Fen was about to ask where exactly he should position himself in the wave to make the best of his melee abilities when a large wave of Mana passed through the hill, powerful enough to send the complex barrier of energy the Mages spent so long making into a state of fluctuation that threatened to collapse the powerful spellwork.
Following the flood of energy, a loud and reedy screech filled the air, grounding his feet to the hill as all his muscles locked in place from the primal urge that threatened to overwhelm his willpower.
"Screech!"
The confidence that he carried in his body seemed to blink out of existence compared to that sound. The power that he worked so hard to possess was meaningless against the dread that sank through his skin. His Vitality could protect him from fatal injuries, but it couldn't help his heart as it very nearly pounded out of his chest from the sheer fear he felt.
