Chapter 4 - The World System: Akashic Records Has Arrived!

At this moment, Jyouji felt nothing but boredom. After completing ten thousand swings and finishing off reading Magic Theories, the Gods decided that he took a rest to memorise the knowledge that he had learnt.

It was the weekends so he had nothing to do at this time, "Ugh, so boring! Can't believe Apollo ditched on me and went back to Olympus before even teaching me a spell. How rude!" He complained aloud, since the other party was a true, full fledged God; he could not just attack him out of nowhere for a petty revenge.

It wasn't in his nature to do so; after all he had a natural fear towards a higher level being like him.

Jyouji grumbled, "When I become a God I should send him a little 'present,'" Just imagining the face Apollo would make after receiving his 'gift' was enough to feed his slightly sadistic nature.

He rambled on and thought of even more dangerous yet fun things to do when all of a sudden the doorbell rang. "Hm?" The boy was surprised, he wasn't expecting a guest at all.

Jumping off the sofa; he brushed himself off and ran towards the door. Unhesitatingly he opened the door wide open; only to see that no one was there.

His first thought was that it was a prank, but when he looked down he realised that there was a parcel on the doormat, "A package? Did I order something?"

He was confused onto why he would receive a parcel, but when he looked closer at the tags, he discovered that the senders' name was [Olympus].

Suddenly his heart skipped a beat, there was only one thing he associated with that name nowadays, and that was 'the' Olympus, home of the Greek Pantheon.

Hurriedly he took in the parcel, suppressing his excitement. He wondered what the Gods' had sent him this time, "A weapon? A spell book? A magical item? Only one way to find out."

Rushing to the cupboard, he vehemently took out a red box cutter, pushing the blade out; once he came back to the entrance of the door he then proceeded to stab the box right on the taped line.

Slicing vertically; then hastily pushing the two sides apart. Pulling out the paper and plastic covering, with unfounded joy he saw three objects.

All of a sudden his face contorted into that of confusion, he realised what the items were. A leather book that looked similar to the Magic Theory Tome he read before, a round container and a smartphone.

Nothing mystical or divine of any sort, "What the hell? This is just disappointing." The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, he had massive expectations but they were nullified very quickly.

He sighed and opened the book, "This should be a Grimoire or something or maybe another Theory Tome." However just by skimming through the first few pages he became furious; the book was blank.

In a fit he threw it down and stomped on it. "Arghh!!" His bated breath caught up to him and he started to cough wildly.

Gazing down at the blank book he noticed that there was a yellow piece of paper on the back of the book, "Hm? A sticky note?" Pulling it off he saw the beautifully cursive handwriting and could not help but admire how they were lined up and spaced perfectly.

It felt like it was written by a computer rather than by hand. {Turn On The Phone}. Was the message written.

His eyes lit up, 'Could there be something special about the phone?!' He was now bursting with excitement compared to before.

Grabbing the smartphone tightly, he pressed on the button hard. It lit up and started to load. The home screen appeared.

But it was completely different from usual ones. There were only three apps and the background was a picture of a book.

His eyes then averted towards the book on the ground, "Could this be?!" He gently picked up the book and dusted it off.

His attitude towards it changed drastically. Then facing the phone he took a look at the three apps; one was called [God's Book Of Remembrance] which sounded vaguely familiar to him.

The second was [The Fire Gods' Forgery] and the last one being [The Magic Gods' Grimoire].

He had no idea what their functions were but he felt curious in trying them out, "Let's do... this one." His hand hovered over the three before eventually selecting [God's Book Of Remembrance].

All of a sudden his magical energy erupted; power surged through his body and found its way outside, a small wisp of visible magical energy entered the phone, Jyouji was taken aback by the suddenness.

He had no idea what had just occurred. The phone began to undergo some changes, and the app had just loaded. A catchy tune rang aloud as a small sprite appeared on his phone.

It was a small orb-like creature with no expression or emotion at all, but despite that it still spoke in a jovial tone, "Welcome!~ I am God's Book Of Remembrance; also known as the Akashic Records!"

Jyouji was shocked, he then recalled a legend pertaining this name.

It was said that everything that had come to pass, the things that were currently happening and all that had yet to pass were recorded somewhere on a mental plane.

Human experience, emotions, their sins and every deed. All of it were recorded into it, the Akashic Records, the Library Of History, the Film Of All Events, "God's Book Of Remembrance." Jyouji whispered as he remembered all the names that the Akashic Records were once called.

"That is correct! And more importantly, you are my new master from now on!" Jyouji felt as if a bomb had exploded beside him.

This was a stunning revelation. He had never thought that a divine treasure would ever be in his hands, "But wait, how are you able to communicate with me? Wasn't the Akashic Records supposed to exist on the mental plane?"

He was confused, he knew from some anecdotes that stated where the Akashic Records resided but did not believe them, until now.

