Chapter 1 - Unknown German Soldier. 1916

He looked around him, he was in the sky it's light blue colour dotted by clouds surrounded him, he felt like a angel flying through the sky. He felt the wind against his head as he snapped out of it by a heavy hand grabbing his shoulder. "Kanonier! Sich fertig machen! Die Briten werden versuchen, uns aufzuhalten!" The voice of the commander yelled beside him as the hand lifted.

Kanonier grabbed the MG08s bolt and pulled back as he check the cloth ammo belts were attached and ready to fire, the gun was air cooled unlike the ground variant that was water cold, so instead of the barrel covering water tank it had a barrel cover filled with slits that let in air. He was told to fire in bursts and aim in front of any enemy aircraft. Then he waited.

He started to hum a song as the sky started to darken around him with the moon coming over the mountains in the distance. He then heard a loud alarm behind him as he saw a single green by plane fly up to the airships level, it had a multi colour circle near its tail with a single cockpit where a coated pilot sat. The plane was flying the same way as the ship was but it drove downwards, then he heard the loud CRACK of a machine gun letting a bullet lose into the sky roared behind him.

Kanonier didn't have look back as he was distracted by a British Plane lifting out of the low clouds and raced for the blimp, the plane opened fire, some rounds hit the cloth hull but most roared above the blimp. Kanonier pushed down on the MG and closed his finger on the trigger, CRACK, CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK echoed around Kanonier as spun the MG to follow the plane as it flew above.

The plane exploded into hundreds of pieces, its left wing become dust as its cloth burned instantly and the wood frame work shattered and burned within seconds of the explosion. But Kanonier didn't have enough time to celebrate his victory as he heard the roar of a plane fly above him, Kanonier spun the Mg around and spotted another plane making a shape left turn for another attack run.

Kanonier pulled down the trigger as he aimed the MG slightly in front of the plane, the MG rocked back and forth as the Crack crack crack crack crack crack roared around him. The plane was only hit once by a round that merely went though its tail, the plane that turned in for a run on Kanonier, but he was ready and fired round after round into the incoming plane. He put a wall of lead infornt of the plane so it was gonna be luckily that a single round might hit.

Kanonier saw a single bullet rip through the engine block as the engine imploded into a fire show as another round hit somthing that exploded into a thick cloud of red mist. The plane pulled up violently, its wing tips snapped off as the plane then dove downwards with its engine a blaze. Then Kanonier got a gaze of the bloody remains of the pilots headless body as the plane dove into the now grey clouds.

He spun the MG towards another British plane, but this time he was too late, a bullet ripped his left shoulder apart as he fired into the front of the Biplane. The plane crumbled as two rounds hit its engine and fuel tank, its pilot climbed out of the plane as it exploded into a fire ball, the pilot was flung from the explosion with his once covered back drenched in flames. He was dead, long dead before he crumbled into the ocean.

Kanonier fell backwards from the MG, his should was numb and he felt the warm liquid staining his coat, and his body. He let out a half hearted grunt of pain, he couldn't feel his left arm, or even his neck at that moment. He looked down and to the left, his arm was dangling limp at his side, his shoulder, oh god his shoulder, it was a mess of broken bones and flesh the round had hit the joint. He was bleeding out fast.

He leaned back onto the cold metal plant form, he lost feeling in his feet, then his right arm. He loosely felt the blimp rise upwards, before it dove downwards into the great ocean. He felt the blimp hit the water.

Metal was crumbled and snapped, men were crumbled and snapped. They all sank to the floor of the life giving ocean.
