Be the adult here. I reminded myself. I wasn't going to be falling for Aurora's sly way of getting closer to me. She'd have another male to give her attention soon. That should take some of her attention off of me.
If that attention was taken off of me. I'd be able to control my thoughts better. My wings twitched slightly when I realized that I didn't really want her to take her attention off of me. I shook the feeling off, and focused anywhere but where Aurora was standing. I snorted angrily.
I was both irritated, and excited by the prospect of a female of my own kind paying attention to me. I curled up at the edge of the village just inside of the wall I'd created back when the village had come under attack. The archway wasn't new, but more work had gone into it. There were new houses being built, and the overall power, and health of the werewolves that lived here had increased noticeably. I was expecting that kind of change just not as fast as it was happening.
The majority werewolves had been equal to some of the stronger ability user's I knew before. Now it was obvious that a single strong ability user wouldn't be able to pin a werewolf down for long. They were more aggressive in their training fights, but their ability to heal had increased. Anything short of getting a limb torn off would heal on its own in a few days. Even if one of their limbs did get torn off it would just need some stitching, and time before it would be as good as new.
Two weeks of time to be exact, and that was if Aurora wasn't the one doing the treatment. Goliath had purchased her her own personal library of biology texts, and medical books. He had a thing for the real paper books, and the lack of knicks on the edges of the pages told me that she treated the books well. They'd built her her own outdoor reading area. The books were kept in a waterproof case underneath the shelter of an open covered area.
The handles of the case had been modified so that she could easily get hold of them even as she grew larger. It was a design that reminded me of oversized oval doorknobs. The structure was simi hidden in the back corner of the village since it was obvious that the shelter was meant to house something two or three times my size. I'd barely looked it over the last time I was here, but I was curious about it. There were a few interesting adventure stories mixed in, and a couple history books.
Which made me chuckle since any recent history books were missing out on a whole lot of history. It was obvious that Goliath was trying his best to educate her. I could tell which books held her interest the most by how much dust was collecting on the others. She hadn't read the history book recently but it wasn't the one she'd paid the least attention to. Surprisingly she had ignored the adventure books the longest.
I felt a bit guilty that I didn't know she could read. I hadn't realized how fast a normal drakeling could learn, and mature. I'd started out understanding language. Both spoken, and written. Sure I was taking a crash course in magic, and succeeding for the most part, but Aurora was studying the kind of stuff a medical student in collage might.
I was beginning to think that she was smarter then me. I debated on picking up one of the books, and opening it to see if I could understand it as well as she could. That maybe understanding biology better would allow me to be more precise whenever I healed anyone. I didn't really need to know how to heal like she did. Just watching her walk through the village told me how much respect she had among the werewolves now.
I'd seen her heal some of Calen's men as well as some of the lizardmen after the battle with the spider queen. She'd put the work in, and it showed when she healed anyone. It was impressive. I couldn't fall behind the younger dragon. Sure I specialized in combat, and she specialized in healing, but I was pretty sure I could do feats that were just as impressive.
I started doing the exercise with multiple elements again while using the time element at the same time. Sure it felt as if I was melting my brain whenever I did this, but it steadily improved all my elements at the same time. Except for space, and gravity, but I would get plenty of opportunities to use them both. I was going to be using space element on a daily basis, and I had a higher talent for space element then I did most of the others so I was leveling that one fairly fast without doing anything extra. Similar to the way my lightning affinity leveled up.
I kept at the mind numbing elemental exercise for a few hours before I stopped to massage my sore head into one of the corner poles of the high shelter area. I picked one of the adventure books off the shelf, and set it down on the reading podium. I flicked it open, and started reading. I wasn't really into reading. I preferred to do things.
I got about halfway through the book before the words stopped really meaning anything to me. I snapped it closed, and placed it back on the shelf gently. Aurora would be pissed if I messed up her books. At least I was pretty sure she would be. I'd be pissed if someone messed up my stuff.
I turned my head when I felt eyes on my back. Aurora's silver eyes glowed in the dark of the night. I hadn't even noticed that night had fallen. She strode into the library as I stepped to the side to allow her in. She didn't look or feel angry so I must not have done anything that disturbed her space.
