~ Ten thousand years ago... The War of Magic ~
Before and during the terrible event in universal history known as The War of Magic, many things came to pass. Millions upon millions of lives were ended abruptly. For most, this was the main reason for dreading this horrifying war. The people told tales of this dreadful moment in history for generations everlasting. It was during this conflict that humans learned to use magic. There was one, however, who believed that this massive genocide was righteous.
[First Battle]
In Nihil
Adramellech recruited very few minions, but those who followed him were extremely powerful. Some of his minions were actual beings of light from Uranos itself. When they were banished from Uranos with him, they ended up in the Dark Dimension. While there, they were possessed by the same dark and evil power that encompassed that whole dimension of darkness.
According to what some of the most outstanding scholars of old had believed, Nihil was the first dimension to be created. Ex nihilo... from nothing...
In a young universe, The One existed by himself (or so it was believed) and decided to exercise creation. After creating the first dimension (according to some scholars), he made what many consider to have been the most ancient beings in the universe, the angels. He then created other dimensions and other races. But there was a unique flare in Nihil, his firstborn. Many humans lived in Nihil. Millions of them. But on the day of the battle, the only thing we were able to witness was a Dantesque bloodbath.
Adramellech arrived in Nihil and held the Omega Rod high in the air with his right arm. He was in the sky, and a few human warriors that weren't paralyzed by fear decided to try their luck against him. These humans had learned how to use a different form of magic from that of the present-day (a very powerful form of magic, albeit), so the fact of their defiance wasn't complete lunacy.
As the Omega Rod glistened with power, the sky went pitch black, and an eerie light emanated from the Fiend; the human warriors attempted attacking, but their efforts had no effect. At the same time, the forces of Uranos had arrived only to watch powerless how beauty and life ended in Nihil:
Adramellech: May this strike be the beginning of the end of your wretched existence, humanity!
OMEGA END OF DAYS.
Barachiel arrived in Nihil with the Third Guardian and some other angels. They saw how everything was wiped out due to an unstoppable exploding force that had the Omega Rod as its point of origin, expanding in all directions without end. The Guardian had to teleport those with him away from Nihil for them to survive. After that, Nihil became an extensive land of nothingness. The world that began from nothing had returned to nothing.
Barachiel: We failed! – He said with tears in his eyes.
Third Guardian: I still cannot believe the power he can command with that dark weapon... Alas... Now we know we must not allow him to use it again.
Second Guardian: His goal is to destroy humanity, is it not? Where would he strike next?
Barachiel: What do you mean by his goal? Don't you see? He has already succeeded! All humans in Nihil are now a memory! Millions upon millions of lives that could have been great were all snuffed out way too early! As I said earlier… we have failed!
Second Guardian: Barachiel… - there was silence for a moment afterward. All the angels were heartbroken due to this tragedy... this genocide of unprecedented scale…
Barachiel: The Arkana has a large human population. I'm not sure if Midgard has any... We may need to split our forces... But whatever we do... we have to stop him! This cannot be allowed to happen again on any other dimension!
[Second battle]
Somewhere in the Arkana...
"IT'S HIM!... RUN!"
"Don't be a coward! If we stand together, he won't be able to defeat us!"
"Fine... I'll trust my fellow warriors."
"We must not fail. If we do, that Fiend may consume everything..."
A group of warriors defending the Arkana against chaos decided to stand together against the Fiend that was once known as Ramiel... but at that moment, he became known as Akunaki-kiga or the one with endless hunger.
They spread out on the battlefield and tried immobilizing him using Time magic spells such as Slow and Stop. The spells weren't effective since he could shrug the effects off almost instantly. As one used a massive Lighting spell, another prepared his most powerful Dimensional spell... Meteor shower. The Lightning had hit him but hardly caused any damage. But as he opened his mouth, the other mage warrior cast his spell.
Mage: METEOR SHOWER!
A rift in space was opened, and hundreds of meteors shot through the sky toward the Fiend's location. The meteors flattened the field with massive destruction. Such a powerful display of force seemed to have destroyed the Fiend.
"Direct hit!"
"Hold on... Where is he?"
"Did we get him?"
"Search for his body! He has to be somewhere around the wreckage..."
The Guardians arrived at their location as they were busy searching for the Fiend's body. Sadly, they didn't arrive early enough.
Second Guardian: HE IS ABOVE YOU... BE CAREFUL!!!
The mage warriors, startled by the sudden warning, directed their sight above their heads. All too late. He had opened his mouth in their direction, uttering the words that would give him sustenance and end their existence.
