The Murakami Family was the most powerful family in Japan at the time. The head of the family, Murakami Wushi, rose to power after becoming familiar with the spirit realm. His newfound powers granted him supernatural abilities in a time where espers were extremely rare. He used his power to create connections and networks with people that put him at the apex of all the wealthy families in the nation.
Murakami Wushi was the eldest sibling of thirteen. He had eight brothers and four sisters. When he rose to power, everyone wanted a piece of the Murakami Family. So Wushi would marry off his brothers and sisters to other trustworthy families, adding them on to become a part of the Murakamis.
In one of these marriages, Wushi did not approve of the groom his sister would marry into. Therefor he told her not to adopt the Murakami name. She insisted that he was a good man and that she still wished to have the family's blessings, so Wushi forced her to adopt the name Kamimura and become a part of a brand new sister family.
Wushi had one son, who would be Murakami Jikai.
Wushi didn't expect for Jikai to be such a prodigy at a young age. But since he was an infant, Jikai was able to see and interact with spirits, and he became one with the spirit realm very quickly.
Starting at age six, Wushi made preparations for Jikai to train with only the finest martial arts masters from across Japan. He wanted Jikai to have only the best treatment, as he would one day become the next head of the Murakami Family.
Jikai went through rigorous training every single day against even the greatest masters, and by the time he was thirteen, there was no master left for him to fight— all of them quit because he was much too strong for them to handle.
Jikai had shown an ability to adapt to any martial art form almost immediately. He grasped the concept of Zen early, making him far stronger than any human. The news of the Murakami Family's genius son reached across the country.
Once Wushi realized that his son was indeed special, he gave up on finding a teacher for him. But Jikai was far from humble. He'd always throw his power in other's faces, making sure they knew who was stronger. He'd even disrespect his own father often, because even he was no match for his own son.
One day, a mysterious man showed up at the Murakami Family's doorstep. He told Wushi that he would be able to handle his son. This man was Master Yu.
Even the cocky Jikai was no match for the hard and ruthless Yu. Every single day he'd beat Jikai to a pulp and work him half to death.
At age fourteen Jikai had learned how to astral project. He could willingly leave his body and enter the spirit world. That's when he met Tianlong, the Celestial Dragon. The dragon took an interest in the boy and agreed to partner with him.
Jikai made the bond with Tianlong and put his contract into a brown wooden necklace. A spirit grand as he needed artifacts to keep him at bay. From that point on, Jikai would wear the necklace everywhere he went, and never parted with it.
Six months later Jikai met Kidomaru inside of the spirit realm. Kidomaru was a demon, a spirit with power above that of a Shinigami. His ferocity made him known as a Yokai King, one of the top spirits in Japan.
Kidomaru's brashness and cockiness led him to make a bet with Jikai. If he lost, he'd make a contract with him. If he won, he'd take Jikai's body for himself.
Jikai, having absolute confidence in himself, accepted Kidomaru's challenge and fought the demon one-on-one.
Even though he was human, and not a full-fledged spirit, Jikai defeated Kidomaru in an intense battle, and conquered one of the Yokai Kings all on his own.
When Jikai was fifteen, Master Yu finished mentoring him and left the Murakami Family.
Jikai continued on training himself in Zen for the next two years.
At age seventeen, Jikai left Japan in search of adventure. On his travels, he conquered four of the twelve Yokai Kings, and over one hundred other spirits.
It was known that Jikai had the strongest Zen in existence, and that he was a conqueror of the Spirit Realm.
In the next ten years, Jikai went to the middle east during the incident concerning the Great Spirit Orb, and he came back to Japan with the Heavenly Flame.
The Heavenly Flame is the purest form of Divination possible, conjuring flames hot enough to even burn the sun's core to nothingness, warp the space-time continuum, and destroy even the strongest spirits.
When Jikai returned to Tokyo at age 27, he took his place as the head of the Murakami Family and helped the family become even more prominent than they already were. There was no man alive who could compete with Murakami Jikai, up until his death thirteen years ago.
