That error. I used some dirt to wipe off the blood from my face, and ran back to Savannah. I didn't want to go back to her bloody. My wings twitched. They wanted to be used, but I wasn't entirely sure I knew how to use them.
I jumped out of the trees, and landed next to Savannah. Savannah startled despite the fact that she knew I was coming. I took my pants from her, and looked at Savannah. Savannah held up my shirt so she couldn't see me anymore. I stared at her a few seconds then looked down at my pants.
"Do you know what it looks like when they're tracking our watches?" I waited for Savannah's answer.
"It blinks," Savannah lowered my shirt so she could look at me, "Sends out a ping once every five minutes. When its active."
"Why isn't it active all the time?" I looked at my watch skeptically.
"Not enough power," Savannah bunched up my shirt, "It can only ping our people for about six hours once it's active. It loses an hour worth of pings every day that we're out here."
"So they'll come looking for us sooner rather than later?" I looked down at my watch, "So no blinking means we're not being pinged, and no one is coming yet."
I grabbed my shirt. Bunching it up with my pants, and stuffing them in my bag together.
"Keep an eye on that watch," I picked up my bag, and dropped it between my wings, "Let me know if it blinks so I can switch."
Savannah nodded. I turned, and we kept moving. The trees spread out more, and we saw more, and more brush popping up between the trees. I released my murderous intent full force whenever anything came close. Savannah was protected from it now that she was bonded to me.
We strolled through the woods calmly. I stayed a few steps ahead of her. I could see in infrared. Savannah couldn't see as far as me either. It just made sense for me to be in the lead.
I spotted human like shapes ahead. I flicked my tail up in front of Savannah.
"What is it?" Savannah asked.
"I think I see humans," I switched my color to more of a camo color, "We should be careful though. It could just be some sort of Archaic."
I tuned my coloration to the color of the bushes around me.
"That's a neat trick," Savannah whispered.
I got moving again. Slowly heading towards the human shaped heat signatures. Savannah stayed close on my heels.
"You know," Savannah whispered, "In some stories, dragons would let people ride them."
"I'm tired too," I glanced back at her, "I'm not giving you a ride."
We closed on human shaped heat signatures slowly. They were walking calmly. They had some sort of haul with them that I could see between the trees. We both sucked in our mana so that we wouldn't be sensed. I was starting to catch glimpses of them through the trees.
We would be on them in less than an hour.
"Are they human?" Savannah whispered.
"I need to get a good look at them," I crouched low to the ground, "Stay a little further back from me."
I sped up. Heading off ahead of her quietly. She wasn't bad at sneaking around, but I was better especially in my real body. Savannah fell back a good distance. I poked my head out of the bushes carefully.
As close as I was now I didn't want to draw unwanted attention. I confirmed that the people in front of me now were in fact human. They had a large haul of beast parts, and crystals from the look of it. I didn't like them. I backed back into the bushes, and made my way back to Savannah as quickly as I could without making noise.
"Were they human?" Savannah was waiting intently for my reply.
"Yes," I looked back their direction.
Savannah was already moving towards them.
"Savannah wait," I chased after her carefully.
I was dead if I got spotted, but the moment Savannah had heard that they were human she was on the move.
"Hey," Savannah yelled as soon as she was in their line of sight.
"Idiot," I pulled my bag off my back, and switched.
I pulled my clothes out of my bag, and pulled them on quickly. I didn't have much time. As far as I could tell Savannah was already with those people I'd spotted, and I didn't like them. The fact that I wasn't wearing any shoes explained why I was moving so slow. I rushed after Savannah.
I was running on empty with that second transformation. Savannah was already happily chatting away. I was slower to approach.
"Savannah," I called out to her.
Pretending that I didn't see her with them until I was pretty much on top of the group was difficult.
"Wyatt," Savannah smiled at me, "They're headed back to their camp. They said they'll look after us once we get back to their camp."
"I'm sure they will," I stared at the man that looked like he was in charge.
"Cocky kid," the guy Savannah was next to chuckled, "Especially for a two with no gear on."
"Why would you care what our levels are?" I looked at Savannah carefully.
"Come on kid," the guy next to Savannah walked up to me slowly, "You can ride in the cart. No way you can keep up on foot with no shoes."
"I'd rather not owe you people anything," I stepped back towards the trees.
"We'll just be taking care of you for a little while until your people come to pick you up," the leader finally spoke up, "You'll be safe with us."
"We haven't been pinged yet Savannah," I looked at her pleadingly, "If this was a military planet we would have been pinged by now. No military escort Savannah."
Savannah looked back at his group. The wheels turned in her head. She looked at each man carefully. She started to step away from the group slowly.
"Grab her," The leader yelled, "Kill the other one."
