Heroslayer was blessed by Spirit King due to which he has became an half - spirit, that's why he was able to meet Magnus in the first place. Even though his physical body in Arcadia was vanished but due to his half - spirit nature, he can be summoned as spirit if he has connection and about the connection Durandel itself was his connection to the Arcadia but since he wasn't a full fledged spirit, he can't manifest his physical form again in Arcadia.
Presently, Magnus doesn't had any vessel on hands, so he asked
"oldman, what type of vessel ?"

An idea struck Magnus mind, and he asked again,
"what about my dead troop? "
" that can work, summon it and pierce Durandel into it".
As instructed by oldman, Magnus summoned his strongest soldier that was Paladin. SInce he was stuck in battle with Saint, he can't just do what was required. So in accordance, he summoned his dead army to buy time.
Since dead army itself was stronger than human army , they can stall heroes for as much time as required.
Even though, Heroes are invincible entities but a single person can't go against an army.
As soon as Magnus summoned his dead army, they lept on Saint as tiger lept on its prey.
Assassins surrounded Saint and used guerilla tactics and warriors played roll of shields and Mages of cannons and bombarded spells on saint. This strategy was suicidal but since it was dead army their won't be any casualties as they can be recovered again.
"so you finally understood the difference in our strength but you can't kill me with this"
Saint who was being attacked by army of half an million, doesn't even shed a drop of nervousness but was brimming with confidence.
Assassins began harassing Saint and in response Saint responsed with showering of his prowess in elemental form. Sometimes, he would shower fire, sometimes lightning but his efforts was just an futile effort as dead army was senseless they just keep on coming, which suppressed Saint.

Since Magnus was Arcmage and on top of that an necromancer so calling the spirits was part of his abilities which increased the success rate astronomically.
As Saint was being suppressed by dead army, he felt an familiar aura from another side, which gave him gossebumps and he immediately rushed towards that side,
"I was right, so you have returned, Heroslayer"
"yes, last time you complained that you lost due to spirit King's blessing rather than my skills so this time why don't we decide whose at the peak of Swordsmanship".
"sure, I have to thank this kid if it wasn't for him, I would have never exact my revenge on you"
Saint was confident about his phantom arts but infront of true power no trickery or technique can work. As soon both finished their conversation as instructucted by Heroslayer, Magnus got out of the place as the two monsters from legends were about to go berserk.
An immense power was brimming out of Golden paladin and he was holding Durandel as he was still a predecessor of it.

Magnus who was already got out of valley was shocked on the devastating power and thought about war centuries ago. If it wasn't for powerful beings favouring this world, it might have been destroyed during the war itself.
Excalibur was an doubled edged sword for Saint even though it amplies its user's power output but the capacity doesn't amplify. It can convert its user's life into power i.e lifeforce but if used for much time, it can kill user.