CONSUME!
The Guardians that were present hurried to attempt to seal the Fiend's movements, hoping to save the brave mages. It was too late. They were all gone.
However, they succeeded in immobilizing him.
Second Guardian: You have stolen your final meal, Fiend. In the name of all that's holy... By the power given me by The One Himself... May this be thine end!
The Second Guardian was equipped with the Dragon Claw knuckles. While the other Guardians immobilized the Fiend, he flew in and struck him down with a single blow, carrying all his might. The attack was a well-placed one. The Fiend was defeated, and the Guardians cast a sealing spell that banished him to the Void.
[Third Battle]
Somewhere in an unknown dimension
The battle had begun some time ago. Angel and Barachiel were on point in the attack. Something strange had happened, though. It seemed as though they were all transported to some unknown dimension. They were in The Arkana, but then they weren't. They were doing battle against the Spirit Fiend, the Grand Master.
Angel and Barachiel were lost in something the Grand Master called Phobos, the Nightmare Dimension (a dimension created by the Grand Master himself). Despite seemingly spending several days trapped there, only a few minutes had passed in the real world. Angel was able to break free without the Fiend realizing it, and while he was distracted, she used the Staff of Zoe to amplify the power of her Sleep spell exponentially. The Fiend fell powerless to this unexpected attack, and Barachiel was also able to break free from Phobos. When he was back in The Arkana, he was still somewhat disoriented. He drew excessive power from the Sword of Light and struck the Fiend with great might.
The strike had a strange aftereffect... It appeared as though the Grand Master was split in two. His body was destroyed. But not too long afterward, his essence simply vanished. The Fiend was defeated.
Barachiel: Angel. Are you well?
Angel: I... I believe something is not right...
Angel's wings were shedding. A transformation was taking place in her body. She had abused the staff's power and therefore fell victim to its curse. She was no longer an angel.
[Fourth Battle]
In Uranos
The four Guardians were deliberating, hoping to achieve unanimity in their battle plans and on how to defeat the Four Fiends.
First Guardian: Why can't you make more weapons of the arsenal of light? Three do not seem like much of an arsenal to me...
Second Guardian: Adramellech's curse affected me, not only the weapons. I was not even able to complete the work on the Dragon Claw Knuckles. They turned out to be powerful but without divine properties. It will take time before I can use my forging abilities again.
Third Guardian: Adramellech is cunning indeed. He intended for this to happen. But surely there must be something we can do together to remedy such a curse... if we wait, who knows if it will take you centuries or even millennia to become uncursed...
Second Guardian: I am open to any suggestions.
Fourth Guardian: Perhaps we could return to that topic once you have voiced your thoughts about this matter over here...
They all directed their attention toward an object the Fourth Guardian had concealed.
But there was an intruder that began wreaking havoc in Uranos at that precise moment. He was looking for the Guardians specifically.
Kasiel: I am come to purge reality from the stench of the Guardians. Do not stand in my way or face my wrath.
First Guardian: You fool. You stand no chance against the four of us here.
Fourth Guardian: Let us rejoice, brothers! For he has saved us the trouble of seeking him out throughout the universe.
Third Guardian: Enough talk.
The Third Guardian stood up and tried to trap Kasiel in an immobilization spell. He thought his spell was successful but later realized that the Fiend had fooled him. Kasiel had one of the weapons from the arsenal of darkness with him but hadn't used it at any moment before. It was a strange thing to occur, him having the weapon. Adramellech was not on good terms with any of the other Fiends. What likely happened was that Kasiel had somehow stolen the weapon.
It was clear that he was about to start using the peculiar weapon. As he prepared to take advantage of the long-range of the halberd, Third Guardian Rikbiel did something unexpected. He summoned the giant warrior that was fighting for the forces of light. The giant then appeared between the Third Guardian and Kasiel.
The Demon halberd was powerful enough to pierce the giant, but he immediately readied his own weapon, Titan, and tried crushing the Fiend with a mighty swing. However, as he swung the massive hammer, Kasiel had already moved out of the way.
The First Guardian threw feather-daggers at him that came out of his wings. A few of them hit Kasiel, and he started to slow down to a stop.
First Guardian: Before you are banished into oblivion forever, you will speak the truth. Try to deceive me, and you shall anxiously wish for your death - Lying to the First Guardian activated a horrible curse.
Kasiel: Unlike your lot, I am no liar.
First Guardian: Explain your words. What is it you intend to imply?
