"You affect me, Milord. You do. I apologize that I lied. I apologize that I hid the truth from you. Please forgive." Samantha did not avert her gaze from the man who was overwhelmed with happiness. Yet, his face showed no expression whatsoever. He remained impassive and reticent.
"Why should I believe you, Samantha? Which reply of yours should I believe? First, you claim that I don't affect you, and now you are claiming that I do. Tell me where does your honesty lie." Every word of his was a blow to the girl. Samantha's eyes lost their vigor, and seeing her depressed, Alastair was filled with immense guilt. Her despondent expression broke his heart, and every part of his conscience was screaming at him to take his words back. However, he stood still, for he had made his mind to show Samantha what she felt him and what she was for him.
"Tell me, Samantha. Which word of yours should I believe?" Alastair coaxed her gently when he did not receive any reply from her.
