Max was scouting with Shira, his new pale weapon. Shira was ghostly almost in her paleness, more than albino it seemed. "Do you sense anything?" he asked her.
Shira looked around and stuck her nose in the air. "Mm, maybe. It's faint, but it's that way," she said, pointing. She was fluid in her movements and seamed ethereal.
Max smiled. "Good, let's go this way." He was anxious. It had been a while since he'd had a good hunt. Max saw a park in the distance. Hmm... Awfully strange place. Maybe this vampire liked to prey on kids.
Megura passed up behind him quickly in a light effort to jog to catch up. "If you never knew," She started, catching up. "About me, would you treat me different?" she asked, debating on whether he was into her for her species, not really for her. God, she hoped he didn't want to be one. That just-creeped her out.
"I think so," he told her. "I liked you before I found out. I don't think my feelings have changed, really. I'm glad I know though." He saw the empty park ahead. It was late, of course no one would be there. He wouldn't mind the privacy, though.
She chewed her lip instead of asking the next question and took it for what it was. At least he liked her... But also... Well, at least it was because he liked her before that. The whole vampirism just made it complicated. That and it made her head hurt trying to process where she was going next with the idea. "Honestly," she breathed, walking over to the middle of the field to sit down. "I swore that just the stuff you ask me... Sometimes it makes my head spin just how much... I dunno." She grumbled, flopping back on the grass. "Shouji," she breathed, closing her eyes, taking in the scent of the surroundings. Something smelled off, and she was up then in a moment, looking around. "Shouji," she buckled down, her mind fixed. "I think we should leave. Something doesn't smell right." She started getting up. She could've sworn a whiff of something foul hit her nose from downwind, and it had a threateningly familiar presence to it.
A lady walking her dog came back down the road from the opposite direction. The dog sniffed, barking a few times before they continued on as a few kids's way down the way the skatepark were laughing.
Megura kind of slumped back, thinking she was paranoid. "Uh, let's save this conversation for later. Is there anywhere else?" she asked, still feeling paranoid. What the hell was going on with her tonight? Woke up feeling like shit. Moody. Now she was paranoid. Maybe it was too strange not to be home.
Shouji listened to her. "I just want to know more about you, I don't mean to upset you," he said again. He looked around. "Um... Well, I'm not sure, really. They only other place I really hung out is in shambles right now." He frowned.
Shira sniffed the air again once they got closer to the park. "That place..." she said.
"The park?" Max nodded and quickened his pace. He didn't want to miss this. He noticed an out-of-place couple. A beautiful redhead and a punk kid. Hmm... "Hey!" he called to them.
"I know you don't," she groaned, looking away when someone yelled. She jerked upward, grabbing him. "Come on," she told him. "Let's go." Grabbing his wrist quickly as she pulled him with her to walk away.
Shouji looked at the guy, but asked no questions and started walking faster. "Are we needing to get away from him, because we'll need to pick up the pace," he suggested.
"Shira run," he ordered.
Shira crouched before setting off after the two.
She could hear running and suddenly she was nodding in agreement with him, "Yeah. Running works better." She started picking up the pace. "Hurry!" she rasped, sucking in a deep breath.
Shouji stepped it up and started running. He wasn't as fast as Megura, and it made his ribs hurt as his breathing sped up. He looked back. They weren't moving fast enough. This chick was insanely fast! He thought he saw claws and fangs as she attacked.
Max was quick behind them and pulled his sword out then. He saw the kid's eyes and assumed he was also a vampire. He let Shira go for the girl as he grabbed the boy. He stopped him and jammed his sword right through him. Max made it a point to miss the boy's spine.
Shouji jerked to a stop as the man grabbed his shoulder. He didn't expect the breathtaking pain that took him. He looked down to see a point of a sword through his side just under his ribs.
Shira lunged for Megura, expecting she'd stop to see about her friend.
"Shouji!" Megura screamed, feeling him lagging. When she felt him stumble, she lost her grip. Winded, she turned around to see Shira taking a running leap and in the moment... She reacted. When Shira lunged, she ducked beneath her, tumbling to the ground before getting up to catch Shouji, maneuvering to grab him and pull him back from Max, not realizing the blood was in the air till she'd already grabbed him and pulled him into her arms. She stumbled, he was obviously larger than her as she tried to regain her balance. "You fucker! Are you insane?" she gasped, covering his wound as the smell hit her in waves. Dropping back, she felt blood seep against her shirt. Where the hell did they even come from? She looked back up at Max. The guy looked insane, and her heart sank. He was no one new to murder. His eyes told it all. "Shouji, don't you fucking die!" she started, trying to apply as much pressure against his wound with her hand as possible. She needed to get him out of here. NOW!
Shouji winced as she pulled him to her. He felt the man pull the sword back. Shouji gasped. Fuck this hurt. He was bleeding profusely now that the sword was out.
Shira hit the ground and rolled before turning back towards them. "Max, he's human!" she gasped.
Max swung the blood from his sword before holding it to Megura's face. "But she's not," he said coldly.
"Meg-get out..." He tried to tell her to leave, but he didn't know how she'd get away at this point.
"Oh, my god! That guy just stabbed-" A few people screamed and started running away.
Max growled. They needed to leave before they were found. He made a swipe for Megura's face. He couldn't let her go now, though.
Shira didn't expect it to go like this. She hid her claws quickly from mundane eyes. "Max!" she gasped as people noticed them.
