David's POV
Joshua and I were relieved to see the young squire safe when we came out of the forest. The boy had fallen asleep waiting for us at the exit. Although I was not entirely sure if he had been here the entire time. The exit led to the foothill of a mountain that I was sure we were supposed to climb to get back to the capital. A trained soldier could always find their way in Serif since our Skewerers allowed us to communicate with the elements. I could tell where Queen Kendra's castle was by simply touching the ground and I could sense the general direction if I wasn't focusing. I would not say the same for our king since he didn't even know what a Skewerer looked like.
A kettle hang above a cold camp fire not far from the sleeping squire along with a half eaten roasted carcass. I tapped the boy's cheek, gently slapping him awake, "Hey, wake up boy."
It took him a few seconds to recognize what was going on. "Sir David, you got out."
