Chapter 219 - Ethan's not allowed to fail

"What do you mean?" Savannah looked concerned.

"Ethan's terrified of failure," I thumped my tail on the floor, "I think he might fear failing more than he fears people now."

"What makes you think that?" Savannah asked.

"I've been trying to fix his people problems," I tapped the floor with my claws, "But there are other problems he's been keeping from me. I don't know what other issues he's buried."

"If he doesn't want to tell you then he won't," Savannah looked at me funny, "You can't force him to trust you more."

"I don't want to force him," I thumped my tail to punctuate my statement, "I want to help him. Hard to do that efficiently without knowing what's going on."

"Just let him do things at his own pace," Savannah smiled at my irritation, "Our bond advanced too fast, and I think it's affected us negatively."

"That's what you think of it?" I snorted.

"Yeah," Savannah shrugged, "Our bond is way more unstable then yours, and Ethan's."

"I can't argue with that," I still didn't like it.

She was right, but I still didn't like it. I huffed as I clicked on the hollo screen. I didn't know what I would do about Ethan. I wanted him to trust me enough to tell me what happened to make him the way he was. Savannah chuckled at me when I focused on the hollo screen.

"What?" I gave her a sideways glance.

"Just watching a magical creature watching hollo screens like any normal person would," Savannah chuckled again.

"You can take the bedroom," I snorted, "I'll sleep out here." I thought about it for a second, "Where did you sleep the last few days anyways?"

"I paid for a room out of my allowance," Savannah smiled, "I reserved them a few weeks ago when you said you guys wanted to participate in the tournament. I figured you'd drop out as soon as you got a good safe spot in the top ten, and Ethan prefers hanging out with you so I could stay in his pre reserved room until then."

"Don't I lose this room in the morning?" I perked up a little now that I remembered I would be losing the room.

"I fixed that already," Savannah smiled, "Call it a going away present."

"I still think you should come with me," I frowned without taking my eyes off the screen.

"You know I can't," Savannah frowned.

It hurt when she said she couldn't to things. Her father really had her on a tight leash. Seemed like she had more freedom when school was in session than the rest of the time. I honestly thought it would be good for her to get away from her father. I was certain that she would be better off if she got away from that angry father of hers.

We watched whatever was on until I fell asleep sometime later. I woke up to Savannah grabbing me by the horns, and shaking my head. I snorted, and shook her off of me.

"Do I really need to be awake at..." I glanced down at my watch, "... seven in the morning? Why did you wake me up this early?"

"I've been up for over an hour," Savannah smirked as she sat on the couch, "Got tired of watching you sleep."

"That's so nice of you," I replied sarcastically.

"Do you want to play a game of chess?" Savannah smirked at me.

"I'm already awake so why not?" I replied grumpily.

Savannah pulled up a holographic chessboard.

"Black or white?" she waited for me to choose first.

I glanced down at my own hands, "What do you think?"

"Black it is," Savannah selected white, and made the first move.

We played for about an hour before I lost.

"Rematch?" Savannah smiled, and reset the pieces with a click.

"Sure," I didn't really care for the game, "Why not? Worst that can happen is I lose again."

We played one more game before deciding it was time to head out. We got ourselves some good spots at the front of crowd. There'd be three matches today. The third, and forth spot matches. Then a half hour break.

Followed by the mage match that Ethan wanted. I started scanning the VIP boxes for this brother Ethan hated, and feared so much. The only mages I could sense in the entire arena were in the VIP area. I spotted three mages in the VIP area. Two that were obviously the water, and wind greats.

The third I could only see the third using infrared. I focused on the fight as Baron started pounding his opponent into the dust. Using his hardened body to tank all his opponents hits, and dishing out twice the damage.

{Crush Baron when you get to him} I smirked slowly.

{I'll try} Ethan replied hesitantly.

It took Baron a little over an hour to secure his victory. I was tired of watching him to start with. Having the fight drag out sucked the joy right out of watching the fight. My muscles tensed as I debated on getting up to go get snacks while Baron was still fighting. Anything to keep me from being stuck staring at this boring, and predictable fight. I relaxed when Baron knocked out his opponent.

"Finally," I waited for them to leave.

Baron limped out, and his opponent was floated out of there on a stretcher. Ethan crushed his opponent in less than five minutes. Physical ability users were useless against Ethan. Just a bad matchup. They announced the three hour break, and started playing highlights while commenting on them.

I stood up, and looked at Savannah.

"I feel like getting some steak," I smirked, "You want to come with?"

"Nope," Savannah shook her head, "I'm feeling like salad."

"You're just saying that because you don't like seeing me eat," I joked as I turned to leave.

She nodded in agreement.

"Wow," I almost laughed, "I'm offended."
