Chapter 2 - Begining

It started in the summer, with the blistering heat and too bright sun. Everyone brushed it off, thinking it would all return to normal like usual. It didn't. Instead, it became hotter and brighter, as if to spite us of our optimistic thinking. Everyone turned their coolers and air-conditioning systems to the highest setting but even that proved futile after a few days. Some of us thought to live underground, but even then it felt like we were being baked slowly but surely.

It was hell and the heat just kept getting hotter. That's when people started to die.

They didn't die at the same time. No, they died and fell one by one from where they stood. We panicked then, running and locking ourselves inside our homes but even then it was useless. Humans can't withstand the heat and hunger for long. We fought each other, dog fighting dog in the cruel world we now live in.

Death came quickly through our doors, hearing the cries of pain and tearing of flesh and with it, came the cold.

Freezing, blistering cold. If we thought we had it bad before, it was even worse now. The fourth wave of the previous heat broke down any temperature regulating systems, air-conditioning, and heaters. Which meant we had nothing to warm ourselves with aside from handmade fire, bundles of clothes and human warmth. It was hell frozen over and our meager attempts for warmth didn't last long.

Our bodies slowly but surely broke apart, our minds succumbed to hypothermia and we were frozen in time. I don't know how some of us survived and why the others died. No human being should be able to withstand that kind of treatment. And yet...

Then again, I don't think we can be called humans anymore. Not anymore. Not after surviving two hells on Earth and facing the current one. That is a world I never want to be in ever again.