Kasiel: Is it not obvious? You Guardians claim to be the pinnacle of purity and righteousness, yet what happened in the Dark Dimension was a device of your own plot.
First Guardian: Nonsense!
Kasiel: Do you believe me a liar, First Guardian? You, of all people, know that I speak the truth.
For a moment, the First Guardian lost his resolve just imagining the possibility. All things started turning to disarray the moment those four angels went to investigate the Dark dimension. To think that it was all part of an elaborate plot conceived by one of the Guardians is something that would have never crossed his mind.
But that mere moment was enough for Kasiel to launch a gut-wrenching attack. He used the Demon-Halberd to pierce the First Guardian from another dimension (the Demon-Halberd could pierce anyone and anything regardless of location. It pierces dimensions and had incredible destructive power).
The First Guardian was fatally wounded and too weak to perform even the simplest Cure spell.
As the other Guardians attempted to aid their brother-in-arms, Kasiel used the power of the Demon-Halberd once more... This time he summoned powerful lightning to strike all three other Guardians simultaneously. This strike left the Guardians in critical condition.
Kasiel: I shall restore balance to the universe by riding it from you.
Fourth Guardian: Do not believe that you have defeated us just yet!
Selaphiel opened a dimensional gateway behind Kasiel, intending to push him through. Still, Kasiel was way faster with his strike, summoning powerful lightning, which apparently de-materialized him on the spot.
The First Guardian Yomiel was drawing his last breath, and Kasiel was about to finish off the Second and Third Guardians. Yomiel, Harbinger of Truth, used his unique skill to uncover the truth about what the Fiend had said.
First Guardian: It- - can-not- - be!
As Kasiel was about to deal the finishing blow, a black flame began to sear his eyes.
Kasiel: What is this sorcery?! Who is responsible for this?! My eyes! I can't see!
While he was impaired due to blindness, the giant ran toward him and pressed him to the ground. He was now unable to move.
Kasiel: I have to destroy them! I must destroy the Guardians! Release me, you over-grown oaf! I must destroy them all!
Kohrr: Magnitude 10
The giant used his earth-based magic to tear him apart. Kasiel was defeated. The force of the shockwaves created by the earth spell used by the giant pushed him back into the portal opened by the Fourth Guardian. But Kasiel had placed a curse on the giant and his weapon just before being blasted into the Void. First Guardian Yomiel was dead. Fourth Guardian Selaphiel was as well. The Second and Third Guardians survived by the skin of their teeth.
[First Battle: Conclusion]
The Arkana
An overwhelming sense of dread filled the air. The Fiend of death... The one who had vowed to purge the universe of humanity was ready to strike again. Only this time, the forces of light were ready and waiting for him to make his move.
Adramellech had the Omega Rod with him, ready to use it in the same way as he did in Nihil. As he began lifting the rod with his hand above him, lightning started sparking from both him and the rod. The sky turned black as if it were nightfall, and all living things found themselves fearful of an awful omen.
The Second and Third Guardians were hidden nearby and revealed themselves to Adramellech. He didn't stop charging his powerfully devastating attack, though. He continued gathering energy even after he saw them. But the Guardians used their signature attack, Extermination Ray. Adramellech was forced to cancel his channeling to focus on defense. But while he was struggling to defend against two Extermination Rays, Barachiel came down from above carrying Angel (who had lost her angelic properties due to a curse for drawing too much power from the Staff of Zoe).
Angel: Forces of light, hear my plea! Halt all ill intent to the force of my will!
HOLD!
The Staff of Zoe amplified the spell's power and made it highly effective. Adramellech could not move, realizing that the Guardians' attack was nothing but a distraction.
Adramellech: Damn you all to oblivion, you fools! Can't you see that what I intend to do must be done?! Humanity is a scourge... a plague! If I don't stop them now, unspeakable evils will spawn from their treachery!
Barachiel then shot a powerful beam of light from the Sword of Light, which stunned Adramellech.
Guardians: Power of light granted by The One... Seal this demon in the most bottomless pit of darkness forever!
SEAL!
At that moment, Adramellech was sealed and banished to the Dark Dimension, where he could not escape.
And so, the Four Fiends were defeated and sealed away in different realms of existence for millennia. The heroes that fought bravely to defeat them received no honor or glory. The surviving Guardians mysteriously disappeared centuries later.
Angel changed her name to Angela and started living among the humans in the Arkana, bringing about the Pendragon lineage. The brave and mighty giant (today known as Kohrr) was never heard from again. And something strange happened to Barachiel...
