"What are you?" the city lord jumped away from me.
"If I wanted to tell you then I wouldn't be wearing the mask," I replied haughtily.
His expression hardened as he prepared to rush me again. I didn't think an onlooker would be able to tell I used a small amount of divine energy just by viewing the fight. The part I was more worried about was that my blood was filling in the cracks on my gauntlets. Actively repairing the the white scales as they absorbed my blood. I didn't mind.
They wouldn't get much out of me before their healing affect stopped the bleeding. I didn't have much time to think about it as I was rushed again. The lord changed his combat style. Weaving spells into his sword strikes. It extended each of his strikes so that each one affected a good ten feet beyond the end of the blade.
Runes that ran down the blade slowly started to light up one by one. I couldn't see them clearly enough to tell what those runes did exactly. My speed accelerated as I tried to keep up with his movements. He started to get more aggressive with his spells. Forcing me back as I tried to break the spells before they could get to me.
He was getting daring now as my mana started to run low. Throwing larger more explosive spatial distortions at me one by one. Blowing massive holes in the clearing as they were knocked aside one by one. I was getting my ass handed to me. Unable to keep up with each of his strikes as he forced me back bit by bit.
He accelerated even further. Only one rune hadn't lit up yet. I was kind of curious what the sword would do once it was fully charged. I was excited to see what would happen. The city lord appeared to be growing a bit smug as he forced me closer, and closer to the forest.
I could see the light slowly spreading across the last rune. He threw a strong blow at me. Throwing me off of him with a hard swing. I skidded to a stop a good fifteen feet away. The lord pointed his blade at me with a little too much joy.
A beam of light left the blade. It was small, and concentrated. Double the size of a basketball. The beam was aimed a little low, and it incinerated everything from my upper thigh to my belly button. The lord dropped his blade, and leaned on it for a moment.
He assumed I was done, but even without my legs I was too stubborn to die. The lord wasn't expecting my next attack. He dodged the attack, and slammed me into the ground. Delivering a final blow to the heart. At least that's what I thought he was seeing.
He leaned on the hilt of his sword. Breathing heavily after what he thought was a satisfying battle that he'd just won. I was sitting on a rock a hundred yards away watching him with a smirk as the toxin I'd spread around him made him think he was winning a fight against me. I wasn't a hundred percent sure that the toxin would work on an elf. Watching him fight a one sided battle while speculating on what he was hallucinating wasn't as satisfying as fighting him myself, but it was amusing.
It was nice to see that he thought I was a difficult opponent, and it was nice to know that he underestimated me. He wasted a good amount of mana in this fight because he thought I was weaker then him. If I was being honest with myself he was probably right. Unless I went all out, and used my divine energy I would lose. I didn't want to give away that much about myself.
I couldn't erase an entire fight from time. Especially if I used as much mana as I would have needed to beat this asshole. Now I only needed to erase from this moment forward. I walked toward the city lord slowly.
"Come Oblivion," I called my soul blade.
It appeared in my grip. The blade was nearly transparent. It looked like a longsword made from glass. I needed to end this in one blow if I could pull it off. The city lord was regenerating his mana faster than I thought possible.
His reserve might not be as big as mine, but his talent for magic, and his ability to draw in mana would make him a problem in a long fight. Oblivion always activated my foresight ability whenever it was in my hand. I slashed at the air about ten feet behind where he was standing now as I got closer. I squared up to the exhausted city lord. Just to the side so I could cut his head off in a single blow.
I raised Oblivion above my head. Gripping the hilt with both hands as I prepared the divine energy the blade required. I slashed down. Wasting the divine energy as the city lord snapped out of the hallucination, and jumped out of the swing of my blade. Stopping about ten feet behind where he'd just been.
"What are you?" He spoke quietly as if he were asking himself.
He squared up quickly as he gripped the hilt of his sword. He looked confused as I started laughing.
"You're already dead," My tone turned serious.
His blade dropped from his grip as the slash I'd place earlier activated. Cutting his head free from his body. Oblivion could manipulate any element I could. Which meant it was fully capable of manipulating time as well. Sending a slash forward in time was something my blade could do.
I could also send slashes back through time as well. It was cheaper divine energy wise to send slashes forward then it was to send them back. The toxin wasn't perfect. It caused a hallucination. More specifically it made whoever was dosed with it see themselves winning a fight.
