"Let him go?" the wind great turned to look at the newcomer, "Do you have any idea what you're saying Savannah?"
"He only came down to protect Ethan," Savannah continued as if she hadn't heard him at all, "He's not that dangerous."
"Not that dangerous!" the wind great would have stood up if he hadn't remembered that he was still pinning me down, "If he'd managed to catch one of us off guard he could have killed us."
"And yet the first thing he did when he got down here was heal Ethan," Savannah argued.
I was only half listening to them. Now that my head was free I could crane my neck enough to look skyward. I could sense the space being manipulated as well as the mana gathering around the spot the rift would open. Ethan was still down. Savannah wasn't strong enough to be of much help, and the only people who could really help were busy trying to decide on how to kill me.
Then there was the massive audience in the stands that still thought that this whole performance might be a part of the show.
"Tie me up if that's what you want," I growled, "But get these people out of here while you're doing it."
"Shut up," Air great gave me another shot to the back of the head.
"Idiot," I mumbled, "There's a rift opening over our heads, and you're more worried about showing me who's boss."
"He's right," the water great interrupted him before he could yell at me again, "I can sense the mana disturbance in the air."
This stunned the air great, and I took advantage of it. I freed both my hands with a sharp yank, and shoved myself up. Throwing the air great off of me, and getting to my feet. I skittered away from him quickly so I could turn to face them. I held my hands up, and kept them up.
"Look," I took a few more steps back, "We have less than a minute until that rift opens, and since the rifts are supposed to be restricted away from here." pause for effect, "I don't think we'll like what comes through."
"Then we'll just have to kill you before it opens so we only have one threat to deal with," the air great started gathering his mana.
As he raised his hand to shoot an attack at me Savannah stepped between us.
"Can you tell how powerful the rift is Wyatt?" Savannah stared at the air great while asking, "How big it will be?"
I looked back up at the rift that was forming, and focused on it. Letting my space element feel it out.
"Big enough for a bus to come through sideways," I snapped my eyes back on her, "Someone is fueling it from the other side. This isn't a natural rift. Someone is opening it here on purpose."
Savannah turned to look at me with a stunned look of fear on her face, "Are you sure?"
I nodded just once. My eyes were drawn to the air great behind her.
"Fifteen seconds left," I looked at the people in the stands around us.
New emergency quest.
Save civilians from the oncoming attack.
Reward 100 XP per civilian successfully evacuated.
More incentive to save the people in here. I was planning on saving them anyways, but now I get a reward for it.
"No more time," I channeled a large amount of mana into my arms, and shot lightning at the barrier before shouting while using air to amplify my voice, "If you can't fight get out of here right now, because all hell is about to break loose."
My lightning died down just in time for a massive rift to boom into existence. The lightning show had made them all pay attention to what I had to say so when they saw the rift boom into existence they started screaming, and running for the exits.
"Can you use your water to make sure they don't clog up the exits?" I looked at the water great.
"Are you ordering us around now?" the air great snapped angrily.
"That's enough," the water great started gathering all the water in the arena, "This little Archaic wants me to evacuate the civilians so he can fight with you."
"Why would I want..." he shut up when brightly colored bird like creatures started flying through the rift.
"It doesn't matter what you want," I dropped my hands, and started forming water cyclones off the tips of my fingers, "I'm all you've got for now. Savannah." I focused on her, "Get Ethan out of here. I won't be able to fight freely while protecting you both."
"I can help," Savannah started to argue.
"No," My mana lashed out sending a wave of air at her, "You're too weak. You'll just get in the way."
"But," Savannah started again with a much quieter voice.
"Ethan's out cold right over there," I gestured, "Getting him out of here is helping."
"Wyatt..." Savannah started.
"Not now Savannah," I snapped.
Savannah felt a little hurt by my tone, but she listened, and that was all that mattered at the moment. I sent one of my water cyclones after her to circle around her, and help keep her that much safer. Keeping the other for myself as I launched lightning at some of the massive tropical bird things. They were fast, but not particularly strong. I could take out two or three at once with a single lightning bolt if they were close enough to each other.
They couldn't outrun my lightning. I was getting better at changing the direction of the lightning in the air, and my marksmanship skill was maxed out. I hadn't realized that shooting lightning counted as marksmanship. The number of birds coming through the rift slowed down suddenly, and the sound of a much larger set of wings started coming through the rift. Then the massive bulk of a wyvern came through the rift through the rift.
