Chapter 1 - The End Before The Beginning

"Mom?"

"What is it Yasuo?"

"I'm gone! I'll be back before dark!"

"Okay, be safe out there, and please, stop hacking your own brain! It's not good for you!"

"I know, I know. See ya!"

Oh Yasuo ran out the door and threw down a blue ball that turned into a hoverboard in an instant. He hopped on and zoomed down the glossy jet black streets.

Yasuo looked at the smartwatch on his wrist. He tapped a few things and then pressed his temple. A loading bar appeared on the watch's screen.

"I know she told me not to hack myself, but it's so fun! How could I not?!"

A short beep sounded, and Yasuo jolted. His head fell, as if shutting down, and then he woke back up.

"I'm back in!" Yasuo sped down the streets, weaving between hovercars and taking sharp dangerous turns. He laughed as he risked his life.

It was the year 2840. After the conclusion of World War III that happened centuries ago, the world's nations finally decided that it was time to stop. Every government on Earth dissolved, and all of the countries allied together under one group. The results were painstakingly slow at first, but it didn't take long for science and technology to take off to unbelievable new heights. Now every human was biotechnologically modified to some extent using tiny microscopic computers.

Yasuo was born with a rare brain defect that caused him many hardships with learning, speech, and common sense, so the doctors performed surgery to have a microscopic computer chip implanted in his brain, allowing him to think normally. At the age of thirteen Yasuo learned how to hack the computer chip to forcefully make him a superhuman thinker. He had access to limitless information as vast as the internet inside of his head. His mother always scolded him to stop, but Yasuo didn't care. He hated being normal. He even re-wired his hoverboard to be faster than everyone else's. He had to be the best at whatever he did.

Yasuo naturally took everything in his life for granted, but it wasn't his fault— everyone did. Energy was free in this new age, and so was water. Even the very idea of taxes became an archaic concept. It was all thanks to the Great Fusion Power System. Everyone on the planet got their energy from the same sources— super fusion reactors. The Great Fusion Power System was a network of ginormous super fusion reactors set all around the world. Each one was connected to another. They all worked together to power the planet and bring a good life to everyone and anyone, no matter their race, background, or class.

However, nothing lasts forever.

As Yasuo sped down the street, he heard a boom.

This wasn't your average loud noise. We're talking about the loudest sound ever recorded in Earth's history.

Yasuo went deaf immediately. He saw a bright light in the sky, followed by a great wave of fire, taller than any building and wider than any lake. The shockwave hit first. The entire landmass of Neo-Eurasia was wiped clean in seconds.

This phenomena was a worldwide event. Every continent on the planet was destroyed to the ground along with the people living on them.

The Great Fusion Power System malfunctioned. The cause will never be known.

Yasuo woke up thinking that it was hot, too hot. The temperature outside was well above 90 degrees Celsius. He was burning.

Yasuo was sprawled out on the rocky shore of what was left of Neo-Japan. His lower body was crushed by spare concrete debris.

"I... can't… breathe..."

Yasuo didn't even question what had just occurred… he couldn't. He knew he was dying.

The sound of Yasuo's brain chip malfunctioning could be heard. It sounded like television static, slowing cooking his brain. If the heat or blood loss wouldn't kill him, this definitely would.

"Am I gonna… die…? Am I… done…? But I've barely done anything... I wanted to... be something… more."

Yasuo slowly started to close his eyes, as his soul was ready to give up on its broken vessel. Then a bright white light kept him from entering the darkness.

Yasuo strained to keep his eyes open. A feminine figure descended from the sky.

"A woman? So beautiful..."

The woman was pure white all over, even her eyes had no irises or pupils. She wore a grand white gown that ebbed and flowed like a lazy river.

"Oh Yasuo… you poor soul."

Yasuo could hear the woman speaking to him from inside his head. Her lips weren't moving, but she had the most beautiful voice he'd ever witnessed.

"I am the Great Heavenly Spirit of Life. Your wicked fate has been sealed for you to die on this forsaken planet. But rejoice, for you, the final creature to remain alive in all of this planet's history, shall be granted a new life. The heavens have chosen you to become a god."

"God?" Yasuo thought. "What an old concept…"

The Great Heavenly Spirit spoke to him again. "Oh Yasuo, I will temporarily serve as your guide on your spiritual journey to your new life. I will give you a body that will serve as a more-than-suitable vessel for your new status. As you take your final breath, think about the type of supreme ruler you aspire to be."

Yasuo's consciousness faded. His eyesight failed him as the darkness took over his vision.

"If I ever become a god, I'll be the greatest and most powerful one there is... no doubt about it."

Yasuo finally closed his eyes as he took his last breath.
