As Casen uncovered Azemo's eyes Azemo could see the hideout of Lleh. They seemed to be in some sort of underground bunker as the walls were made of rough stone and only the dim light of a single candle illuminated the space.
"Sorry that no one is here to greet you. One of our cardinal rules is that we should not know the faces and voices of our comrades. Me and you are an exception since we met before we joined."
It made sense to Azemo that an underground group of rebels would try to hide their identities so he didn't answer Casen.
"Damn so cold. Anyways I think that the boss left a recording for you somewhere around here."
Casen moved to a messy desk and shuffled papers around. After a few minutes he walked back to Azemo with a small device in his hand.
Casen pressed a button and a figure made out of neon lights popped up. Azemo thought that the device was how Behirite imagined a smartphone would be. Obviously Behirite had no idea what a smartphone was so the comparison was rather shoddy.
As Azemo was thinking dumb thoughts he realized something. The figure in the device was a woman and he could clearly see her auburn hair and scarred face. The woman exuded a friendly aura of power but all Azemo could think about was how she broke one of her own cardinal rules.
"Uhh I can clearly see what she looks like. What is up with that?"
"Oh my god, she probably forgot to put the filter on. I guess you know what our leader looks like so please don't tell."
Azemo was a little worried about the organization since it's leader was this much of an airhead but decided to keep his mouth shut. It looked to him like Casen idolized the woman.
"Hello my name is Sareth… I mean my code name is desert one." Azemo could see Casen face palming out of the corner of his eye. Apparently Sareth was the woman's real name.
"Lleh is an organization created to free the oppressed demon kind and take down the tyrannical human government. Most of the people you see everyday are actually demons that are using some sort of disguise skill."
Azemo was a bit surprised by this information but he did his best to keep listening.
"We believe that the humans either brainwashed most of the demons or the humans have some kind of device that can force a demon to look like a human. Our main objective right now is to find some sort of counter to whatever it is that controls demon kind."
Azemo realized that obviously Behirite would create some sort of problem between demons and humans. In her time humans were the biggest threat to demons and there was no way she would make a world where the goal was to help humans.
'I have been looking at this all wrong.' Since Azemo had been human in his previous life the distinction between demon and human was not very defined.
"The reason we brought you into Lleh is mainly because of your job. We have reason to believe that the governor has some kind of information on the oppression of demon kind in his house and you as his walker are our best shot at getting it."
Casen hurriedly said to Azemo. "We also wanted you because you are very capable, the alley fight proved that, and because you were flaunting your demon looks down on the surface."
"Okay I have given you your mission, Casen will outfit you, Sareth… desert one out."
Casen just shook his head before turning to Azemo. "Do you think you can do the job?"
"Most likely but it might take some time. You see my job never really takes me into the governor's house."
Casen ignored the last part of Azemo's statement and instead said. "Alright let's get you kitted out." He led Azemo over to another table and started reading a list.
"You get three daggers, a communicator and one more item of your choosing."
Casen handed over three plain black, square handles and a small circular piece of metal. The circular thing was obviously the communicator and Casen explained that it would be connected with him and the boss so that Azemo could record things and send it to them.
Azemo listened to Casen but he could barely contain his excitement when he pushed a button on one of the handles and a bright, phantom, neon blade appeared. He had finally got his hands on one of the special weapons of the Kaclzan.
"Alright come choose the last item you want. We have an item that can record a skill and cast it at a certain time, we have a boomerang that always comes back no matter what, we have boots that make no noise when you walk." Casen continued to rattle off descriptions for many more items. Most of them seemed pretty useful and good for infiltration or combat.
However the one that stuck out to Azemo was the item that could record a skill because it would solve a major problem for him.
He could use it as an alarm clock!
Yes, instead of getting something that would be able to help him get stronger he chose an alarm clock.
"Are you sure you want this item. It can only ever record one skill and play that same skill over and over."
"Yes, that is perfect."
Casen handed over the object, it was a small, smooth, pocket watch shaped metal circle.
As soon as he got it Azemo programmed the object with (skill) Alarm. (skill) Alarm: user can wake up and alert selected creatures. It was a basic level skill that Azemo had gotten for guard duty when he was part of the demon army.
Azemo programmed the object so that it would cast (skill) Alarm everyday at sunrise. Now he would never be late for work.
After he finished programming the device the Soul Essence of Behirite spoke up in his head.
"You can choose either to use items you receive in this world while you are a citizen of Kaclzan or you can add them to your rewards after you complete my quest. I will allow you to use one item in this world and keep it afterwards."
Azemo did not hesitate and he chose to use his alarm clock in Kaclzan and receive it as a reward. As for his other new gear he decided to only add one dagger to his reward.
The dagger he chose to add as his reward vanished into thin air before Behirite spoke up again.
"By the way, if you fail my quest you get zero rewards, not even the stuff you collected."
Azemo shook his head and noticed for the first time a poster of an old man. "Why do you have a poster of an old man on the wall?"
"That is the chief scientist of the humans and we have marked him as one of our main enemies. One of our operatives managed to set a trap for him but somehow he escaped and is still at large."
Azemo tried to keep his face deadpan. The poster was obviously a picture of the old man he had helped on his way to Crnst.
'Probably best that I keep this information to myself.'
