His smile caused her to shuffle in a way that almost made her lose balance. There was something about him that she could not quite put her finger on. Of course he seemed menacing and instilled fear into her body, but there was another aura that he gave off. A feeling almost like melancholy.
Rain continued to pour down without any intentions to stop soon. The smell of wet dirt outside was now prominent. Every time she breathed in, the scent filled her nose. Celia still had yet to give the man in front of her a reply. She instead was smelling the air, trying to let go of her anxiety surrounding the situation. What could she possible ask for? There was nothing that she needed. There was also nothing worth enough value to trade her soul for.
His smile faded, becoming impatient. The hand that held her hair closed tightly. This action caused the girls head to forcefully pull back, leaving her to stare at the ceiling. Swiftly, she moved one of her small hands to grab his wrist, while the other held the base of her braid. No matter how hard she pulled his arm, he did not move. Instead, he only pulled harder on her hair.
"If you don't speak up, it looks like you'll be losing some of this hair." His voice sounded tremulous, due to her growing fear.
No one had ever put their hands on Celia before; not her mother, not her father, absolutely no one. The feeling of her hair pulled at the scalp made goosebumps form on her body. It was not very painful, though. The sensation she had never felt before, caused a small groan to escape her lips. Her teeth began to grit a bit due to a now growing anger. Should she scream? Would her father be able to fight off the beast?
"I don't want anything." She continued to struggle wanting him to release his grasp. "I want you to let go."
The man slowly released his grip from her hair and allowed her to return her head to it's original position. He gazed at her; forcing her to look him into his eyes, while he threatened her.
"I'm offering you a trade, and you don't want to speak up? Do you just want to die now? I thought you were smart. Tsk tsk."
Celia bit her bottom lip, afraid to speak.
'Not saying anything got my hair pulled', she thought.
What could she possibly ask for? Perhaps, for her mother to get well would be a good trade off. Knowing her noble mother, she would never want her daughter to die for her. Like a brick, it hit her. She had to find a loophole, so that she would not die in the process of selling her soul. Is a person even a person without a soul? She needed answers.
"So you will give me anything I want? In return I'll give you my soul? You must really do it, if you want me to agree." Celia spoke her mind this time. She needed to know if he was going to hold his end of the deal. He didn't speak, but instead shut his eyes and nodded. His expression was relaxed and he seemed to actually be listening to what she had to say. He took a could of steps backwards to lean his back against the wall. Two strong arms came up and folded over his chest.
Celia felt this man must be playful at heart. His expressions and emotions changed constantly. She was good at reading people just as good as she was at reading books. This man was frisky, and quick paced. It was not hard to see that was impatient. He wanted things to do done his way when he wanted them done.
It did not take long for her to reply.
"I want you to protect me with your life."
His eyes widened. Was this girl serious?
He let out a quiet laugh, putting his hands on his knees to make himself look extra silly. He simply could not believe what she just said. He figured she might ask for power, or money. These were the things most people asked for when they were granted a wish from a . This was no wish though and he was no genie. This was a trade off. He gives her something; she gives him her soul. When dealing ones soul, it does not mean you die or a spirit just comes floating from the lifeless body. It is more complex than that. When a person sells their soul to a demon, they become magically intertwined with each other.
Each person who contacts a demon has their own reasons for wanting to give up their soul. Most are greedy and just want to fulfill their own desires. It can be a tricky situation, if not taken seriously. This one, however, was different.
Celia knew that if he give his life for hers, he would not pull any stunts. It was a lose lose situation and he had walked himself into it.
