Chereads / The Archaic Dragon Mage / Chapter 356 - 8.3

Chapter 356 - 8.3

"No," I resisted the urge to slap my tail on the cement, "I don't think that's a good idea."

"Why not?" Jax looked genuinely confused.

"You've been missing for a long time Jax," I felt my teeth poking through the gums in my agitation, "I don't think you'll be able to come back if you leave."

"I don't think its a good time to hatch another dragon either," Savannah changed the subject quickly, "Who's going to raise it?"

"The werewolves have no problem watching out for a hatchling," I shrugged.

Glad she'd changed the subject.

"I'm the best mage my grandfather's working on training right now," Jax yanked us back to the subject I wanted to avoid, "He can't just lock me up. I haven't improved in over a month so I've got to change something."

"I already have a teacher in mind for you two," I glanced down at Ethan since he was standing almost directly below my head, "Ethan needs better sparring partners as well. Just fighting me will get him used to my style of fighting when he needs to be prepared for everything."

"Who?" Jax looked irritated.

"Regala," I stated bluntly.

Savannah's eyes went wide, "She didn't just disappear?"

"She's trapped in my inner world right now," I turned more serious, "She will fade eventually, but I'll be able to summon Gaia more as earth recovers. If I had to guess Regala has anywhere from four months to a year left before she fades from this world completely."

"How would that help?" Jax argued, "Regala, and Gaia aren't human so what would they know about teaching one?"

"Regala is an ancient dragon," I stood up slowly, "And Gaia is the mother of all spirits. What are the chances of either one teaching a human at least once?" I didn't know if I was getting angry or if I just didn't like his tone, "I know for a fact that Regala has taught young dragons. I don't know if you've noticed yet, but we're short tempered impatient creatures. I'd imagine that teaching a human would be easier." I waited a few moments for that to sink in, "Enter my inner world, and let her give you a lesson. If you don't understand what she's trying to teach then we'll discuss it further. I encourage Savannah to do the same."

Savannah looked stunned for the second time today. Was it really that uncommon for me to have sound arguments, and solutions for problems.

"I still don't think its the right time for you to hatch another dragon," Savannah seemed to be coming around to the plan.

"When is the right time then?" I settled back down, "When the elves realize that dragons are making a comeback, and decide to come back for another genocide?" my gaze hardened, "I think it would be better if we had as many dragons possible before any of the other races come back to earth thinking that it's just about time to terraform the planet. Best case scenario would be to have the military, and the four greats at our back. I doubt we're going to get both."

"I know my father will never side with any archaic even if you did come from earth," Savannah laced her fingers together tensely.

"Then we should just replace him," I leaned my head down close as I peered into her eyes, "You are going to surpass him."

"No," Savannah's hands shot apart as she jumped to her feet, "I could never. I'm far to weak."

"You are my bonded Savannah," I pressured her, "I know for a fact that you are nowhere near your full potential yet. You haven't even begun to address your affinity for darkness yet, and your precision with fire has continued to increase with time."

Savannah froze. I'd just said something without thinking. I didn't even realize what I'd said or how true it was until it was out of my mouth.

"Savannah has an affinity to darkness?" Jax sounded stunned, "No human has more then one affinity."

"According to who exactly?" I turned that intense focus on him, "The memories I've gleaned from the dragon cores I've absorbed have shown humans using as many as five elements."

"Five!?!" Now he was on his feet.

Ethan had already seen most of my memories so he was the only one here that wasn't surprised.

"Sure," I shrugged, "Most of the memories come through looking like fever dreams, and fade quickly, but some facts, and impressions stick."

"And Savannah can already use two?" Jax looked at her in shock.

"She has two affinities that I can sense," I snorted, "That doesn't mean she can use them."

"We didn't even know about the unnatural elements until recently," Savannah scrunched up her eyes in thought as her hand went to her chin, "No human could possibly teach me more about one."

"So it's decided," I hmphed, "Regala will be Savannah's temporary teacher."

"What other elements do I have?" Jax asked as he looked at his own hands.

Seeming far younger then he actually was for a moment.

"I don't know," I drew my head back, and set it on top of Ethan's, "Savannah's affinity is better defined, and easier to sense. Perhaps yours haven't awakened yet? Regala would know more."

The bait was set. All that was left was for him to take it.

"I'll try talking to her," Jax crossed his arms defensively, "That doesn't mean I'll learn anything though."

Again he was acting younger then he actually was. The only thing missing was the childish pout. I knew he was trying to be defiant, but I couldn't help my internal smirk. I'd won this round, and part of me believed it would be a victory for all of us. Even if Savannah protested hatching another drakeling, I could still do it anyway.

"Now it's time to call Goliath, and inform him of our game plan going forward," I wrapped my tail around the bag that contained the magical orbs, and the phone.
