Rowan exited the clothing store and made his way to the nearest inn. After getting shown to his room, He began taking all his gear off. Not very fun when you've been wearing roughly 60 to 70 pounds of gear. He sat down on the surprisingly soft bed and began taking off his clothes and getting into the clothes he bought. The feeling of different clothes never felt so good before to him. Rowan then made his way downstairs and went to the bath house. As he entered it, was fairly filled with travelers and people fresh off work. After cleaning himself, he went to get himself some dinner at the inn. After ordering, one of the wenches gave him his drink. He took a sip of his drink as the sweet and warm sensation of the drink entered his body. He ran a hand through his still damp short brown hair and began to go deep in thought about his plan tomorrow. Thinking of how this was going to go down. Of course, he expects the rival party to try and either eliminate the son or cripple him to try and further destabilize the father's company. Rowan believes that if the rival company did indeed kidnap Adrian's sister, that might be a move to try and get the father to give up his company. Well, no use trying to theorize on something that's not in the contract.
...
I woke up and slowly got out of my bed. Today is the day. I got ready as my anxiety was festering. If that merc doesn't show up, this could be my last day on this realm. I grabbed the dagger on my nightstand and placed it firmly on my belt of my noble garment I headed downstairs as my maid was standing there holding two blades in her hands.
"Young Master Adrian I must insist on you bringing me along. You can't trust that lowly merc. He's probably already took another contract and left you." Lily insisted.
"Have some faith Lily, I think this guy is trustworthy. Besides, I need someone to be there to take care of father." I said.
"But Young Master please-"
"My mind is made up Lily! I'm not changing my stance on this!"
Lily threw her blades on the floor and grabbed my hands. Her head hanging down as her body began to twitch. She was trying not to cry but her emotions failed her as she looked back up at me tears in her eyes with a pleading expression on her face.
"Please Young Master, how would I even be able to look your father in the eye if something happens to you. We already lost your sister, We-I can't lose you too."
"My sister is only lost and I will find her."
I pulled Lily into my arms giving her a gentle hug.
"I will return, I promise."
Lily tightened the hug I initiated as it was silent for a moment until she spoke.
"You better."
I exited my house and made my way to the meetup point. I checked behind me and didn't see the merc. Perhaps he did run off. But if I don't do this then there might be no more leads on my sister. I entered the secluded lot as three men followed by two more behind me enclosed me.
"You came, Mr. Adrian."
"I did, so what is it you fellas wanna tell me?"
"Simple really, just here to deliver your death."
"Figured as much well don't expect me to go down without a fight. Did the Wallers put you up to this?"
"Take that question to your grave!"
The men all brandished their blades as I pulled my dagger out, suddenly an odd cracking sound shot behind me as two of the men in front of me slowly fell to the ground as a small hole was made in their chests. I quickly turned around to see the other two guys finding the same fate as the figure bolted towards me and pulled me behind him. After a quick glance it was the merc holding the strange instrument. I didn't recognize him with the new clothes and cloak.
"You alright Adrian?"
"Yeah, thank you."
"Comes with the job."
"What the...who the hell are you?!"
"Doesn't matter, now answer my client's question."
"I'm not telling you anything!"
"Listen buddy you just lost a decent amount of guys. Highly unlikely they were all different mercs. You tell us and we don't rat you out to your employer. Come on, work with me here. If not then you can join your companions."
The hired muscle stared at his companions on the floor dead before cursing under his breath.
"Yeah it was the Wallers."
"What about my sister?"
"Don't know, they made sure not to divulge any more info than needed."
"Thanks for the info."
Rowan put his instrument away as we left the empty lot.
"I almost thought you wouldn't come."
"Well I did, never gonna catch me backing out of a job I already accepted."
"Please, come to my house I have something to ask of you."
.....
Lily sat in silence on the couch until the sound of a door opened, she quickly got up and turned towards the door seeing Adrian alongside Rowan.
"Young Master!"
"Ah Lily, please can you make us some refreshments please? I'm quite parched after what happened."
"Yes, Young Master."
Lily bowed and left as Adrian plopped onto the couch across from Rowan.
"Well if the Wallers are involved then we need hard evidence before I bring this to the Grand Treasurer. If you want, you can head back to the Merc Guild and turn in the contract and it will be done. But if you want, you can come back and we make a deal here, no official contract."
Rowan sat there for a moment before a small smile appeared on his face as he sat up and held his hand out.
"Let's take the Wallers down and get your sister back."
