Richard: You mean the four fiends, do you not?
Richard was correcting him, but Meg doubled down.
Meg: The legend we all know mentions four fiends that once wreaked havoc in the world. They had immense unrivaled power, and they antagonized each other. Their wars were said to have destroyed the world a very long time ago.
Richard, a bit confused by Meg's initial words, continued to inquire attempting to get him to clarify.
Richard: Then why did you say five instead of four? That seems to be the error of a novice. From what I can tell about you, Meg... you are no novice...
Meg paused for a moment and looked at Richard intently... After a few moments, he answered
Meg: Because I know for a fact that they are actually five.
Rachel: Does that mean that our history teachers and books were wrong?
Legend looked confused and said:
Legend: Guys, I'm lost. Can someone explain what's going on? - Richard then gave him the background.
Richard: Everyone has heard of the 4 fiends, Legend... Ok... I shall explain.
About ten thousand years ago, four masters of evil with enormous power rose up and ruled the whole world. Their true origins are strangely unclear. But as they rose to power, they each established themselves in different territories, and they were all rivals... No... They were enemies. So if any of them attempted to enter another fiend's lands, long and horrendous battles would ensue. At some point, a group of noble warriors rose to defeat them all... And according to records of our history, a battle unlike any other came to pass. This great battle was said to have destroyed the world. The nameless heroes that defeated the Fiends were never heard from again.
Legend: What are you talking about? Isn't the world still here? Or was it another world that was destroyed…? This is so confusing!
Meg: Legend has pointed out exactly the same thing I was thinking… the world is still standing... Well... This one, at least...
Richard: It seems as if you intend to imply that there are other worlds besides this one…- he said with a tone of disbelief.
Meg: As a matter of fact... There are! The Arkana is not the only world or dimension that exists... There are actually many. But there are four main dimensions that hold reality together.
Everyone looked at Meg in a state of shock as he continued to speak.
Meg: Legend is originally from one of those other dimensions.
Legend remembered what it was like. Going to school. Hanging out with the pigeons at the park. Tasting his mother's cooking. It felt so distant yet so fresh in his mind.
Meg: Just as how Rachel and Nimrod entered the dream world and were in danger of being trapped there if things had gone wrong, the place they entered was another dimension: The Nightmare dimension, Phobos. This world, or should I say, dimension, is the Arkana... One of three sources of magic. Legend came from the dimension called Midgard, the one he knows as Earth. I was counting on his arrival because I knew he would be worthy of wielding the Sword of Light. It wasn't supposed to be like this, though... I think something may have gone wrong in the process of his arrival... And in that process... He ended up losing a great deal of memory...
Rachel: Meg...
Rachel had a look on her face as if she had just made a frightening discovery.
Rachel: Can anyone open gateways to travel through dimensions?
Meg: Well... It is technically possible... Not for humans, though. In order to accomplish that, a person would have needed to have been exposed to incredible power... There are powerful barriers keeping dimensions apart. To meddle with those barriers and open gateways isn't just extremely difficult, but also very dangerous... Especially if you don't know what you're doing. We must beware of our friend, the mysterious mage who helped us earlier... At least until we learn his true intentions. It may very well be that he isn't human at all.
Richard: If he is not human then what is he?
Rachel continued with a puzzled and preoccupied look on her face. Meg didn't reply to Richard's last question. Richard didn't bother insisting on it either.
Legend: So there are four or five really strong and really bad guys out there... And several dimensions. What are we supposed to do about it?
Meg: You, Legend, are supposed to unlock your true powers and defeat them. If they're not dealt with, all known dimensions may be in grave danger... you and your friends are now tasked with this noble quest.
Legend was shocked. It was hard for him to accept the fact that he was some sort of hero.
Legend: {I'm supposed to save the world?! This can't be right... Have I watched too much anime or something? I must have lost my mind completely!}
Rachel: So the one they called The Grand Master... was he one of them? One of those Five Fiends?
Meg: He most definitely was. The Spirit Fiend. And I can't really say that he was the worst of the bunch. Although... in a way... they're all pretty much the worst of the bunch!
Richard: I never thought I would end up in battle against an ancient evil such as this one...
Meg: To be fair, Legend, Rachel, and Nimrod were in battle against him... and Legend got the worst part. But with the Sword of Light and the rest of the arsenal of Light, we can prevail against their return!
Legend was completely speechless. To have this responsibility rest on his shoulders was anxiety-inducing. He couldn't believe that it was real.
Meg: Do you remember the statues we saw in that castle, Legend? They were not decorations. The unworthy that touch the Sword of Light are instantly cursed to be stone statues forever. You were deemed worthy by the Holy Sword of Light. It means that you are one of the chosen warriors that must save us all!
Legend seemed to be a little more nervous after hearing that.
Legend: {I've never been in charge of anything in my entire life! Not that I've lived that long, anyway but... Oh, man! Now, this bird is saying that I'm in charge of defeating a gang of evil maniacs? This has to be a bad dream…} – Legend's thoughts stewed in a brew of uneasiness.
Richard: I find your boundless knowledge on the matter rather puzzling, Meg... And it does not cease to baffle me how a pigeon is acting as the captain of our little squad... Tell me... Who are you really?
Meg closed his eyes for a moment. He didn't say anything.
Richard: A pigeon just happens to know all this? Besides, clearly, you have had an interest in Legend from the moment I met you. Definitely even before that. However… it is clear that you are no enemy. Or at least that is what it seems... for now... Forgive me for prying, but you cannot deny that you present us with a puzzling and unique scene here…
Meg: You don't need to think about it too much. I assure you that I'm worthy of your trust. My goal is simple and clear: I want the evil that is menacing the Arkana to be stopped. Whatever the reason may be, as Richard pointed out moments ago, I have this boundless knowledge on the matter. I understand it may seem strange to you, but don't let that distract you from the issue at hand. The Arkana is in grave danger! I know that something must be done. If not, I fear not only for this world but for all the others as well.
Legend then started to remember how back on Earth, Meg was just a regular pigeon. He loved bread, rice, and corn. He used to go crazy over popcorn. The fact that this young man from Midgard found himself in a different body in a different dimension, but the same pigeon was with him... with the ability to speak nonetheless (and boy, did he love to speak!) was extremely puzzling. Legend wanted to know if Meg's talking ability was the result of magic or something else entirely...
Legend: So, Meg... You're not the same pigeon I knew back on Earth... I mean, Midgard, are you? – He asked timidly.
Meg had this mysterious look about him, and they all had their eyes fixed on him.
Meg: I'm afraid that… is a bit of a secret...
