Chereads / The Archaic Dragon Mage / Chapter 414 - 28

Chapter 414 - 28

The outer wall had been repaired, but the inner wall was still mostly destroyed. The large broken equipment in this room looked like some sort of system of restraints. Something big had broken through this wall. This computer was more interesting then the others I'd looked at. I pulled up the video footage of the normal looking wyvern hatchling as it cried out for food.

The scientist on the video talked about augmenting the wyvern with human DNA. That the hatchling showed an increased level of intelligence. I wasn't really listening to him. I was listening to her. Talking to them happily in high pitched draconic.

This wasn't the broken draconic the male had used. This was obvious clear speaking. I skipped to the next video. She didn't sound happy about this anymore. She was crying.

They were hurting her. She had multiple bald spots with needle marks in them. Her scales had been pried out so they could get samples. She had grown to the size of a horse, and they'd strapped her down. I went to the next video.

In this video she was the size of a small car. She wasn't begging them to stop anymore. Now she was angry. Now she was threatening to kill every human that came anywhere near her. That was when the alpha male hatched.

Her own power skyrocketed after that. The male was what allowed the female to break out of human control. She broke free of her restraints, and trashed a large number of monitors. Yet all of the monitors in here were new, and so were the restraints. Eric planned to do it again.

I let all my mana out at once. Turning it all to darkness. My darkness ate away at the entire lab. Consuming the monitors, and the equipment. I retaped the tablet to my back, and focused on trashing the lab.

I would allow my darkness to consume this whole building. Alarms had started going off outside. There was an army headed this way. I picked up the two guys I'd knocked out, and drug them along behind me while my mana consumed the whole building. It didn't take long for the building to start caving in on itself.

I walked out through a hole in the wall, and tossed the two guys at the gathering army of men. My mana blazed in my eyes. Drawing the attention of the army of guys that came here to save the building.

"You know it's illegal to genetically alter living creatures right?" I still had a female form so the feminine giggle that followed was believable, "You created a real monster for yourselves." my tone turned serious toward the end, "You do know that what you've done has caused you more pain then if you'd just left it alone."

Multiple weapons pointed my direction. I just laughed at them before dropping into the shadows like I'd never been there in the first place. The startled cries of the men could still be heard by me in the shadow. I moved at high speed through the shadows of the buildings as my canceled out the effect my mana. My dark mana had consumed the entire building as well as part of the buildings next to it.

I needed to take a more in depth look at the footage I'd managed to secure. There would be some hint of what direction the wyverns had really gone when they left this place. They wouldn't know the terrain well. They were raised in a lab. They wouldn't go far.

I rushed through the shadows. Going around the lights, and changing back to my true form before trying to open a spatial portal. The spatial magic intermingled with the dark magic, and suddenly my mind was flooded with options of what shadows I could go do from here. I chose to move to Savannah's shadow from here. Savannah was slightly startled by my sudden closeness as I emerged from her shadow.

Passing the tablet to her as I did. Claws weren't exactly meant for handling tech.

"How much did you get?" She asked.

"I don't know," I shrugged as my spines scraped on the ice ceiling of the temporary shelter.

Ethan tapped his fingers impatiently. Savannah opened up the tablet, and we started watching together. There were multiple technical documents. Dozens of videos, and reports. They'd tried to just clone pure wyverns at first, but the vast majority of the clones didn't last long enough to leave the cloning chambers.

That was when they started trying to bring live beasts to the lab, and the live beasts started dying too. That was when they discovered only the beasts that were born on this planet could survive in this lab. Then they brought the beasts of this planet to one of their smaller outposts, and found that the beasts that were healthy here died on other worlds. After that revelation they started hybridizing wyverns with the local beasts. The ones that survived were constantly sick or unable to eat on their own.

They tried adding less DNA to the genetic soup, and focusing more on creating wyverns. It was then they decided to try adding human DNA to the mix. It was more of a whim then it was an actual experiment. The first result was a disaster, but this disaster lived long enough to leave the tanks on the first try. That was when they started pursuing alterations that involved human DNA.

The alpha female had very little human DNA comparatively to the previous experiments. It seemed as if Eric was trying to get ahead by getting himself his own mounted flying combat units. There was one video that was made weeks after the females escape. In this last video it was mentioned that the wyverns fled north, and not south like Eric had suggested.

"We should see who Eric is sending north," I smashed the ice shelter.

Knocking the entire roof off the shelter in one smooth satisfying motion.

"Someone knows that people are being sent north," Savannah tapped her foot, "And we need to know about them."
