Before Max's thoughts could turn over themselves even further, a deadly hush fell over the crowd as a destructive presence beyond anything he'd ever felt before crashed into the crowd. The aura was so powerful that the Mana inside his body seemed to freeze in place, commanded to a halt by this new being.
Time lost all meaning as a man practically made up of magical energy stepped forward from the crowd, while indistinct figures floated around the man and followed his energy like insects swarming towards sweet nectar. The phantom figures never got closer than a few meters to the man, as if repelled by a powerful barrier, bouncing off again as their greed compelled them to continue their mindless charge.
