Brina slowly woke up when the afternoon sun invaded her sleep, and the smell of roasted meat filled her nose.... what smelled so good?.
She slowly sat up right and looked around the little house to find it completely empty. she lifted her hands above her head and stretched, couldn't help but close her eyes in delight. she glanced out the window, hoping to see anyone in sight but, found none. But, her eyes caught the sight at the little round table. She immediately stood up on her feet and they carried her all the way to the table, she happily took a seat. In front of was a plate of roasted meat, her mouth watered at the sight. She couldn't remember the last thing she had meat.... Probably, years ago.
Who cared!?.
But, just when she was about to dig in, someone grabbed her hand.
"Hey!" She called as she looked up at the intruder, but only to find Emil, who was staring at her with a raised eyebrow.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I thought you couldn't remember your past now, you can't see?." She glared at him.
" Very well. Am sorry, but you won't be having this" he told her nicely as he took the plate with his other hand and let go of her hand.
"Hey, that's mine!" She barked and he couldn't help but wonder, what was wrong with her.
"Did you know how it got on the table?" He asked her and she looked away.
" No"
" That's what I thought", he clicked his tongue.
Brina threw draggers at him and for the fact that that she was very hungry, was not helping her at all. But, at that moment, Valerie walked in.
"What's going on?" Valerie asked as she entered the house.
" Why don't you ask him" Brina pointed at Emil annoyed.
Valerie smiled when she saw the plate that was laid on Emil's palm. She shook her head amused and took a seat. Brina watched as Emil dropped the plate in front of Valerie, she frowned and Valerie laughed.
"Emil caught that when we went herb picking this morning, while you were still asleep. " She explained.
" But, that does not mean I can't have my own share" Brina frowned even more, which made Emil confused.
" Of course, you can have it" Emil watched with wide eyes as Valerie pushed the plate towards Brina.
"But..."
Valerie interrupted him. "Nevermind Emil. I am not that hungry. Let someone who is hungry, have it. I don't mind" she looked up at him and gave him an assuring smile but, he could see the pain behind before those beautiful eyes that he was suddenly addicted to, he could drown in those blue orbs of hers.
He eyes turned back to Brina and he couldn't help the frown that appeared on his fine figure. Brina was eating something that wasn't hers without a care in the world. It was like, it was a normal thing but, this wasn't normal. His attention went back to Valerie, he remembered how hungry she was in the morning that her tummy kept making funny nosies, which was why he made efforts to kill that damn bird, only for it to enter another person stomach. She just gave it away!.
"I will be outside" Valerie announced.
As she stood and walked out of the tree house, leaving the two individuals in the room. Emil turned to Brina sharply who was busy chewing his hard work!.
Though, he should be greatful that she saved him... saved him? What was he saying, she nearly killed him because she had nothing in her brain. But, he had to admit, she was still involved in saving him.
He won't have died anyway, he was a phoe... He shouldn't think that!.
but, this was too much. It was like she didn't care about Valerie.
"What do you do around here anyway?" He asked unable to content himself.
Brina stopped mid way as she bought the meat to her mouth. She frowned, how dare he judge her like that! "You don't Know me, Emil!" She snapped at him.
He noticed the way his name roll out of her mouth like a vermon. He hated it. "I think I have seen enough to know you, Brina" he used the same tone she used and she glared hatefully at him.
He shook his head and walked out of the house and climbed down to the tree, he couldn't see Valerie in sight. But, he could easily track her and that was what he did.
He followed her.
He finally caught up with her, to find her sitting and resting her head on a big tree in the middle of the forest. But, what he saw made him frown and shook his head sadly.
"What are you doing?" He voiced out and he watched as she snapped back to reality, knocking over the strawberry she was eating. A gasp escaped her lips. It was like she was caught doing something wrong. She slowly lift up her head and her blue eyes innocently met his grey orbs. She smiled innocently.
"If I had known that you didn't like meat, I wouldn't have bother catching that bird" he told her, his voice coming out cold than intended.
She looked down sadly. "am sorry. She was hungry"
He raised an eyebrow. Doesn't she care for herself. "And you?" He asked. Though, he just met her but, he felt protective and the need to look out for her.
She sighed "she is my best friend, I can't let her starve. I would have done it for you or anyone."
Emil stared down at her, she was selfless. He could also tell that there was more to the story than meets the eye. But, he didn't ask any questions. He sighed and sat beside her and she continued eating her strawberry after picking them up. "Are you just going to eat that?" He asked her, his voice laced with concerned.
Valerie smiled, he was the first person who had ever showen her concern after her grandma. That woman was like a mother she never had. "I will be fine Emil. Thank you" she answered and it became slient for a while, until Valerie sighed. "When you are a healer, saving the lives of other become your only aim. You don't care for yourself anymore, especially if you were raised that way" weird, but she felt comfortable with him, it was like she wanted to tell him everything about herself...it scared her a bit.
" What about Brina? " He couldn't help but ask.
"Brina is not the same though, we grew and bought up the same way. Sometimes, she does not care if her closet family member is dieing, while other times, she might seem like she cared but, she is aiming for something that would benefit her"
"But, she is your friend"
" My best friend. I feel like she cares for me and am sure she does" she smiled. Just by looking at her, he could tell that she was the one making all the sacrifices in their friendship. Suddenly, she stood up and looked down at him.
"Come on, let's head back" she put her out for him and he happily took, lifting himself up from the ground but that did not mean he had to let go of her hand. He liked the way her touch was making him feel. But, his fantasy was caught short when she realized that they were still holding hands, she immediately pulled away blushing deeply. Turning sharply, she went on her way leaving him to chase after her.
They got back to the tree house to Brina lying on the bed but, she immediately sat up right when she heard them came in.
"Where have you two been. I was getting worried" When she said that, Emil stared into her eyes and saw no sign of worry behind them, they were so cold and hard and he was sure, Valerie also noticed.
"We didn't take that long for you to worry. " Valerie answered as she went to the table.
" But I was" Brina relied and laid back on the bed.
No word was exchange next. Valerie put the basket of fresh herbs she picked on the table. Emil walked up to her and helped her out and, she smiled happily at him.
