Chapter 2 - [2] Selfishness is a Disaster

"Who wants to tell a story first?" June asked the two women.

"I'll tell you first." Replied the old woman.

"All right, then let's get started." June said with a smile.

One day in a country located in the northern hemisphere. A young woman and her daughter are forced to live below the poverty line since the head of their family leaves the two of them to remarry another woman. The mother who is now a single mother for her daughter is forced to work very hard to support herself and her daughter.

In this cruel world, she must be able to find a lot of work to survive. With her limited abilities and skills, she was forced to work in a small bar on the outskirts of the city. The salary she got was not that big, but she could get more bonuses from every customer who came to the bar.

Their lives are slowly starting to improve and they are no longer hungry. They were also able to live in a more decent and warmer place now, even though it was not a place worthy to be called a home. But for the two of them. This small place was their refuge from the cruelty of the outside world.

At first everything was going well, until seven years later the young woman began to feel tired from all her work. All the mistreatment and harsh words she received in that place made her want to stop and run away from that bad place but she didn't know where to run because she and her daughter had nowhere else to live.

Until one day there was a good man who came into the woman's life. They get acquainted and then fall in love with each other. The man was willing to support himself and his daughter sincerely. They also agreed to get married and the woman finally quit her job. They both end up living comfortably without having to work hard to stay alive. But is this a happy ending for all of them? Of course not.

When the daughter grows up and begins to question where her real father is. Her mother also tried to explain to her daughter that her real father had died. But her daughter did not believe what her mother said because she already knew that in fact her parents divorced because of their selfishness.

Day by day, her daughter became more and more out of control. Sometimes the mother catches her child talking to herself in the room and several times a year the mother gets a summons from the school because of the problems her child is doing. They often fight because their children are increasingly difficult to control or just be given advice.

Her daughter liked to come home at night more and bring her boyfriend home to stay the night. Their relationship got worse with each passing day and the child's behavior got more out of control. Her daughter often uttered threatening words to his mother. Either in person or via message. Until one night her daughter decided to leave the house to live with her boyfriend.

At that time that young woman's heart was completely broken because her only daughter chose to leave her. Her husband tried to calm the woman and said that their daughter would return home one day. At that time these words became the most potent words of comfort before the tragic incident occurred.

"I just remember up to that point." Said the old woman as she tried to recall her past memories.

"What a very dramatic and moving story." June said with the fake sad expression she showed.

"I miss my daughter." Said the old woman sadly.

"You'll see her later." June said with a smile.

"I hope so." Replied the old woman.

"Then what about this young lady. Are you ready to tell your story to us?"

"I think I'm ready." The young woman replied while exhaling roughly.

"Good, then let's hear the story." June said with a smile.

"This story started when I was a kid." Said the young woman while remembering her childhood memories.

At that time she was playing in her room quietly. As usual every night she would play for five minutes before she went to sleep but somehow tonight she couldn't sleep at all. The noise and screams that occurred outside her room made her unable to close her eyes. It has been an hour since her parents fought in the living room.

The sound of broken plates and glasses as well as the sound of his mother's screaming continued into her bedroom. The little girl closed her ears very tightly while hiding herself under the bed. The voices started to frighten her and feel like to be haunted wherever she goes.

One day there was a sudden silence in her house and at that moment she realized that his father was no longer in this house. The next morning, they were forced to leave this house and all its furniture and move to another city away from her father. At that time she didn't know what was going on between her parents but she realized one thing that his father had left them both for someone else.

Her heart at that time was very broken and her hatred towards men grew out of control. He becomes a very sensitive person and gets angry easily for trivial matters. Her mental health deteriorated and worsened when her mother remarried without her consent even though from the beginning she had told her mother not to trust a man if she didn't want to experience the same thing a second time.

But her mother never listened to her at all. Her mother prefers to live comfortably without the burden rather than thinking about the feelings of her daughter who will definitely be hurt because of her mother's marriage. Since her mother got married, she has increasingly opposed her mother's words and rejected all her mother's requests harshly. She was already disillusioned by the decision her mother had made and chose to live on her own terms.

Her father who prefers other women and her mother who always wants to live comfortably but does not want to do her duties as a wife. Her daughter was very angry with her mother for choosing to remarry without thinking about her feelings, which were still hurt because of the divorce. She doesn't need a comfortable life like this because all she needs is complete love from her parents.

Her step father is a kind and loving person, but the love he gave to her could not cover up her longing for her biological father. Her mother tried to explain what happened between them in the past but her daughter didn't want to hear any explanation from her mother.

She likes to travel to many places late into the night and sometimes she doesn't come home at all for two days. She still remembers all the treatment she used to be to her mother and if she thinks about it now. She had no regrets at all for treating her mother so badly.

"I just remember that part." Said the young woman.

"Wow, it turns out that you have the same case but from a different perspective." June said with a smile.

"But the two of us didn't know each other." Replied the young woman.

"That's right, we've never met before." Said the old woman who sat next to him.

"I know. Just a reminder of the reason you are here because you are in a similar case." June said with a crooked smile.

The two women were silent and chose to return to drinking their tea quietly. June only watched the two women with a sharp and mysterious gaze. The smile on his lips indicated that there was going to be something really interesting in the near future. Something that will make everyone feel hopeless and crushed in a situation that requires them to choose an option.

"Do you remember what your daughter's name is?" June asked.

"No, unfortunately I don't remember." The old woman replied sadly.

The candle that was between the three of them had melted in half and it was a sign that the two humans didn't have much time left until the candle was completely burned. June returned to pouring hot tea into their cups until the water in the golden teapot ran out. This is the last water they can drink before they enter the next stage.

"Do you miss your mother?"

"Yes, a little. I miss her scolding." The young woman replied with a light laugh.

"You must really love your mother." Said the old woman with a smile.

"Hmm, not really. Our relationship was just filled with fighting so I don't really remember the last time I felt affection for my mother." The young woman replied.

"Your mother must have no intention of fighting with you. As a mother who also has a daughter, I really understand the feelings of your mother who is constantly trying to make her child get a more decent life." Said the woman with a sad look.

The two of them returned to drinking their tea until it ran out and as the water entered their bodies, one by one the lost memories returned intact in their brains. June, who knew the changes that had occurred to the two humans, could only smile. Her two eyes which were originally pitch black turned into a fiery golden color.

"Well, the real show will start now."
