Chapter 45 - Section 44: Guerilla Warfare

We arrived at the cursed place where they hung the dead bodies of drones. Aside from the drones, there's a new addition in the lineup. I widened my eyes in horror as I saw that new addition. It's a bloody human, hung up on wooden wood with both his hands bled out. His hands were being nailed on a wooden plank.

Flies were gathering on the corpse like a moth attracted to a lamp, the putrid smell giveaways his time of death. Joel and Tristan gasped at the horrendous sight of the corpse.

"Don't look" I warn them.

However, my warning seems to be pointless by now. Joel already run away, crouched on the concrete street. He vomits in disgust, Tristan soon comes to check Joel's condition. As Joel vomited his insides, Tristan looked at me in awe.

"You're fine with that sight huh? I thought you would vomit as well" Tristan spoke awestruck. "Are you used to this?".

"No, this is the first time I saw this in real life" I shook my head.

However, a glimpse of memories suddenly flashed inside my brain like a lightning bolt. I saw that white-haired young boy once more, along with other foreign pictures I never knew. She could see a pile of corpses, piling up like mountains. This same scenery in front of her triggered those pictures inside her head.

The eerie white-haired boy smiled as he whispered.

"As long as you're with me, you'll be just fine".

I shake my head from those triggered images, like movie clips.

"Are you alright?" Tristan and Joel approached me.

"I'm fine, sorry just a slight headache" I assured them.

Joel's complexion looks rather pale, perhaps because of the vomit earlier? I asked him to make sure of his current condition.

"Joel, are you alright?" I asked the pale Joel.

He nodded, rather obediently.

"Yeah, I'm still good to go".

"Good, stay on your guard" I warned Joel. "This might be a trap to keep us away so that we won't investigate further in".

"You're right, that sounds plausible," Tristan nodded in agreement. "Whoever in this camp must know about our plan to sneak in".

"That sounds too convenient for them," Joel scowled.

"A leak perhaps?" I asked for their opinion.

"Doesn't look like someone leaked anything, maybe they just have someone on watch duty like in our base" Tristan added.

"Well, does that mean we're already spotted?" I asked them, uncertain.

"Could be, but we could try to find another way to get in," Tristan suggested in a calm demeanor. "So make a detour!".

"Detour, yeah" Joel nodded to Tristan's suggestion. "Detour sounds good to me, the enemy won't be able to know".

I looked up at the tall building above us, detour may sound like a good idea. However, we don't know the total number of their members.

"I don't know about you, but I prefer other ways" I sighed.

"Other ways?" Joel looked at me confused.

"Yes, but first of all let's go back a bit to avoid their watchful eyes" I dragged the two men away from the pile of drones. We walked away as far as we could, I looked toward the mini-market right next to us and hid there. The two men follow along with a confused expression.

"Why are we hiding?" Joel asked.

"I got a plan, but we need to go home" I sighed. "We already spent too much time being seen by their watchdogs".

"Alright then, what's your plan?" Tristan raised his brows, interested in my suggestion.

I asked Joel to spread the map on the floor, pointing toward their base.

"I have a hunch that they're keeping their eyes everywhere around that entrance gate, I don't know" I rolled my eyes. "Going to infiltrate there is a little bit risky if there are lots of high buildings around us".

Tristan immediately catches what I'm saying.

"You're saying that they might have spied on us from the high buildings?" he asked.

"I assume so" I nodded. "It's just a speculation of mine though, could be false".

"Nah, what you assumed might be right" Tristan agreed. "Although, I don't know how to escape their watchful eyes".

"Sewer" I added.

"Sewer?" Joel asked me, confused.

I pointed toward the underground sewer system on the map.

"Since we're in a metro city, I expect us to have a sewer system and a spacious one that is" I rubbed my chin. "We can sneak in from underground sewer then infiltrate their base".

"Wow, that sounds awesome" Joel pumped his fist. "It feels like we're in guerilla warfare".

I rolled my eyes toward Joel's commentary.

"Joel, this is not a game" I scowled. "Seriously, it's a life and death situation".

Seeing how upset I am with his playful behavior, he reverted to his old quiet self. I pat his shoulder, apologetic. I shouldn't have said that, I hurt his feelings. However, he needs to know when to joke when to be serious.

"I'm sorry for what I said" I pat his shoulder. "But you need to stop fooling around, I don't want to lose you just because you didn't pay attention".

He looked taken back from my words, he formed a small smile on his delicate expression.

"Okay, I will try to stay alive" he nodded.

"Good" I smiled back at him." To continue from before, we need Kallen to be on our team".

Joel and Tristan exchanged looks of confusion about what I said. However, Tristan grasped my line of thinking.

"Ah, you want us to split into two teams?" he asked.

"Yes, that is my intention" I nodded. "The sewer system underground has multiple entrances to that place, I was thinking that maybe we could enter from different places to check which entrance is the safest to infiltrate".

"Ah, got it," Tristan nodded. "That sounds like a great plan actually, you're pretty good at this".

"No, it's just how things work," I scowled.

"I mean it sounds as if you're used to being on the battlefield" Tristan complimented my plan. "Are you really an ordinary person?".

"I am" I crossed my arm annoyed. "Now, let's get back and tell Vladimir about the plan".

They nodded in unison, we decided to return to the base and tell Vladimir about it. The plan will be executed tomorrow at daybreak. We need to haste before the enemy catches a whiff of our plan.
