The white spirit calmed down after her initial outburst. None of us were willing to speak anymore out of the fear of angering her again. But I couldn't sit there, and act timid right now. I stood up with a slight snarl on my lips.
"Again," I growled, "How would it benefit me to contract you?"
The spirit actually seemed amused by my boldness. It wasn't what I was going for but I would take it.
"Right now it wouldn't benefit you," she answered bluntly, "You lack the power needed to summon me." she paused to let that sink in, "But when you do grow strong enough to summon me you will have all my strength at your disposal for a short time."
I could tell how much stronger she was than me. Even with her power suppressed it felt like there was a mountain of power looming in front of me. If I could summon something that powerful to my side it could literally turn the tide of a fight in my favor in an instant.
"What happens if I summon you, and you die?" I asked out of pure curiosity.
"Nothing much," the white spirit shrugged, "My summoning is undone, and you can't summon me for a little while."
"How long is a little while?" I asked as Savannah was mentally trying to voice her opposition.
"I'm not sure," the spirit replied, "I've been told it depends on the summoner. The dragon Queen was the only being I've ever been contracted to. She only had to wait a day before summoning me again."
"Fine," I thumped my tail to silence any argument Savannah had left, "I will be your master. How do I make you my familiar?"
"First you give me a name," she replied, "Then we exchange equal amounts of mana to create an equal contract. I must warn you though. You don't have enough mana to do even that." she dropped to the ground right in front of me, "So I will give you the mana required to name me, and form the contract. I don't want to overwhelm you so I will cycle the mana through you as you need it. It will be painful."
"I can handle pain," I shut my connection to the others, "Start with naming you then?"
"Yes," she nodded slowly.
"You're the mother of all spirits," I laid down as I thought it over.
I mulled it over for a good fifteen minutes. Thinking of a name a mother would have. Names like Mariann, Lisa, and Gothel. None really suited her all that well. Then an idea popped into my head.
I wasn't sure she would like it, but as a mother of all I thought it would suite her well.
"Gaia," I focused on her, "I think Gaia suites you best."
"Gaia?" the white spirit seemed happy with that, "Are you certain?"
"If you like it then yes," I nodded confirmation.
"Being named after mother earth," she mused, "Quite fitting."
Warning user has named god level spirit. Mana cost 10,000. Entity Gaia is willing to supplement required mana to create equal contract. Would user like to accept?
(Yes) (No)
Yes. If she's offering it would be stupid to refuse.
Warning there will be pain as a side affect of this mana exchange.
I know. Do it. Pain hit me like a truck. I gritted my teeth, but hardly showed any external sign of being in pain after that. Gaia on the other hand underwent a complete change in appearance.
Her skin became like perfectly smoothed soil as bark like growths covered all of her feminine spots like a one piece bathing suit. Hair like thin vines with flowers grew from her head. Wristlets made of fire appeared, and anklets made of lightning spun towards each other on her ankles. A mouth, and nose formed on her previously formless face. She smiled at me with her teeth white as snow, and her eyes formed colored irises the color of glacial ice with no visible pupil.
Her body then became even more refined giving her the appearance of a beautiful mid thirties woman with brown skin, and green vine hair that had flowers growing throughout its knee length beauty. Yet her appearance still managed to feel motherly, and not swimsuit model like I expected.
"You didn't tell me your appearance would change," I exclaimed as the pain I was feeling faded.
"You didn't ask," she smiled wryly as she summoned a sheet of ice to view her new appearance, "Spirits take the form that their summoner imagines when they name them."
"So you look like this because this is what I thought you would look like?" I laid down too tired to actually care if she answered.
"Yes," she smiled at me gently, "Not quite what I was expecting, but I will give you credit for such a human form. You have quite the vivid imagination to picture it so clearly. I barely had to refine the image at all."
Congratulations user. You have successfully contracted your first familiar.
New spell unlocked. Spirit summon Gaia. Cost 20,000 mana Plus 2 mana per minute to maintain summoning. Cost is halved when user is on earth due to Gaia's willing submission.
I can have more than one familiar?
Yes. Although it is not recommended. Summoning more than one or two familiars is highly mana inefficient.
Ok that's good to know I guess. I already had enough on my plate just with my bonded to deal with. Now. I snapped my head over to Jax, and reopened my connection to my bonded. What to do with him?
"Come here Jax," I tried to relax, "You, and I have to talk."
Jax looked nervous as he approached me. He kept throwing nervous glances over to Gaia, but she was clearly preoccupied with examining her new appearance.
"Don't look at her," I thumped my tail on the floor to punctuate the sentence, "Look at me."
