After showing Samantha her room and silently ordering the maid to take good care of her, Alastair retraced his steps towards his parents' room. He had seen the questioning gaze his mother had given him, and he decided to speak to her so that she could look after the girl who had never received any love from her parents, about whom she did not even know.
As always, the royal guard outside the room announced his arrival, and Alastair entered the moment the door opened. He saw his mother sitting in front of the window as she continued to paint the attractive landscape visible from where she was.
"I was waiting for you," Daphne stated as she turned back and faced her son. She dropped the paintbrushes and stood up, and when her son was just a foot away, she beckoned him closer to him.
