Barruni was slightly stunned at what she saw. Her master passed a tablet over with something costing... wait how many zeroes was that? It was over a million she could say that. more money than she ever hoped she could get. how could the young man be walking around with that much money in his pocket? "R-refreshments?" She asked awkwardly. knowing that she had stepped into something fairly important with such little tact.
To everyone else, Barruni definitely derailed the conversation. Adam was looking at her as he saw the unique drinking apparatus in Barruni's hands and knew it was for the woman. "Well Ma'am, how about you look over my draft choice while you have some refreshments?" Adam tried to soothe the tense situation. He wasn't sure about the precise etiquette of slaves. and he hoped he hadn't offended the woman by Barruni's actions.
The tentacled alien, for her part, Took the drink with what was translated as a happy expression, looking over the suggestion before she stopped all movement. The young man was playing with fire. placing a company in his inexperienced hands, he could lose a lot of money if he failed.
"I would recommend that you not chose this investment Recruit Blake. While the rewards may be cascading due to the projected minerals found in the mines, there are so many risk factors that you would be incurring a significant loss." She stated firmly, passing the tablet back to the young human only after returning to the investment screen.
Adam nodded at that as he thought through why he wanted the company. mining, especially blind mining was risky. but with all of the potential rewards that mining could give. he could get a headstart into being rich enough to survive most petty interference. which was something he would need to avoid the pitfalls of being too successful, which he was planning to do.
"I know that Ma'am. what would be the average return from this investment?" Adam could only ask. he knew he could do a lot with a company. influence alternate areas. he would have proper capital to trade, he could do a lot with the resources he gained that money couldn't compare to.
"I'd say one of the better scenarios would be a net worth loss of 10 billion. If you mismanage the company as a newbie would be likely to do, that would incur even further losses. choosing an investment like this would be far too risky for an officer of the fleet. I have to wholly refuse allowing you to undertake this venture. your economic failure will look badly upon the fleet. "
"Wait you would refuse? do you have the right to do that?" Adam asked incredulously. he finally got money he wanted to use, why would he be unable to use it?
"The fleet has the right to veto any wasteful spending through the corporate account as stated in the fine print." The woman stated. already harkening back to the contract that Adam signed, forgetting all about the aspect where his money would be restricted to beneficial investments. "ow please go through and chose a less destructive investment."
Adam could only grumble at that. sifting through the choices again. Despite being told he wasn't allowed, his mind wouldn't stop going over what he could do with the resources. depending on the metals he could create quality materials. sell them for favors and cash. he could have others build him machines or structures that would aid in his goals for multiple projects. Mines were run by slaves as everyone knew. he could gain some influence and goodwill by hiring the new officer's slaves for a higher than average price. cutting into his profits but giving him leeway to push his influence.
He continued to stare at the investments as they all just gave him money or seemed like scams. most of them seem like inefficient investments for his long term goals. "How much would the fleet pay for materials at lower than market price?" Adam asked the woman, bringing her ire to him as she knew he couldn't stop thinking about that dumb investment.
"We will not allow you to choose a company with such a loss Recruit! if you continue trying to push me then I will not hesitate to authorize disciplinary action." Her retort stopped Adam in his tracks, the fear of that giant spider-centipede thing flashing in his mind as he wondered what sort of punishment the treasurer would request if she was pissed off.
"No, hear me out." Adam stated nervously. "most of the issues with the investment is the high likelihood of abundant materials in this section of the galaxy right?" Adam tried to convince her of his thought process before she stopped listening.
"Yes. most buildings do not need the materials on this list. I know the allure of being a CEO is blinding to someone as poor as you Recruit, but the world of the elite is as bloodthirsty as the world of the poor."
"That's the thing. most of these resources are used for fleet maintenance. I can turn my loss into the fleet's gain. if my investment fails to pay off. I give the fleet cheap resources. if my investment succeeds, then I'll be making a profit that both the fleet and myself can use." Adam said quickly, causing the tentacled woman to bundle herself up in thought... well bundled up more than normal.
"That would be an interesting decision. but for the long term profit that would mean little to us. how can you guarantee that it will be worth taking?" She bit back, the young man was smart, if putting his intelligence in foolish places.
"We both know that if I don't do something to attract the affection of the Vanid in charge that I'll be kicked out when the fleet changes hands. if my investment is projected low, you can just sell it off to some other investor and use the investment money on fleet interests. I need high rewards to stand a chance against the Vanid. so if you could give me that chance, I'd be grateful."
The alien could only grumble as she believed the human's words. he was pushing things in almost every aspect here. the way he trained his small group of soldiers, how he treated his work as an officer, always high risk, high reward activities. it's like his brain thought in ways that would be low risk if it wasn't run by anyone else. Let alone the fact that she had been told by the damn CEO to give the young man more freedom than normal. he had given her good enough reasons to allow him to undertake his desired course of action, she just had to accept what he wanted and watch him roll the dice again. "Fine, select the investment. I will be coming to collect my due when it fails though." The woman stated firmly and angrily, exiting the room without any grace this time.
