Chereads / Wing Of Fire: Pits Of Hell / Chapter 2 - Ch. 2 Moon

Chapter 2 - Ch. 2 Moon

Tsunami led us to a cave with a bunch of other dragons. One of which, looked very puzzled at me. The Sandwing also looked puzzled, but not a me. He was staring at Algae. It felt like everyone was staring at her. Algae coughed and only the Nightwing didn't look away. She seemed focused, very, very, focused. I sat down next to Twilight, who sat between me and Frozen. Thankfully. Algae sat next to Frozen with Swamp on her other side. Palm squeezed her way underneath my wing, laying as close to the floor as she could. I inched my wing out a bit and cuddled it around her. Poor Palm, she was so shy. Tsunami cleared her throat and we all looked in her direction. She was standing in the middle of the room, front and center. The sun shown through the window making her beauty stand out even more. Everyone stated who they were and one thing about them. The Nightwing's name was Moon. And the entire time we spent with Tsunami, she was squinting at me. Was there something on my face? It was distracting me. I was standing and talking to a PRINCESS, and she has to ruin it by STARING AT ME THE WHOLE TIME! When the loud gong banged again, we all left and met up with Clay. He brought us to breakfast, which was great because I hadn't eaten yet. We walked in and sat down at the entrance. Twilight was in front of me and Algae was beside me. I heard a soft shuffle and turned around. "Where are you going? Aren't you hungry?" I asked Algae. Algae turned back around to face me. "I heard some other Seawings talking about an awesome pool in the caves. I'm going to follow them and find it." she replied. Algae turned back around and flew off. Leaving me with a sad expression. "Did she just ditch me?" I whispered to Twilight. Twilight wrapped a wing around me and nodded slowly. I felt my wings droop and I sighed. Palm walked up to me and offered half of a watermelon. Her scales were no longer purple. She was mixed shades of pink and yellow. Twilight nudged me forward and some light purple appeared under Palm's wings. Twilight caught her breath as I grabbed the watermelon. "Thank you." I tried to make my voice sound happy, but I couldn't hide the pain. Palm nodded a whispered, "I saw your friend leave, i'm sorry. Do you wanna eat with me?". I heard Twilight finally release her breath. "I would like that a lot." I whispered back. Palm let a little giggle out and walked away to sit down. We followed and sat with her. It was nice to eat with a friend, but what I really wanted was to go find Algae. I can't believe a some "Pool" beat me. We were friends, better yet, sisters. She could have gone any other time! The anger made a burning heat rise in my throat. My tongue slipped in and out of my mouth faster and faster, sending steam to ceiling. The glow in the back of my throat grew brighter and brighter as I glared at the watermelon in my claws. Palm became different shades of red and purple mixed in together. The steam became constant, not only escaping through my tongue. Twilight smacked the back of my head with her wing and the burning disappeared. I looked up at her and then to Palm. The purple almost vanished as yellow and bits of pink washed over her. It was as if someone threw paint all over her. Palm giggled as the purple went away. Twilight smiled and closed my apparently open jaw.

After breakfast we went in and out of classes. History was Algae's favorite. Most of them bored me, the teachers were who I was interested in. Web, he was like a father to Tsunami. He was one of the dragons who raised her. Imagine, raising a PRINCESS. I kinda have a thing for royalty. But who doesn't? Plus, Tsunami is the most qualified to becoming the queen. Since I grew up in the sea, the royal family has always been MY royal family. Queen Scarlet couldn't put a dent in loyalty to them. I wonder if Tsunami knew about me... Probably not. I was startled out of my thoughts when I heard a couple of dragons talking. They were whispering across the hallway, but even through all the loud talking from passing dragons, I focused in on just them. Two Sandwings were standing against the wall. They were talking about an old dragon that lived in the mountain. Apparently this "Old dragon" was Sunny's father. Weird. They saw me and the bigger one glared at me. The big one walked over a lowered her voice at me. "You got guts eavesdropping. If I were you, I would walk away right this second and never return." The Sandwing huffed in my face and waited for me to "run away". She flicked her head towards the direction I was walking. I shook my head and replied in the same tone, "If I were you, I wouldn't make me angry. You might have the tail of a scorpion, but i've got the flames of the gods. I could melt your face off right now. But i'm not 'cuz I have to play good girl today." I looked down my snout at the Sandwing. I admit, she was smaller than I was, but she talked like she herself, owned me. I didn't like that a single bit. Not. At. All. She snickered a little bit and stood up straight. Even through her best efforts, she couldn't quite become eye level. I looked down my snout again and glared at her. "I'm not threatening you. I'm making you a promise. And I intend to keep my promises." I whispered. A small movement caught my eye as Algae slowly nodded her head. Her eyes focused on the Sandwing. A couple of other dragons around us either leaned in to hear better or scurried off. A wing tip lightly bumped my own and at least three tail touched mine. I spun around in a quick circle, still facing the Sandwing. All dragons in all direction jumped back, even the smaller Sandwing jumped. Algae didn't look fazed. She had now locked eyes with the Sandwing. Algae walked up next to me and looked down her snout as well. The Sandwing glared at each of us, but when she realized she couldn't win, she sunk back into the crowd. I relaxed and Algae's eyes swept over our crowd. I hadn't realized how quiet it was. Dragons started up a small whisper that soon turned into the roar of voices it had once been. As we walked to our cave I told Algae what I heard. She went silent until we reached the cave to find it completely empty. Algae let out a relieved sigh and laid down on a pile of grass. I crawled into a hammock and waited for her answer. Finally she opened her eyes to look at me and sighed. "It could be a rumor. But I heard it too. His name is Stonemover. I know of the path to his cave, its also a way that you can fly through. If you really wanted to go so badly, I guess we could go. But you can't tell anyone." She finally said so soundly I barely heard it. I smiled to myself. A secret. Just between the two of us. Bits of my smile spread onto my face as a turned away to hide. When I had full control again, I rolled back over and nodded. I got up to go fly around a bit, shrug off all the stiffness in my wings when a small movement caught my eye. A black tail, just the tip of it, dashed away. If I had turned any slower or any later I wouldn't of have seen it. I peek out from the corner and heard someone say, "Hey! What are you doing in here!? Go back to your own cave!" And a Nightwing was pushed out. As she made eye contact with me she jumped and bolted out of the hallway. The eye contact was all I needed. The dragon was indeed Moon.
