It was important to recognize my weaknesses. I straightened slowly.
"The drones will follow us," I snorted, "We should get going."
Savannah, and Ethan both moved. The obvious intent behind their movements made me smirk as I left the tent. I only had to wait for ten minutes before they were both ready. Switching to my true form as soon as they were ready. Ethan jumped from the ground to my back like usual.
Savannah waited for me to help her up. She didn't want them to know just how strong she really was. Not yet anyway. I flicked my tail over to her, and allowed her to stand on it as I lifted her up. I snorted as I glanced at the drone tent quickly before taking off.
I hovered over the camp for fifteen minutes. It was intentional. Meant to draw attention. I turned, and flew north. That would surprise a few people.
Even if there wasn't a drone following me now there would be in no time. There was no way Eric was going to ignore me while I was flying straight for him. I made sure I was flying high enough that I wouldn't be perceived as a threat by those below. I had to keep my bonded warm so multiple fire breaths were needed as I flew along leisurely. The drones kept themselves at a distance when they came up behind me.
They were obviously trying to stay out of my line of sight while spying from a distance. Really was too bad that my line of sight was a lot further then their drones. My muscles trembled as I continued the long flight northward. I sailed right past the settlement before circling down for a short break. I only needed to rest for about half an hour before I was fresh enough to take to the air again.
Another half an hour, and we were over the remains of the farm. Only one of the wyverns that were investigating earlier was still here. I hovered over the farm as I waited for the drones to catch up. They'd have time to scan the area below me if I gave them that time. I wanted to head farther north as soon as possible, but I needed to wait until I had the drones attention again.
I wasn't exactly the main target of Eric's focus right now. I ignored the wyvern, and started moving further north. Disturbing the air around the drones as I portaled them to me.
"Stick close, and you might last long enough to be useful," I snorted flames near the drones, "I'll leave you behind if you get too far from me."
I pushed further north. There would be no landing this far north. I could feel the pulse of powerful magic to the north. There was something powerful nearby. I kept on pushing north.
The drones stayed with me. It was obvious that I was getting more, and more tense as I flew northward. The power that pulsed below me grew as I headed further, and further north. I slowed as much as I could while maintaining proper flight.
{Do you feel that too?} I asked Savannah.
{Enough pulsing magic to make my blood boil,} Savannah was just as tense as I was.
I switched to infrared. This was a cold planet so I shouldn't see anything but shades of blue. I flinched at the bright purples, and reds. The cold of the surface stopped most of the heat from reaching the surface, but it was obvious that there was a large amount of heat coming up from below. The light became more intense the further I looked north.
I felt something entering the edge of my spatial awareness. I rolled away from it quickly as I activated my foresight ability. Claws clamped on the empty space where I used to be. This one was far larger then any of the other wyverns I'd ever seen before. My muscles tensed as I dropped out of the sky.
I formed a portal the direction I was falling, and another far above where I was now. I fell through my portal, and came out above the massive wyvern. His massive head snapped upward. His roar was enough to shake the air around me even though I was over five hundred feet away. He was a massive beast.
His head alone was nearly as big as my entire body. His feet had talons the size, and length of my head. I wasn't ready to fight a beast like this. Fear pounded through my veins as a massive pulse of energy went out. It didn't come from the wyvern below me.
It came from the ground. The ground below came alive with movement. The big beast below me hadn't noticed the drones that were near him yet. I really hoped they were looking down right now. The snow had burst open in dozens of different places.
Revealing dozens of entrances to the underground network of tunnels as dozens of wyverns shot out of the tunnels. I really hoped those drones were pointed down. He was fast too. I hadn't expected him to move like that. His impressive bulk made me wonder how he was able to move like this as he closed in on me.
My wings lit up with lightning as I inhaled. Lightning arced throughout my entire body as it concentrated in my lungs. The lightning throughout my body vanished so that my lungs were the only part of my body that contained all the lightning that had been arcing through my entire body a moment before. I released all the lightning in my lungs in a single burst. That burst hit the massive wyvern in the back.
Arcing out away from him as it hit. His limbs went rigid as he tumbled back down toward the ground. All the wyverns near the massive one that got hit from the lightning that arced off the point of impact fell with him. I really hoped he would be hurt when he hit the ground. I inhaled again for another attack.
