Chereads / The Archaic Dragon Mage / Chapter 235 - 6

Chapter 235 - 6

I didn't know what had happened with Wyatt, but I knew that our bond had gotten stronger while he was out. They captured him, and took him away. Afterward Ethan, and I were questioned thoroughly. Ethan hardly spoke at all. He seemed almost shell shocked by Wyatt's capture.

After three days of no sleep, and constant questioning we were sent back to classes. It was kept secret for the most part, but word had long since gotten around the school abut the two of us allying with an Archaic. Our watches were taken, and we were stripped of any responsibilities. Tossed in our rooms, and then kept under lock, and key. Students would stand outside our windows, and hold up signs that said all sorts of horrible things.

I didn't know how long we'd be locked up like this. My muscles tensed up as I stared out the window. These people really had no idea who Wyatt was or they would have kept their traps shut. Wyatt was not just another Archaic. If anyone was brave enough to actually bother asking what Wyatt had done or digging up the recording they'd find out that Wyatt had saved just as many lives as the two greats that were at the tournament.

Why couldn't anyone take the time to figure out that he wasn't an enemy? Those stupid assholes never bothered to treat him as the kind creature he really was. Most of the time. I could tell that Wyatt was awake now. I could sense most of what he was feeling.

He wasn't afraid or being hurt in any way, but he was agitated by our absence. There was only so much I could do in a situation like this though. Goliath probably had it worse then the two of us. Having a high ranking officer like him not only side with an Archaic, but actively verbally defend him. Once the council came together it was only a matter of time before they sentenced him to death.

A little over a week passed before we were summoned to testify. I was determined to make them understand just how beneficial Wyatt was to the human cause. My body tensed as I thought about it all. This would be a difficult task. It would only be so long until everything I said was ignored.

I needed to plan out my opening presentation well. If I wasn't careful I'd say something that would shut them down, and I wouldn't know what to do anymore. I didn't know what was going to happen in the future, but if I managed to keep Wyatt alive then he'd more than prove his worth on his own without my assistance. I just needed to give him the opportunity to prove it. He'd shed his scales twice now.

If his scales had managed to retain half of the strength they had when they were on him would make them quite valuable as a crafting material. Even if he was only used as a crafting material source. I didn't know what would happen in the future if I managed to convince them of what I wanted. Even if it was only a few months. It would give him the chance he needed to prove himself.

If he he lived for an extra six months then that was six months more he had to prove himself. I couldn't do any research online since our online privilege's were revoked. The tension that ran through me as I sat on the witness stand waiting for the questions to start. Ethan was next to me, but he was hesitating under the eyes of so many. Most of them were just holograms, but there were about a dozen that were actually there.

Ethan wouldn't be speaking much here so I would need to take the lead on this one. I wanted to push them the direction of allowing Wyatt to live. Even if it was just as a resource.

"How long did you know that Wyatt Nix was a disguised Archaic?" Jacob asked.

"About six months," I answered, "Not once in those entire six months did he try to attack or harm me in any way."

"That wasn't what I asked," Jacob looked at me funny, "Ethan Burk. How long did you know that Wyatt Nix was an Archaic?"

Ethan just stared at his hands on the desk.

"Burk," Jacob slapped the table, "How long did you know?"

"Nine months," Ethan flinched at the sound.

"Three months longer than Savannah?" Jacob touched his chin as if the information was interesting, "How did you find out that Nix was an Archaic?"

"He was severely wounded when two students attacked him," Ethan said in a rush as the words tumbled out of his mouth, "He lost control of his transformation."

"How did you find out Miss Earl?" Jacob turned his attention back to me.

"He saved my life," I stately bluntly, mostly for effect, "We fell through an unstable rift into the sky of another world. Wyatt chose to save me instead of preserving his secret. Then he protected me until we were rescued a few days later."

"What is this bond that he formed with you?" Jacob asked me.

"It's a mental link that allows us to sense each others emotions," I didn't like that he brought this up so quickly, "And if the other linked party is in danger."

"Are there any other effects to this bond?" Jacob pushed for more.

"I'm not sure," I lied, "I don't know the limitations of what the bond can do since we still don't know what the limit of this bond is."

"Has he ever killed a human being for any reason?" Jacob asked the question I was avoiding.

"Yes," I tensed under the glare of all the people there, "But it was..."

"So he has killed?" Jacob stopped me before I could continue.

"He did it to..." He cut me off with a sharp glare.

"Those men were known poachers," Goliath's voice cut the quiet tension with ease, "They attempted to ransom, and kill both Wyatt, and Miss Earl. It was understandable for him to fight back."
