"What do you mean cut off?" I felt my eyes go wide, "I didn't notice anything. Savannah's here."
"Yeah," Ethan went to the door, and opened it, "But I was cut off."
"You talking about that complete absence of our mental bond," Savannah closed the door behind her.
"You were cut off too?" Ethan looked at her.
"Complete silence from our bond," Savannah frowned.
"I didn't loose connection," I raised my scales slowly, "It had to have been that thing."
"What thing?" Savannah snapped.
"Something forced a connection with me last night," I felt my wings twitching, "It wanted to have a conversation with me for some reason."
"Forced a conversation?" Ethan frowned, "What could possible force you into a conversation?"
"Something far more powerful than me," I frowned, "Just be glad it only wanted to talk to me. If it had wanted something else, I'm sure it would've gotten it."
"It must have stopped us from hearing you while it was communicating with you," Savannah looked thoughtful, "So that we couldn't find you if you'd tried to reach out. Do you know what connected to you?"
"No clue," I snorted, "I haven't exactly interacted with many magical creatures over the years. Oh wait. I haven't been around any magical creatures until the last couple months."
"You don't have to be so sarcastic," Savannah frowned.
"Whatever that thing did to talk to me cut me off from you without me noticing at all," I debated on gathering up my clothes, "That bugs me hugely. It could have flat out killed me without me noticing anything off at all."
Savannah, and Ethan both looked disturbed by this revelation. I pulled my door closed. If we kept talking about this we'd be running late. I switched forms, and pulled fresh clothes on. I stepped into the common area calmly.
"You're just going to act like nothing happened?" Savannah saw me dressed for school, and frowned at me.
"What choice do I have?" I scratched the back of my head, "If I act freaked out then people will notice. If I try to confront this entity then I'll exhaust my mana just trying to find it. That doesn't include actually fighting it. This thing is so much more powerful than me that it could have killed me if it wanted to already," I shook my head slowly as I walked past them, "So I'll focus on what I can deal with for now. Instead of what might happen."
I walked out of the room. Heading straight to my first class without waiting. I sat down towards the back like always, and waited for Ethan to catch up and sit next to me like always. I crossed my arms, and leaned back in my seat. I wasn't in the mood for any smack talk or arguments today.
Being reminded of just how weak I was just ruined the mood for me. I noticed a couple kids looking at me funny. I ignored them. Ethan came in, and sat next to me quietly about the time quiet whispers started spreading throughout the classroom. As the whispers spread I became more, and more irritated.
The teacher tried to silence the class, but the whispers started back up a few minutes later. The teacher was also slowly getting angrier, and angrier as the class continued whispering. About halfway through he slammed a textbook on his desk. The room went silent.
"What are you whispering about?" he yelled angrily.
No one spoke up.
"You couldn't shut up a minute ago," his anger went up a little, "Start talking or every last one of you is going to run a hundred laps."
"Wyatt has a red watch now," one of the students towards the front spoke up, "And his level jumped to twelve."
The teacher just stood there silently for a few minutes.
"Nix," he looked at me, "Show me this red watch."
I raised my hand slowly. Turning my wrist so that the watch face was facing the teacher.
"You really do have a red watch," the teacher motioned for me to put my hand down, "So you have a natural mutation. Must be pretty strong to jump eight levels."
"I don't want to tell you what my ability is," I frowned, "So don't ask."
The teacher looked frustrated, but he turned back to continue the lesson. The dead silence from the students around me was so nice. I almost smirked. Ethan didn't seem to like me smug. I didn't really care.
I liked being left alone for once. It wouldn't last. It was only a matter of time before word of this whole event spread like wildfire. I'd be in Goliath's class for the last class of the day, and in my room after that. I didn't think I would have much to worry about.
The second class actually went smoother than the first one. By then word about my red watch had gotten around. No one so much as looked at me funny until I got to Goliath's combat class. Luckily for me today was technique training, and not combat. I couldn't help, but be somewhat worried about the stronger students in this class.
Some of them actually made my sense of danger act up. Sometimes I forgot just how many people out there were still stronger than me. My body tensed as I readied myself for the fight that might be coming. Goliath noticed my tension, but let it slide since I wasn't causing any problems. He looked like he was thinking about coming over to see how I was doing, but decided against it.
No one would try anything while Goliath was watching so that let me relax a little. Although it didn't do much for me since Goliath was one of the people that set off my danger sense. I figured there were at least four students in this class that could kill me if they wanted to. I couldn't think about that right now though. If I overstressed myself I would break my camouflage again so I let myself focus on each, and every movement in the combat moves that Goliath was showing us as he walked around the class correcting technique.