Megura let loose an ear-piercing scream, hefting his weight on her back to get him to move with her. She tried to move Shouji out of the way first, feeling the blade skim her back at a large clump of hair. But she flung them both to the ground out of the way and gasped, looking up at him. She heaved, trying to pull him with her, shaking. "Shouji! Please!" she gasped. "Don't! Stop it!" she screamed at Max. "HELP!" It was the only thing she could do. If she retaliated in front of all these people, right here, right now. She trembled. She wasn't able to muster up the strength to fight back. It scared her, too concerned for Shouji. She couldn't just leave him. "Fucking leave us alone! Murderer! Murderer!" she screamed, trying to get someone to speak up, someone to turn, to help.
Shouji's legs gave and he could no longer support himself. "Mm," he grunted, falling to the ground. He grabbed his side, feeling blood seep out onto his palm. "Fuck."
"Max lets go. People are-"
"Shut up!" he yelled at both of them. He looked back to see people calling for the cops. "Shit. Watch your back. We are legion," he growled at her before running off.
Shira looked at Shouji. She didn't want to human to die. She hurried off after Max.
Shouji held his breath to deal with the pain. His vision was getting blurry.
She winced, watching them finally leave, and turned her head down to look him over. God, he was a mess. "I'm so sorry!" she gasped. "Don't die. Please. Just wait. I'll get help," she breathed.
Shouji winced. "It's not- It's not your fault," he gasped out. He didn't want her to leave like last time and never want to talk to him again. His head rolled back. "Ng-" He winced in pain.
She looked around quickly and stood up. She didn't want to leave his side but... She patted him down for a phone. Maybe she could call Shu.... Or Daichi.... I mean, they'd be pissed. Unless Asami could pick up. Damn it! If he had a phone, where the fuck would it be?! She panicked.
It was in his back, pocked. Luckily on the side that wasn't being bled all over. It was an old flip phone. He winced. Sora was going to be so pissed if he ended up in the hospital again. "Meg-" He started fading out then.
Megura found it and struggled to get her finger in his pocket to pull it out, but she flipped it open and dialed for Asami... When the phone rung once, then twice, she panicked till it picked up.
"You've-"
"Asami! ASAMI! Please! PLEASE! Come get me now! Bring a doctor.... Medic..... Someone! I'm at the park!" she screamed.
"Woah. Excuse me, this isn't 91-"
"IT"S MEGURA!" she screamed. "Fucking listen to me! Send someone quick, please!"
"Alright," she sighed, and she started typing on her end, the keyboard furiously clicking before she sat back in her chair. "Someone should be there in a few minutes. Near to where you're at."
Megura closed the phone and looked down at Shouji, not letting go of him as she kept applying pressure to slow the bleeding.... If anything at all. "Sh! I've got it. I've... I've got someone coming!" She rasped.
"911 emergency at the park," Gretchen called over the cubicles.
Asami slunk in her seat. Damn it.... She was getting into trouble again. If it was that boy.... Maybe Daichi had a point. She rubbed her eyes, getting up. "Yeah, I'm on it." She told her, shoving on her badge.
Shouji tried to keep his eyes open, but everything was so blurry. He grabbed her hand. "I'm not going to die," he breathed.
She about snapped hearing him try to soothe her was probably the worst thing coming from him right now. He looked, smelled, and his heart sounded like..... She closed her eyes, the tears just not stopping! "Fucking Shouji, quit lying to me!" she yelled right as a car pulled up. She gasped, her head snapping upwards as she heard a yell. Someone running over, and another. "Please!" she yelled. "Help me lift him!"
"Oh, my god... What the fuck happened?!" the driver screamed, his eyes wide.
"Shut up! You weren't paid to ask questions. Pick his legs up!" he ordered, grabbing Shouji beneath his arms. Megura hefted his weight on his chest into her arms as they shuffled to the car and pulled him in. It was a Suzuki van, black.... They had the backseat laid down, and she was leaning over him, brushing his hair out of his face as the two jumped in the car and sped off to her home.
"Sh," she told him, the tears practically blinding her vision. "Shh..."
He wasn't trying to lie to her, he just needed to hear it as much if not more than she did. "Gah!" he gasped when they picked him up. There was so much blood.
Thankfully, it was almost a ten-minute ride from home as they scaled up the parking garage and into the building. Someone ran out with a stretcher and an IV. A girl who looked about 24 climbed in next to Megura, a needle in her mouth. She held the rubber band tight and drew out some morphine before giving him an ample dose. "You sure you want this? Asami said you wanted a transfusion."
"I do," she told her, offering her wrist. "Do it now."
She nodded, pulling out a twelve gauge needle before inserting it into her wrist and turning to hook the machine closer. She adjusted it and flicked the switch on the motor and it pumped in and she turned to fix up a blood packet from the cooler and sighed. "I'll have to test for his blood type before I can mix, but for now, we can start here."
"Grab me a hospital bed from the 122 level medical ward's fifth sector," she ordered.
"Carol," she started. "He won't die, will he?"
"No. No, he won't. But from the looks of it, you won't be feeling too well after this. You might want to lay down.
She nodded, snuggling close to him, sniffing. "Don't you fucking leave. I'll never forgive myself," she muttered, grabbing his hand.
He fought for consciousness. He heard them speaking, but couldn't really understand it anymore. "Mm..." he said, hearing Megura. Her voice was the only one he could really understand. He couldn't leave her. She was the only thing he really had going for him anymore.
