Chapter 6 - Say You Will

A handsome young man walked a pretty, yet drunk girl up to her apartment.   On the outside, it seemed like any regular night.   The Girl was loosely grasping to his side, as he placed his arm around her to steady her movements.    She kept insisting a random man saved her life that night, but her companion laughed, insisting that he saw no one there.   He finally reached her door and kissed her, cupping her face in his, "You need sleep.  I'm going back to work.   Sweet dreams."    She smiled and told him bye, walking inside.

Leaning against a lamppost across the street watching was indeed the random man who helped her.  Except it was not random and he wasn't a living man.   Not anymore.    He sighed.  She was safe.   But she wasn't exactly happy- more like content.   He had seen Mr Wonderful kiss her - as much as it killed him- and she'd felt happy before.   But she wasn't this time.   He had to know why.   He shouldn't want to know why, but something just ate at him.   He slowly crept up to her apartment door.   He could basically appear there, but he felt walking fit the moment.   He was feeling very human, so he wanted to do a very human thing.

Luckily, she'd left the door unlocked.   Not very safe for her though.   He frowned and quietly locked it.   She was showering in the bathroom, so he stayed in her living room area.   God he hoped she had sobered up.   He sat softly on the big chair he always curled up on.   Her cat suddenly jumped on his lap, demanding attention.   Loudly.   Oh fuck.

The Girl called out for her cat, hearing his meows.  "I'm coming!" she exclaimed, "I'm coming!"   He heard her shuffling around and panicked.   What if she wasn't sober?   Oh god.   She flittered in, obviously had thrown her pajamas on quickly.  Or whatever she wore as pajamas- a pair of pj shorts and an old tee.   She walked straight past him and scooped the cat up.    "Do you know what happened to Mama today?" She said to the cat, "I was almost attacked, but this random guy saved me.   You know who doesn't believe me, but he's an asshole who works a lot anyway."   She rolled her eyes when she said works.   So, they both knew he wasn't actually working all those times.   He sighed, happy to not be seen, justified that she finally saw Mr Wonderful was not wonderful.   Though he knew he should not, he could not.

The Girl walked over him- had he been visible she would have hit his feet- and went to the window.  "I wonder who he is," she said, putting the cat down, "He's a bartender.  I mean, I know the bar.   I can just go ask about him tomorrow on my lunch break."

The cat jumped back on his lap.   He stroked his fur pensively, almost scared.   She wouldn't?   No.

"Yeah," she said to no one really, "I'm going to find him."   She turned and looked directly at the chair he was sitting in.  "Dammit, cat," she said sternly, "Get off that chair."    The Girl reached into what would be his lap and grabbed the cat.   He heard her fussing the cat playfully as he gasped on the chair.

The Girl wanted to find him.   What the hell was he supposed to do?
