Inside the Forest of Calamity, after Sylvain had left Watson and his group, they were continuing their search for Ana and Astra. They had just left the third body that Sylvain had left for them and had no clues. They couldn't even continue with scent since the scent of varying bloods was all over the place.
"Watson I think we won't be finding them. We should head back and try another time."
"Yeah, we definitely lost them. We can't find any trace of them anymore."
"They should also have help from some other demonic beast in this forest. Otherwise they wouldn't have been able to escape after that large spell."
"I'm also very tired. Night is also going to come soon. I don't want to be here in the dark."
"Come on guys we are so close. Just a little more and we should be able to find and kill them. Then I would have merit that would allow me to compete for the throne."
"Watson, no. We lost them and have no clues as to how to find them again. Even if we did, we would probably lose to the demonic beast that is helping them. We should leave now and better prepare ourselves."
"No, we can't. I must kill them or else I won't be able to fight for the throne. It's either they die or I die."
"Fine, have it your way then."
With those words Watson's head flies from his shoulders.
"Diego why'd you kill him. How are we going to explain this? We will definitely be executed or exiled by his mother for this."
"Dave it's fine, we'll be fine. We just don't need to tell anyone that we killed him. The same goes for Donald and Dawn. We are the only ones that know what happened here."
"But they'll question us, Diego. What do we do then."
"Simple Donald, we lie. We tell them that we found Ana and Astra, and we fought with them. We were winning the fight, until an unknown intervened. We couldn't tell who this unknown was, but it fought against us to help Ana and Astra. We were able to escape, but Watson had sustained major injuries protecting us. He then died from his injuries."
"But we aren't injured. They will never believe it if we aren't injured."
"So we injure ourselves Dawn."
With those words said Diego slashed the other foxes. He put many injuries on all of them, but none of them were life threatening. He also injured himself in a similar manner.
"But what about the body. They will definitely ask for Watson's body."
"We leave his body here Dave. Other demonic beasts will eat it and we can say that we couldn't carry it with our injuries. When it is found they will never be able to identify it."
"Okay then, I hope this all works out."
"Trust me it will."
With that the four foxes started their trek back to the forbidden zone. On the way they were found and attacked by many demonic beasts because of the blood flowing from their self inflicted injuries. They ran away from the demonic beasts to only meet other ones. Their trek continued deep into the night. Luckily they were able to make it to the forbidden zone, where they were rescued by the foxes. Watson's mother was also there since she was worried about what happened to her son. When she heard the tale, she immediately flew into a rage, and went to see the king. She found the king in the clearing, along with the queen.
"My king, we must kill Ana and Astra for they have murdered my son."
"If I recall correctly, your son wished to kill them. He should have been prepared to die, as he did."
"My son must be avenged."
"I do not care. He went out seeking death and found it. It is the consequences of his own actions. If anything blame yourself for not preparing him well enough."
"Mark my words. You will avenge my son. I will get you to do it."
She then leaves the clearing.
"So do you really think my daughters have done this?"
"I can't believe that they are still alive. I thought they would have already died. It seems like they found a way to control their element while they were outside of the clan."
"Does that mean you will allow them back into the clan."
"No, they were given that opportunity already and have failed. Bringing them back in would only tarnish my name."
"I understand I won't bring it back up. They are definitely living a better life away from the clan. You still haven't answered my question though. Do you think that my daughters have done this?"
"I can't say for sure, but I honestly think they didn't. They have never been the type that is easy to anger or kill indiscriminately. It is more likely that he was killed by a random demonic beast or infighting. He is still young, inexperienced, and has never properly led others before."
"Do you think she will really force you to kill them?"
"She doesn't have the power to force me to do her bidding."
"Your right."
Going back to Watson's mother now after she has left the clearing. She was grieving over his death as he was her only son. She didn't even have a body to grieve over, though. She really wanted to enact vengeance upon Ana and Astra, but she herself was too insignificant to really do anything. Even if she tried by herself she was too weak to do so. She said that all earlier in hopes that the king would act.
"Watson forgive your mother for not even avenging your death. I'm sorry for all the expectations I put on you."
She continued to grieve and lament at her own powerlessness. While in her grieving another fox came over to her.
"I know you're sad." This fox began to say, but was cut off.
"Sad, sad cannot even begin to describe my feelings. You don't have the right to console me when you have never been through my pain."
"Oh, but I have. I may not have had a child ripped from me, but I have had my husband. He was killed, not even given a chance to fight back."
"I'm sorry; I didn't know."
"It's fine. My son is still there for me and I am very grateful. He's the only thing that is keeping me going. I actually wanted to thank your son."
"Why?"
"My son told me that Watson had protected him while they fought. He would have probably died if it wasn't for Watson, so I have come to thank you for raising him."
"If I may be so presumptuous could I ask to talk to your son. I would like to know what mine's final moments were."
"That's fine as a mother you have a right to know. I am called Diana and my son is called Diego. I'm sorry for introducing myself so late."
"No, that is fine. I'm Wendy and as you know my son is Watson."
"Okay Wendy, follow me and my son will tell you what you wish to know."
As such Diana then guided Wendy to her house. Once their Diana called for Diego and he came. He then began to narrate a story of Watson and his heroic actions that saved him and the others. It was such a well spoken story that one could clearly feel the emotions in Diego's voice. It truly felt like he had watched all of this happen. Most of the story though, pointed out Watson's good points. By the end of the story Wendy was crying, once again mourning her son.
"Oh Watson, I am so sorry that you died an unjust death. Once again please forgive your mother for not avenging your death, and not preparing you enough."
"What do you mean you are not avenging his death?"
