Nearly all the creatures I ate that were on earth when I ate them didn't cause any sort of mana poisoning.
Dragon cores do not take on the mana of other worlds, and are therefore more sensitive to the mana of the poisoned worlds. Normal cores can take on the mana of other worlds at a high strain on the core.
I wasn't expecting a system response. What do you mean dragon cores are more sensitive to the mana of the poisoned worlds?
Dragon cores constantly produce mana, and rarely needed to draw mana from the world as the species developed. Therefore dragons do not have a high tolerance for the mana of other worlds. Mana poisoning will eventually kill any creature that isn't compatible with a world, but it takes weeks or even months for them to do so.
What makes humans different?
Humans evolved alongside dragons. Hundreds of years being flooded with the mana of a powerful origin species granted them a unique ability to either reject or take in all sorts of mana. Many of the humans that took the path of rejecting all sorts of mana became compatible with the abilities humans now make.
So the human race has split into two different sub races?
The human race has always been divided into two different sub races. These abilities are an attempt to bridge the gap between a the magic races, and the magic less humans.
My wings twitched as I thought about it. It did make some sense. The amount of foreign mana in the creatures I ate here was low enough that my body could dispel it on it's own. None of it made it to my core. That meant that any creature could take in the mana of our world, and live for a while.
Except maybe another origin species. I snorted. It was time to go find Aurora before she got into trouble. I was in a fairly clear spot so I didn't need to worry about any trees when I took off. I debated on going up to touch the top of the dome just because I could.
I scanned the surroundings with my infrared vision. Aurora was a good distance away from where I was. It wouldn't take me long to reach her. I searched the surrounding woods right quick for anything else that might be worrisome. Only to find that there was a large number of humans nearby.
I decided it might be better to have Aurora come to me since I couldn't switch to my human form at the moment. I stretched, and roared. Aurora's own roar answered in the distance. My eyes were drawn back to the group of humans. They'd been spooked by the twin roars.
That made me sure that it was a group of students. I sat, and waited for Aurora to come to me. Some of the humans appeared to be more calm then others. Making me think they were either second years or teachers. Aurora dropped down next to me with a bouncing stride as she switched from flying to walking.
"Do you want to go over to talk to those humans?" Aurora asked.
"I'm not on earth right now," I chuckled, "And you're not supposed to exist."
I created a portal back to the werewolves island. Pushing her through first with my nose. She looked mildly annoyed with my insistence, but her annoyance dropped as her bond thrummed to life. At least that was what I assumed since I was feeling the same relief she was at that moment. Rift city wouldn't make a good hunting ground for very long.
We'd need another hunting ground sooner rather then later. Creating portals off planet wasn't exactly a good idea. It exhausted all of my mana to create a stable portal for long enough for all of us to cross through. Sure I could draw on the mana of the dragon cores, but that wouldn't last forever. I needed to either increase my mana pool or find another hunting ground on earth.
Rift city wasn't the only portal zone on earth. It was however one of the safest ones. Strictly controlled, and monitored at all times. Our appearance there would cause an uproar, and probably up the number of patrols. Although I was sure they'd need more then one sighting to make them move.
The military might be willing to mobilize on any Archaic creature, but with their forces stretched so thin there would be a lot of red tape, and paperwork to do before they took the sighting of a large flying archaic seriously. Creatures that were actively attacking would take priority. Then there was the shortage of cores to consider. Weapons that could harm a beast like me weren't all that common. I doubted that the low quality cores they were gathering now could do a damn thing against me.
Even if they were forged properly. Sure they could hurt Aurora, but me. I was a completely different beast then the one they'd locked in their basement a year ago. Aurora stopped midway down the hill, and shuddered slightly. I felt a bit of concern well withing me.
Her scales started shedding rapidly as she increased in size noticeably. My concern vanished as Aurora's baby teeth started falling out. She was a little late in my opinion, but my growth couldn't be considered normal. It accelerated or slowed randomly based on the experience I was getting from my enemies. It bothered me a bit.
How much control the system had over my growth. This hatchling was going to have it better then Aurora did when she hatched. I seriously doubted that it would ever be alone. I was pretty sure that was something that had bothered Aurora. Aurora's fresh new white scales had a slight twinge of red along the edges.
It was barely a hair thin line of red, but it was still there. I was glad her scales had retained most of that reflective white. She spit out a few random teeth from toward the back. Her silver eyes fell on me for a second. Dropping to half lidded as she smirked at me.
