Jacob's POV
"What happened?" Gary was the first to ask, having regained his composure faster than I would have expected. Claire gave him an odd look, but only shortly so that he wouldn't notice.
"Texan," I said with one word and turned to the others that had gathered for the sad ceremony. The people before me must have looked to him as a light.
"Dear Artra Jacob," Boran spoke up from the front way. I could tell from his tone that he was going to try and convince me of something that I was obviously not going to accept. With the way he had started his speech, something was amiss. The other dwarves had all decided to look at the ground and avoid casting any looks upon me.
"What is it, Boran? Explain all this," I spoke up.
"We beseech you just this once…" he said, looking me straight in the eye, "Leave this town along with the friends you've brought."
