Chapter 312 - 6

Calen looked at her as he mulled over what she'd just said.

"You can't seriously be thinking of heading back," Vernon pushed, "If we head back now without laying eyes on the queen then the chances of us managing to find a guild willing to help us with this plummet. Do you want our guild to be overrun, and shut down?" Vernon paused for a moment, "If that happens every single one of the ability users we care for will be out a job. Most of them came here because they're related to other members or they couldn't afford to go anywhere else."

"If we die then you're out the strongest fighters you've got, and no one knows whats coming until it's too late," I looked at Jax with a dirty look since he'd completely missed the two beasts underneath us until they struck.

"I didn't sense them," Jax whispered when he saw my dirty look, "There are hundreds of pockets of air underneath the ground. I didn't know they were there until they started moving."

"Pay more attention," I sneered back.

"The queen's layer won't move so all we have to do is spot it," Vernon pushed again, "I don't plan on fighting anymore of those guards then we have to. I was smart enough to bring two people with movement abilities with me. Between the two of them escape should be easy."

Calen looked Vernon's group over slowly. Something about the way Vernon pushed was bothering him. You could see it in the way he looked at him.

"Fine," Calen caved, "We see anything that even resembles the queen's nest, and we're out of here. I don't care if it turns out that we're wrong later. I can't risk losing my top people with the nest so close to our base."

Vernon almost smirked. Wrong choice Calen. An image of Vernon's had getting twisted around so his head went almost all the way around popped into my head as I resisted the urge to actually kill the shit head in front of me. I looked at Savannah who was already looking at me. She shook her head.

It still wasn't time Vernon hadn't done anything that screamed traitorous back stabber yet. I cooled my temper with a few little spiders that had been rushing up on us. Turning them into a juicy version of confetti. Leaving almost nothing behind that made them recognizable as baby cat sized spiders. Only their cores managed to stay intact.

I took a second to collect the cores from the two guards as we started moving out. I was the only one who could do it quick enough to not slow us down. I'd gotten ridiculously tense from all of this bullshit acting Vernon was doing. I was beginning to think that it would be better to be surprised by the betrayal. Just Savannah knowing would have been enough for us to be prepared.

Then I wouldn't be on the edge of losing my temper since the beginning of this fight. There was a high risk of me fucking up our plans by giving myself away as someone who knows Vernon is going to betray us. Right now he might think of me as someone who just hated him for touching my pet, but my level of hatred couldn't be explained away that easily if I made the mistake of acting on it. Now all I had to do was last a little longer. Hold onto that thought.

Vernon will bail out when the risk gets high enough. It was only a matter of time before the risk became too much for him. Plus Wyatt has the space element so he could get here in a flash. I checked my mental connection to him. The connection was stretched so thin that I got barely any feedback from him, but I was getting feedback.

That alone was enough to ease some of the tension. Calming my turbulent mind as I followed at the back of the group. I figured we had about an hour left before we ran into something really dangerous. I remained cautious as we walked forward. Savannah, and Jax were almost as tense as I was.

Vernon, and his guys were the most relaxed out of everybody.

"You three are more capable then I expected," Calen glanced back at us, "Would you have been more prepared if we'd brought your dragon along?"

"We might have been able to take down the queen ourselves tonight if he was with us," Jax smirked as he answered.

"Overestimating yourselves a bit," Vernon almost chuckled despite the seriousness of the situation, "Just how powerful do you think your little pet is."

"You have no idea," Savannah smirked, "Not once since we came to this planet has he needed to use his full power. Even when he threatened you he wasn't even trying. If he had been you never would've have gotten away alive let alone uninjured." Savannah looked at Vernon, "He was just playing with you really."

Jax, and I both smirked when she said that. Proving our complete, and total trust in that statement. It was the first time since this began that Vernon looked a little worried. He hadn't seen what Wyatt was actually capable of even once, and Wyatt had grown a great deal stronger since we'd gotten here. I wasn't sure what all he could do myself.

Savannah, and I both worked well together. Easily falling in sync with each other as we moved closer to the source of all the baby spiders. The only way we could tell that we were moving closer was the number of baby spiders. We went from getting attacked by ten or twenty at a time to thirty or more at a time. Quickly approaching fifty or more at a time.

It was beginning to feel like we were constantly slicing up dozens of spiders.

"We won't be able to keep us up for much longer," Savannah flared her flames out around us.