"I can't do anything Diana. The king has already decided that he won't avenge Watson."
"That's absurd. Why won't he do anything?"
"He said that since Watson was willing to kill he should also have been willing to die."
"He should still be avenged though. He is still a part of our clan. He was killed by those kicked from the clan. This is absurd. I'll help you force the king to action."
"How are you going to do that Diana? We can't force the king to do anything."
"I will rally the other foxes. They should be willing to help especially when they hear your tale. I should be able to get a lot of them on our side. Then the king would have no choice, but to listen."
"Thank you Diana. I don't know how I can even thank you for all of this."
"You don't need to thank me for this Wendy. Your son saved my son so I will do my best to make sure he is avenged. Go rest for now since I have many things to do to get this all set up."
"Yes, I won't interrupt your work. Thank you once again. You've been so kind to me."
"Again, no thanks needed."
With this Wendy then leaves Diana and Diego's home. Once she was gone Diana called Diego down and they began talking.
"You've done a good job boy. With Watson's death we have an actual reason to rally. With this we will be able to cause confusion. During that confusion we will have a chance. Do you think the truth will be spilled?"
"No mother. The others should not wish to disclose it for fear of the punishment. Plus this lie has already spread. Even if they did disclose the truth, no one would believe them."
"That's good then, very good. With the king being occupied elsewhere we will have an opportunity to kill off his other successors. Then you will be able to ascend and take the throne."
"Yes mother I will, but don't you fear repercussions? Won't the king wish to kill those who killed his successors."
"Boy, the fox tribe works on merit more than personal feelings. Since his successors have died, that just shows how they are weak without him."
"Okay then mother. Do you think that the king would really leave to kill his own daughters?"
"If there is enough pressure on him then he will have no choice. Now boy what do you think of that unknown who was helping the king's daughter. Will it complicate our plans?"
"I am not too sure mother. It seemed to move when the king's daughters were almost dead. I can tell for sure that it is on their side, but anything more than that I have no clue. I highly doubt that the king's daughters have control over it though. If they do have control, it shouldn't be much though."
"And why do you think that boy?"
"If they had control over it, they would surely use it to come back to the fox clan. Also it didn't help them until they were close to death. This definitely shows that it doesn't care for them too much."
"That's good. That's one less variable to worry about then. Now onto the most important thing. How long do you think all of them would be able to stall the king."
"Long enough for us to kill his successors."
"Okay then we can begin working on the plan."
"Yes mother I'll go around to my friends and talk about this."
"Good."
With that Diana and Diego began to spread the information on Watson. They talked about how he wouldn't be avenged even though he was one of them. They placed heavy emphasis on how uncaring the king was. Although Diana did this directly, Diego did it indirectly. He talked about how in awe he was at Watson's power, and how sad it was that he would be avenged. Soon enough every fox knew about this even if they didn't want to. Many thought that Watson should be avenged. He was a rainbow fox, and he did perform a heroic act that saved 4 kids. Wendy was stunned and happy that so many foxes were caring about her son. She was even more grateful to Diana for fulfilling her promise.
Of course there were some foxes that felt Watson's death was deserved. He was just too weak and should have trained more. He had also gone out with the intention to kill. If he wasn't prepared to die then he shouldn't have left. Of course these opinions were the minority and mostly came from the older foxes. Over the next few days Wendy and Diana rallied the foxes. They gathered everyone who agreed with them and went to see the king. Basically all the foxes in the forbidden zone came to the clearing the king was at.
"Why have you all come to see me?" The king said. Of course he already knew their reason for coming, but he still had to ask for formalities sake.
"We have come here to implore you to avenge my son."
"Wendy, don't talk nicely to him. We must speak with authority for we have almost every fox with us."
"Sorry. king, we have come here to demand that you go avenge my son's death."
"And why should I do that. I've said it before and will say it again. He went out to kill so he should have been prepared to die. You didn't prepare him enough so he had died. If you really wish to avenge him then go do it yourself."
"How dare you say that to a mother who has just lost their son."
"A mother who lost her son. All I see here is a coward who can't take responsibility. Instead of owning up to her own mistake she instead rallies the other foxes. What have you all gathered here today for? You have gathered here to force me to do something which you are incapable of doing. It is not my fault that your son died. Many kids died from being overconfident or overzealous and do we go avenge every one of them. No we don't so why should this time be any different."
"It is different because Watson showed heroic actions in protecting others with his life. He was also killed by your children, who should have been killed at birth. If you had just killed them like you were supposed to them Watson wouldn't have died. You say that Wendy is a coward who can't take responsibility, but the same applies to you. You let your daughters live and we are giving you a chance to own up to your mistakes and kill your daughters."
With this statement from Diana the other foxes also begin to give their opinions. Their voices getting louder and louder. Soon their words echo down to, kill your daughters, and make up your mistakes. The king tries to speak yet is drowned out by all the other foxes. The king then sighs loudly, seemingly giving up.
Then with a loud, booming voice he says, "enough."
This one word quickly calms down the foxes and gets them to listen to the king.
"I will admit that letting my daughters live was a mistake that I have made. As such I will leave to kill them tomorrow. While I am gone I am putting the queen in charge. I hope the next time any of you want something you will do it for yourselves, and not rally everyone to make me do it for you."
With those words everyone leaves from the clearing except for the king and the queen.
"Are you really going to kill your daughters?"
"I have no other choice at the moment. If I don't, I won't appease them. While I may be strong, I am nothing without others to rule over."
"Okay then, but please make their deaths quick and painless."
"I will, but first I'll give them a chance to leave the Forest of Calamity completely. If they do I won't chase them and allow them to live outside the forest."
"Thank you my king."
