When I walked into the classroom, everyone was busy preparing for today's tests. I sat in my chair and pulled my notes out of my backpack, then my phone and earbuds, and I listened to music; it's easier to review while listening to music.
"So you were the number one student at your previous school?"
"Yes, on a regular basis."
"Wow, Seri, aside from that lovely clever cape you also smart, how do you do it?"
"Well, I'm grateful for that."
"I'm hoping you'll come in first this year so that one of them loses their scholarship... then she'll be done with this school."
They all laughed, and I knew who they were talking about, so I simply ignored them and if I hadn't heard anything. But she is correct; if I am not ranked 1, I risk losing my scholarship, so I must maintain that position.
Everyone became silent when the door unexpectedly opened and it was our homeroom teacher.
