Chereads / The Archaic Dragon Mage / Chapter 348 - 6

Chapter 348 - 6

"So we don't benefit Wyatt most of the time," Ethan winced as he talked.

"Not in a physical way," I frowned.

Ethan felt more then a little disappointed.

"You do help him Ethan," I reassured the young bonded, "The amount of rage an unbonded dragon can build up is startling. A human bonded helps them regulate their emotions. Some drakelings go into a blind rage. Blacking out, and destroying everything in their path until their rage is properly satiated. Some just lash out constantly angered by everything around them. I'm sure you've seen Wyatt lash out before."

Ethan didn't look all that convinced, but I wasn't there to comfort him. I stood back up slowly. My legs trembling with the effort. I wasn't ready to fly just yet. I laid back down slowly.

Another hour here wouldn't hurt anybody. I snorted with irritation as I let the amplification Ethan gave me fade completely. I'd be able to take human form now. My mana had recovered enough to maintain it for an hour or so. I got the impression that these three didn't really like someone speaking through Wyatt's body.

I reverted to my preferred feminine form. My own body screamed in protest, but thankfully the transformation only took a few seconds. The mana clothing was already fitted to me so I didn't need to change it this time. I pulled at the earth forming a chair out of earth as I sat down. My own body looked far more bruised then theirs.

Ethan looked at me with a frown. He was upset at the damage I'd done to Wyatt's body, but he relaxed visibly. Seeing that damage on a body that didn't resemble Wyatt, and recognizing why I'd done it seemed to help him.

"Why did you kill all the dragons?" Savannah cut right to a tense subject.

"Kill them all?" I raised a brow.

"You killed them all didn't you?" Savannah was making a statement not asking a question.

"In a sense," I shrugged casually, "Sealing all the portals to earth, and preventing them from coming back to earth did result in their death."

"Why did you do it?" She pushed for an actual answer.

"Simple answer?" I cocked my head.

"Sure," she answered.

"A clean slate," I answered, "Dragon's were going down the wrong path. The only future I saw was destruction, slavery, and death." I stared off into space, "Humans had long been considered lesser then dragons. They needed time to mature. To show their worth. That way when dragon's did return they would be forced to acknowledge humans as they grew instead of growing cocky with their sense of superiority." I laced my fingers together slowly, "I did however make a grave mistake in my planning. My core was stolen, and stored on one of the dwarven planets. It should have been shielded from being detected by normal eyes, but the dwarves managed to find it." I sighed, "And my core stayed lost until the barrier failed, and the portals reopened. Extending the amount of time that dragons would be lost to far longer then I'd planned for. Allowing the dragons eggs I'd saved to petrify. The hundred drakelings I was hoping for are highly unlikely now."

"How long does it take for dragon eggs to petrify?" Ethan was standing with his hands on his knees.

"Five thousand years," I shrugged, "Give or take a few centuries. Thankfully Wyatt has a talent for magic, and was able to awaken the light element. He'll be able to revive some of them, but the chances aren't great. The dragons will be starting with a much smaller gene pool then I was hoping for."

"Wyatt's magic talent?" Ethan was the only one that looked confused.

Seems he'd gotten the wrong impression as well. I felt a wry smirk making it's way onto my face.

{The system doesn't grant Wyatt skills like he thinks it does.} I spoke to only Ethan since he was the only one aware of the system right now, {Yes it can grant him skills, but when it comes to magical aptitude it only tracks what he's already capable of.}

"Although his otherwise low intelligence, and outright stupidity is concerning," I rubbed my head.

Savannah couldn't help but laugh at that. That caused me to raise a brow again.

"I don't find it funny," I stated bluntly, "Wyatt is the future dragon king, and the first of his kind in known human history. Not only did he start with a considerable handicap with all the knowledge he was meant to have being lost due to my core degrading over time, but with an additional handicap of starting as a hatchling."

"He wasn't supposed to start as a hatchling?" Savannah stopped laughing.

"No," I leaned back in the earthen chair, and dropped my arms to my sides, "He was supposed to propelled straight into adulthood with all the knowledge required to protect himself, and a complete crown of horns." I tensed, and stood, "He's started with far less then I wanted him too. Add on his low intelligence, and I have plenty of reasons to be concerned. The fact that he was human before he became a dragon is one of the few positives."

"That actually explains a lot," Savannah was seriously considering my words now, "I would like to hear what you know of human history, and magic."

"Unfortunately I can't tell you much of history," I focused on her, "I am only a fragment of a soul. The only useful knowledge I retained was my magic, and some the events that transpired in the last year of my life. If you are lucky then I will be placed in Wyatt's inner world when he returns, and you can come discuss magic with me further while I'm there." I reverted to dragon form, "For now we should resume our return to the settlement."

"So you could teach me how to do that thing you did to cancel the priestess's spells?" She stood up stiffly with a hopeful expression.

My eyes widened with a bit of surprise. She couldn't have seen what I was doing, and her connection was weaker then Ethan's so she shouldn't have been able to sense it through me either. Her ability to sense mana had to be impressive. Perhaps she had more use then her weak mana suggested.

"Provided I'm able," I smirked, "Gladly."
