Chapter 46 - Divination

Returning home, the first thing that Bai Shuixian did was to jump up on the tallest branch of the tree. Though she could still get a good view of the stars from ground level, it was easier to see the stars when going on higher ground. Not only that, it was a hot summer so the nights were not cold like usual but instead hot and humid.

By standing on the trees up high, Bai Shuixian could get a good feel of the cool breeze from the wind. When divining, the best thing to do to prepare was to get in the best condition that she could. Otherwise, the divination could end in failure and she could even harm herself.

As she stared at the stars and read them, her silver eyes lighted up and reflected the patterns of the stars. A normal person's eyes at this moment would only see bright shining stars, but what Bai Shuixian saw at this moment was completely different. A star could share colors with others, sizes with others, but it would always have a few different traits that popped out.

It was these traits that told her what the coming future would be like. The more colors Bai Shuixian saw in the night sky, the more chaos it represented. If there were two differentiating colors next to each other like red and blue, it meant that there was going to be a huge war occurring soon.

If a gigantic star was standing next to a smaller star, it could represent that a country was going to swallow another or that someone was protecting a younger child. All it needed were the colors to differentiate the meanings as some stars held more than one color. After all, all the stars represented the soul of an individual.

At this moment, what Bai Shuixian wanted to know though was the connection between her and Duan Guiren. By using her powers, she was able to spot which star represented the little boy. When she found his star, she noticed that the star was five colored and very small.

Duan Guiren's star was so small that no one would notice unless they had her powers. However, the outstanding part out of the entire thing was that this little tiny five colored star was right next to her star. Bai Shuixian's star was gigantic and brightly colored with rainbows.

Seeing the color and position it had in the sky, Bai Shuixian was then able to confirm that Duan Guiren indeed had a fate with her. She was not sure what his fate was exactly, but since his star looked almost like her's, it meant that she had to guide and mentor him. In the end, whether the star would stand next to her, replace her's, or fall would only be known in the future.

Of course, she could also exert a lot more energy and see the movement of the stars, but she would be in a deep sleep for at least a year or more depending on how much she exerted. She was not fond of the idea, so she would naturally not do that. Anyhow, it did not matter whether this would be a good thing or a bad thing since she had no role in history.

Finished with the divination, Bai Shuixian closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When the colors reflecting from the sky disappeared from them, she finally opened her eyes and jumped down from the tree. At the same time, just before she was about to enter the house, she looked at the sky again just to make sure she was illusioning something.

Once she entered the entry room, she shouted loudly, "Jin-gege, I just divined something, so I won't be awake for a few days. Don't enrage my brothers and sisters while I'm sleeping."

Zhu Jin heard her voice, but decided to ignore it and not respond. How could she tell him not to enrage them? It should be asking them to not enrage him and treat him like a slave.

However, he could only shake his head because he knew that retribution would come sooner than expected if he said anything negative about them. Whether it came from those personas in her or whether it came from her herself. No matter who it came from, it was torture on him.

After entering her room, Bai Shuixian did not immediately go to sleep but asked Lu Lianhua a question instead.

"Lian-gege, I saw another star. It looked strange. Different. Hm… I don't know how to describe it," she said.

"What did it look like?" Lu Lianhua asked her while he settled her on a bed in their dimension.

[A/N: I still don't know what to call the persona's space, so I keep on going from their world, to their dimension. Sorry. I think I'll settle on their deep mind space in the future? I don't know. Help me choose a name.]

"It was not smaller than my star, but it was not bigger. It didn't outshine me, but I didn't outshine it either. It carried the same colors as mine, but it was much lighter… much dimmer… It's as though it's there to just stand beside me and look on," Bai Shuixian answered.

"Look on?" Lu Lianhua repeated questionly.

Nodding sleepily, Bai Shuixian explained, "Though I attracted attention, maybe this star looks like me but different, it attracts more attention. There are lots of red stars surrounding this star. And… a lot of the stars that used to surround me are going to that star instead. Say… Lian-gege, what does this mean?"

"Xiao Xian, you can think about it when you wake up. Even if I tell you now, you will forget," Lu Lianhua dodged.

"Oh, you're right. Then, I'll ask again when I wake up," Bai Shuixian agreed with no suspicions.

Agreeing, Lu Lianhua then said, "Goodnight. Have a good sleep, Xiao Xian."

As she closed her eyes, Xuan Yueji took control of her physical body. As soon as he did, her white hair turned black and her silver eyes also turned black. Back then, it took a while before changing according to the persona, but now it only took a second because of the increase in cultivation on the body.

Leaving the room, Xuan Yueji went to Zhu Jin's and announced, "I need to get back to the capital. Don't let anyone know that Bai Shuixian lives here or that she exists at all."

"Don't worry. I know," Zhu Jin replied.

After receiving a reply, Xuan Yueji left the tree and used qinggong to travel to the capital. Right now, he was in a sixteen year old body with a tiny frame, but he was skilled in martial arts and he planned on using this to join the military. He did not care for politics or such, but he had a natural thirst for blood and the only way that he could quench that thirst was to join the military.

Xuan Yueji never knew why he had a natural taste for blood, but he had always been killing bandits, assassins, and more in order to stay calm. Other times, he would kill animals for Bai Shuixian and this would help too. As long as there was blood being shed, it would calm him down.

However, lately, his blood thirst has been on the rise and he needed another way to calm himself down. In their dimension, he had no deep feelings for blood, but once he possessed the body, it was another story. With this condition, he had to find a legal way to kill people lawfully without causing suspicions.

When he traveled to the capital, it took less than a day and only a few minutes despite the village being hundreds of miles away. This was all thanks to Bai Shuixian's body being trained to stay lightweight and Xuan Yueji's martial skills. With the two combines, he was capable of moving nimbly and quickly without others being able to see him.

Despite Bai Shuixian having no parents, she still had Su Guang and this came in Xuan Yueji's favor. Not only that, he was glad that he had decided to have Chen Shi take care of the old lady. Due to his request back then, he now had a connection to the Chen family which held lots of power.

With this power, Xuan Yueji could enter the military without having to do all the complicated things such as providing identity as a citizen of the empire. Not only that, with Chen Shi behind him, he could choose to enter whichever war he wanted to and get out whenever he wanted to. The freedom that he was granted with at this time made him prideful of himself.

As it was night time, the Chen residence was asleep like any other residence. However, Chen Shi had a hobby for working so he stayed in his studies until late into the morning and did not get up from his bed until it was lunchtime. To say, he was nocturnal though he got up once in a while to discuss matters when the emperor called for him.

Slipping through the gates and doors, Xuan Yueji quietly opened the door of Chen Shi's study and greeted, "Hey."
