towards where his party was but to a small alcove nearby the town. It was to dark inside to know what was waiting for him inside the cave but a deep primal fear told him that if let himself walk inside there he'd never regain control of his body. Mango's desperate struggle became more desperate step by step until his right foot entered the cave.

Inside the cave was a man sitting calmly with a blank face blowing on a small bamboo read he held in his hand like it was the most important thing in the world. Confusion was the main feeling that mango felt in that moment. Wasn't it supposed to be a demon or a monster inside the cave waiting to take his life? As his body got closer to the man just a small distance away his hand rose up and took the flute from the other man who immediately fell over motionless. Without caring whatever the force controlling his body was forced the reed into mango's mouth and he began to blow, as he did so he began to walk outside the cave.

As mango walked his feet struck a seemingly silent earth as he walked warmth was all he felt as the animals of the forest flew into a blind rage with faces as serine as a gentle pound in the moonlight. Eyes completely devoid of any emotion mango's body kept walking unable to protest in anyway mango sat in confusion and desperation trying his best to release himself from this thing that has taking hold of him but no matter how hard he struggled nothing could stop the warmth that took hold of him with each step walking further towards the next most crowded place his body watched as everything with a sentient thought began to kill without mercy all they passed. A single bloody bird the other creature that seemed to follow along mango's bodies trail.

As he neared the city dawn came a gentle breeze was felt by the guards who promptly began to slaughter one by one those who were trying to get into the city when one of the guards fell to a merchants hired mercenary a different mercenary stabbed that one in the back. Unfazed by the chaos the warmth kept spreading taking hold in one after another as more and more people died or took arms against all around them the only creature seemingly unchanged and unfazed bearing a flute as it calmly walked through the gate.

Horrified and baffled by the strange warmness's action mango could help but try to close his eyes or focus on something else tuning out the scene of mothers beating there children to death and fathers cutting into there wives throat before slamming an infant onto the ground as if spiking a ball. Death occurred with every passing moment and nothing in the world seemed capable of stopping it. As the last life fell mango's body had reached the opposite side of the city and was marching towards it's next destination. A bloody bird still floating in the sky following along entirely unnoticed by mango.

Day after day passed as mango's body marched on without ever stopping or sleeping he walked by city after city leaving a trail of blood and endless slaughter. All the while blowing into the reed that produced nothing but warmth. As the capital city of the country neared on the horizon a small group of soldiers was seen along the path. Mango was saddened by the faces before him unfazed and numb at the senseless death he expected the same thing as always. Each step leading to the caravan he waited and watched as the guards eyes flashed and lost there light beneath there helms and quickly turned on one another a annoyed voice yelled out as the door to the carriage at the lead opened up and a large man screamed to ask what was happening. Confused and unsure of the situation themselves no one could even muster the thought to answer there employer. As one of the empty eyed suits of armor fell the man who had stepped out of the carriage's angry face turned blank as he immediately started killing his own guards the door to his carriage falling closed.

Nothing was new nothing could stop this endless death that the warmth caused. Nothing ever slowed his pace. Each step another guard fell and another took up a dazed face. Before long the door to the carriage was opened by a guard with a blank face as he catapulted in tackling a woman through the other closed door and slamming his fist down upon the woman's confused and terrified face which immediately gave way to the force as her once breath taking face became nothing more then a puddle upon the ground. Less and less people stood around the carriage as mango's body approached but as he was stepping over a body a strange cry broke out and for a split second his body stopped tripping over the corpse as he lost his grip on the flute a strange shadow appearing in the corner of mangos eye as the flute left his hand entirely. The warmth escaped him finally regaining control of his body as the shadow escaped into the sky flying away. The again closed door to the carriage opened to reveal a scared and confused young girl who looked around for her parents. Nothing but corpses and mango remained. Every thing in her sight sprawled upon the ground the girl rushed to the corpse wearing her mothers cloth... horrified by it's lack of head she began to cry over the now headless body. Nothing but blood and mush remaining were the head once was.

Mango stood up and looked around for any survivors or the strange shadow hoping with all his being not to see that flute ever again.
