After a couple of hours of surfing the web, I figured it was time to reconnect. 5 hours is over 2 days in-game so the meat should be smoked and hide preserved even if it is at low quality and won't last long. heading to the living room I climb into the cabin once again and lay back into it feeling the familiar sting at the back of the neck before a slight tug on my concessions brings me into the sign-in menu.
Once loaded into the game I take a minute to stretch my sore body since while logged out the body remains and is still technically alive it will start to ache from lack of movement. After eating real quick I head out to check on the smokehouse and hide seeing everything where I left it was a relief cause the possibility of someone finding the area is possible while I'm offline. first checking on the meat I'm glad to see that it's not rotten and smells pretty good ill leave it in there for a few more days to smoke some more can't hurt right. looking over the fur pelts they seem fine not writing or anything so I decided to roll them up and place them onto the bed using the 2 deer skins as a sort of mattress that covers the rope net I made the wolf pelt will eventually be turned into a pillow or used got something else and I'll use the bear pelt for a blanket placing it all down in finally greeted by a pop-up window asking if I would like to make this my respawn point.
Clicking confirm a new option shows up, it's a citizen management system all it allows me to do is hire AI or NPC to act as employees and military personnel it's just up to me to train them and house them. it seems I can hire a single NPC at the moment since I only have a single bed. looking over the cost to here on it seems they all come untrained but I have to categories to chose from laborer and military. Regular citizens can come and go depending on how your city or base is doing based on the quality of life so you don't always have to purchase to hire people to grow a base or city.
Though any employee or military personnel do require payments and it uses real money to do so you can deposit money in-game and withdraw at any time so it seems trading with other players and the economy is part of the game it's just a way for people to spend and make money as well as grow without the need of a large player force backing you. shrugging my shoulders I go ahead and pay the 5000 a month for the employee and hire him. It would be nice to have someone to help out gathering recourses and build things I've already figured out how to do.
Over time they are supposed to become more skilled in what you train them in depending on experience and it will cost more to keep them every month if you can pay them they will likely quit and could be taken by other players and steal your technology and get information on you.
The NPC is going to be here in two days it seems. That should give me time to build a small shack for him he can make his own bed on the first day. Then I can have him gather wood for me to expand my base and potentially hire more workers once trading becomes an option. the plus side is that the AI for NPC is supposed to have human-level intelligence so they can interact and learn as well as have emotions.
venturing to the edge of the forest I start cutting down multiple trees in order to build a small log cabin for the NPC. it's just going to be a basic cabin big enough for a bed and table. I did a little research on basic cabins so I should be able to do this relatively quickly I will use clay to seal it for rain and wind. After cutting down the trees is use a basic linkin log pattern and cut notches out of the logs and stack them. Floor first making sure it was about 10X10 in size for a square cabin. once securing the floor with rope was finished i started to cover it all in clay and smoothing it out to make a nice flat floor.
Once finished with that i start to build the walls a simple over lapping pattern will clay in-between each layer for a good seal is all i need to do for this the hardest part was lifting the logs. Though I have noticed my body is now strong enough to loft several hundred pounds with little struggle. I'm glad muscle doest bulk up to much i prefer a more lithe frame. the hardest part is the roof, I had to build one side of the wall higher then the other in order for the roof to slant as to prevent water from pooling on top and damaging the cabin. next I place logs on top to complete the roof whilst adding clay in the grooves to seal from rain.
Its a rather poor and low quality home but it will serve its purpose for shelter. in the future ill have treated lumber to make proper homes and furniture. for the door I just made one out of a bunch of branches and secured it using rope its a rather flimsy job as well. i don't have the tools to make hinges so it will have to do. Hopefully I can get some workers more skilled at medal working and crafting its not my specialty. With that complete I decide to cast basic tools for my worker an ax and pickaxe should suffice for now. While creating the mold for those I also decide to create a mold for an anvil and hammer so I can start to forge some products such as spear heads and mayne a sword in the future. This will take up the rest of my Iron though so I'll need to start breaking the cavern walls today to build up more stock.
I also need to start looking into more advanced forms of technology I have a waterfall I can use to produce energy. I have always felt that sources of power like coal and oil are a waist of time i prefer renewable energy. while batteries may be difficult to make for me right now a power grid is doable as long as I have enough copper. First let's build a decent defenceable position then worry about technology ot would do me no good if I had technology and no way to defend it.