The entity replied, "Good question. I am in the mental plane, however as of now my true body resides in your mind, what you are seeing is a Thoughtform. A being created through mental power and the reason it resides in this phone is due to it being a compatible vessel for an electrical body." Jyouji felt that this was contradictory, how could an entity made out of mental energy be of an electrical nature?

"I know what you are thinking. 'How could an entity made out of mental energy be of an electrical nature?' Simple, the mental energy is keeping light and other forms of energy together by compressing it, it is somewhat unstable but it'll work for now. As for why it's inside the phone, it's because it'll be easier on you and others will believe that it's a game."

Jyouji acknowledged this and found it to be a logical choice. After all he did not want to be seen as crazy by others, in the event that he would be caught by someone speaking to himself it would be extremely difficult to cover up.

Even if he erased the witnesses' memories, since surveillance cameras were everywhere it would be difficult to stop the case from spreading.

"Well then if I'm going to be your master what should I call you for now?" The ball of light seemingly contemplated before eventually coming to a conclusion, "You may call me Cato.*"

'Cato, huh. Interesting.' Jyouji smiled feeling satisfied with the name. He felt that it was quite cool.

....

In another world; at the Bridge Of The Tower To Heaven.

It was a place under the starry sky, where night was everlasting and the sun never rose.

It was a cold and desolate place, lit by the moonlight and showed extreme importance due to it carrying a Divine Treasure in its tower.

A man stood before the Guardian; the challenger was cloaked in black, mystery shrouded him and shadows followed his very step.

"Stop here, O foolish mortal. This sacred site is not one for a person like you to enter." The Guardian clad in armour rooted his great sword into the bridge, not caring for the damage done due to the restorative powers placed upon it.

"Oh? And pray tell why am I disallowed to enter the Tower Of Heaven. If I recall; as long as one has the necessary strength they can fight the Guardian and take the treasure for themselves." The man smiled, he had been waiting for the day he was able to challenge the Guardian and plotted secretly to obtain his current strength.

"That is correct. However one must hold virtue and a strong will to survive the tribulations to come." The Guardian did not refute his words and even gave him a hint onto how they could enter.

But even then he would not let the other party go in in his current state. The man sneered, he had no intention of going inside the right way in the first place. "I can sense your disdain. Your contempt and lack for the laws, I can fix that."

At that moment his entire body radiated a vivid orange, energy bursting out from his eyes and mouth.

A second later a dragon like creature appeared behind him, the cloaked man gulped as he stared at this scene, "The Godly power of Life Creation!"

His eyes were now clouded with greed and envy. He had at first thought that the Guardian was just an old man with a strict sense of justice, but seeing that he had learned this divine technique he could no longer hold on to his bloodlust and gave in.

His muscles expanded and his body shot forward, arms stretched in front of him, a vicious smile formed on his face.

The Guardian raised his great sword and prepared to block the attack, but contrary to his expectations a shadowy figure appeared behind him in the form of a giant hand.

The hand grabbed him by the neck and began to choke him, the Guardian's face changed colour as he clawed at the hand, he tried to scream but it was no use.

His eyes were bloodshot, veins popping out, blood dripping from his orifices, once he had finally turned purple his head imploded.

Shrapnel of bones hit the man's face as blood seeped out onto the ground. "Tsk. How disappointing." He had expected something more, but was filled with disdain once he realised that his opponent was too weak for him.

"Oh well. No matter." His dreams were nearly achieved, and it was only just one step closer.

But once he did, he discovered a blinding light entering his field of sight. The tower disappeared leaving nothing but the other side of the bridge.

"What is the meaning of this?!" He was furious, there was only one thing to do but now he could not fulfil his wish, his dreams were shot down instantly.

"Stop right there. Just because you have become a Venerable Wiseman doe not mean that you are the strongest being in the world. You are but a mere ant in front of others." An ethereal voice came from nowhere, causing great fear to the Venerable Wiseman.

"Who are you?" He yelled aloud in panic, "My name is not important. All I shall say for now that this tower is not for you to use. It is reserved for someone else. If you ever covet it anymore, then that person will destroy your life's work and will never ascend into the higher planes."

The man gritted his teeth hearing this, broken pride filling his heart. "Who is it for then?! I'm the most powerful being here! I've stripped this world of any chance of ascending to my stage and stole the legacies and inheritances of the old ones over the past few hundred years." He clutched his head, mad thoughts swarming inside his mind.

The voice did not reply, "Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY? WHY? WHY?WHY?WHY?!.." Darkness overflowed, a dismal aura emanating from his body.

He was overtaken by his emotions and was stranded in the abyss of of despair. He was in the midst of becoming 'something' not human.

Not a 'mortal.' But a monster. Shadows enveloped the bridge, becoming his forbidden domain.

A devil has been born.
