Chapter 19 - Bed of Roses

Shade walked into the room with so much happiness emitting from her face. Her smile was the biggest I have ever seen her give ever since I have known her. But that wasn't what I expected as I became burning with curiosity.

"Have you won a lotto?" I asked out of a blue even without any exchange of greetings.

Shade walked to her side of bed with same smile which continued to shrink smaller.

"But I am talking to you. Shade!" I called her name aloud trying to confirm what was happening.

"Would you believe a bastard and foolish girl just played cards on my Joshua?" She said in a fast and energetic voice.

Her voice told me her smile wasn't a smile after all. But what could have happened was a question she needed to answer. Though I knew she must have seen or felt something that Joshua wasn't hers to keep. What took her so long to realize Joshua just can't be for her?

"What happened?" I asked in a gentle voice as I moved closer to her.

"So, I went to Joshua's place right? He told me all that happened at the bar." She said.

"Shade talk to me, what happened at the bar?" I asked gently, with my hands laid perfectly around her neck.

"He said some random girl came at him, tossed him a glass of whiskey at first. They talked and danced even still. He said he just wanted to enjoy the flow and see where it will lead."

"So, what do you think?" I asked trying to figure out her thought.

It was several more minutes before she was able to take deep breaths even longer before she was able to utter a word.

"I don't know what I think, but I trust Joshua can't cheat on me. I mean if he wanted to, what's the whole point of telling me?" She said as her face revealed more sadness.

Maybe she just needed to accept the reality that Joshua has moved on. But she kept talking, and I was more than ready to listen. Wasn't this the best news ever?

"You know I actually found it funny at first. We did stuffs after the whole conversation. I was so happy, but..."

"Stuff?" I asked being a little confused.

"Sex! You dummy!" she affirmed.

"You know sex was one of the things Joshua was good at. If I tell you sex is an art would you believe? But sex is actually an art, you have to be creative about it. The way he gently rolled on me with his eyes directly fixed into mine. Foreplay was exactly what he needed to breathe some life back into me. It gives me an opportunity to live out some kinky fantasies in a safe and fun way. Just as the way he persistently kissed my neck and slowly to my belly button, he already began to take off my trouser..."

The more she was heading to talk about sex the more uncomfortable I became. I could not endure to hear the love of my life having sex with someone not me. And how could she have sex with someone when you just found out he might be interested in another girl. As much as Shade was dumb was why I wanted him to dump her quickly. He needed a person like me.

"Shade! Don't bored me with your sex story. If you guys really had a good time what then happened? Why are you sad now?" I asked standing up away from her.

"I don't know. I feel like there is more to what he told me. I don't trust they are not going to see again. Like, I don't just know." She said as it seemed she was under tension.

"I will tell you this as your friend. Though your feelings might be hurt but it's good to say the truth... Don't worry... would you like to eat?" I asked but I knew she was going to insist on what I was intending to say. That was the plan after all.

"Okay. See, a man that loves you will not dance with some random girl at a bar, he will not say he wanted to enjoy the flow and see where it will end because if he does that, he has some ulterior motive. Maybe he is trying to shag this girl, or he is going to date her for real? You can't tell. Which is why you need to act fast."

"Act fast?" She asked totally confused.

"I will not say than that Shade. Let's bone this conversation." I answered.

She lied gently on her bed. I knew she was thinking of the question I left unanswered. But that's cool. I mean let her think. She really needed to think. For a person who looks lanky like a bent stick of broom or, a face synonymous to that of an ape. Who would want to be with you?

Music was a good way to make me feel more wonderful as I played "Dreamer" by Fireboy. Maybe the song was dedicated to Shade; How Joshua left her messages unread just to be with me and me alone. Listening more to the song, I began to give more meanings to it.

"Perhaps I need to call Jeruel " I thought as I stood up to leave the room.

Her number was at the top of my dialed numbers. I had even created a shortcut to her number which made it very easy to call her even with a single tap on the screen.

"Hello" her voice called me to the attention she already picked the call.

"Jereuuuul, how are you?" I asked with all happiness.

"I am fine ooo and yourself?" She asked with same energy of the vibe I greeted her.

"Hmm… I am kuku fine o jare" [I am fine too] I answered.

"I believe it is time you make a move on our guy." I said after a small chuckle.

"Hmm... What makes say so?" She asked.

"I think it's the perfect time. I mean Shade's feet are weary on this."

"Ooooh! For real?" She asked.

"Yes naw I answered immediately.

"She will be and e go soon clear for her eyes now, that thief! [She will soon understand, that thief] She said as we were both howled with laughter.
