The countdown representing the remaining time of the game was reset to zero on the huge scoreboard hanging directly above the center of the stadium. The game was over! The Beavers won their first victory of the Barton High School Rugby League this year! Cheers rushed out of the stands again, mixed with various colored confetti, hats, slogans... and flocked to the winning team in the field!
But amid all the jubilation, there was a discordant voice.
"It's not fair!"
When everyone was cheering for victory, Lola was not happy. From the beginning to the end of the game, she was probably the only one who focused on the right winger, "It must be Connor, that douchebag, he always targeted Kyle!" The girl leaned on the fence and looked at the quarterback, who was being thrown into the air by the players, said angrily.
Alice didn't know how to comfort her new friend, she couldn't just say, 'Lola, don't be angry, that douchebag guy is already dead!'
The banshee looked at Zach for help, but the vampire was touching his chin, revealing a thoughtful look. After watching the whole game, they didn't find that the guy named Connor was any different from ordinary people.
"Forget it!" Lola crumpled the popcorn paper bag into a ball, venting her anger: "Oh right, Alice, do you want to go to the Players' Lounge? I can take you there."
"May I? Thank you so much! "Zach put on a smile and said before the Banshee could refuse.
Lola was in a slightly better mood. She picked up her things and pulled Alice who was in distress again and ran ahead. Benjamin finally had the opportunity to discuss 'Connor' with Zach.
"Benjamin! And Alice's other brother (Zach), keep up! "Lola didn't forget to turn her head and smile at the werewolf...
The way Lola addressed them has clearly stated some things. This time it was only a "social practice" for Alice. It succeeded in making Alice a friend and also adding an admirer to the werewolf. Throughout the game, Lola's topic was evenly divided into three parts: Alice, Benjamin, and Kyle. But looking at Benjamin's bitter face, he didn't seem very excited...
Zach chuckled and patted Benjamin's back, and then followed Lola.
The players' lounge does not allow outsiders to enter, even the family members also needed to wait outside. But the smart Lola revealed her surname, Barton, and the security guards did not make it difficult for them, and simply let them pass.
Lola first peeked inside at the door for a moment, confirming that the people inside were wearing clothes, before taking the three people in.
"Kyle!" Lola rushed to her brother excitedly and gave him a big hug, but within a second, the girl pushed her brother away and looked disgusted, "ew~ you're sweating all over! And you stink!"
Zach was very happy that Alice could meet Lola, this was a textbook model for a 16-year-old girl! Zach hoped that Alice could learn this girl's fickleness...
Kyle had a sullen face, and he seemed to have no way to deal with his younger sister, "Did you expect it to be fragrant? Why are you here?"
"I think you need some comfort, Mr. Right Winger~" Lola looked at her brother teasingly, as if the girl, who had been complaining that her elder brother received an unfair treatment, was not her.
Kyle's face was even more sullen and he ignored his sister's tease. He grabbed a passing player, "Tell the coach that I'm leaving first."
"Oh." The other party responded.
Lola was anxious, holding down Kyle's hand that was packing up his stuff: "Why do you want to leave so early? There will be interviews and a celebration party later!"
Kyle pushed away his sister's hand: "I don't feel well, I have to go back first. that's it." Kyle pulled the zipper of his backpack and stood up.
"Wait!" Lola frowned, and she seemed unable to figure out what her brother was thinking for a while, "At least let me introduce my new friend!"
Only until this moment did Kyle find out that three people were standing beside him. He looked at his sister in confusion, "Who are they?"
"This is Alice! They are the brothers of Alice." Lola took the opportunity to stand next to Benjamin and desperately gave her brother a wink: "This is Benjamin." Of course, it was no surprise that Lola forgot to mention Zach. Zach suspected that the girl didn't remember his name at all!
Apparently Kyle didn't realize his sister's intentions but looked at Zach absentmindedly.
Zach smiled and took out his sunglasses and put on: "Don't forget to put on your seat belt."
Kyle remembered that this was the person who had reminded him of traffic safety on the road. But he obviously also thought of something else. His body shuddered involuntarily, and he took a step back. Without saying a single word, he rushed out of the lounge with his head down.
"Kyle!" slightly annoyed, Lola looked at her brother who had run away, "What's wrong with this guy today?"
Kyle's departure made Lola feel lost for what to do next. She looked around, noticing that the excited young boys gathered together and chatted with each other, completely ignoring her.
"Lola! Where did Kyle go?"
"He just left..." Lola replied subconsciously, turned around, and saw the person who asked the question. It was 'Connor'. Lola's face became indifferent: "It's none of your business!"
The expression of 'Conner' did not change, "I have something that I want to say to him, but he keeps hiding from me."
"But he, he doesn't want to talk to you!" Lola has changed back to the sister who was defending her elder brother. "I also don't want to talk to you!" Lola grabbed the trembling Alice: "Let's go!"
This was the first time Alice actively cooperated with Lola's actions. The two girls rushed out of the lounge in the blink of an eye.
Zach's eyes shifted from 'Connor', frowning at Benjamin, and Benjamin also frowned. The two couldn't communicate any more because—
"Benjamin! Another brother of Alice! Keep up!" Lola shouted...
Lola made a mistake. When she went to the lounge to see Kyle, she missed the school bus. Then after Kyle got away inexplicably, she lost her transportation back home!
"I think Benjamin would be happy to send you back." Zach chuckled and patted the helpless werewolf.
"Really?" Lola looked at Benjamin: "Thank you Benjamin!"
Just like this, the granddaughter of the founder of Barton City got on Benjamin's old dirty truck.
"Lola." Zach took off his sunglasses and looked at the girl sitting with Alice in the back seat: "Now, it will take some time to get to your house, could you tell us something about the team leader of the Beavers. What kind of person is Connor?"
In Lola's view, there were only two red dots left, her eyes were confused for a moment but immediately became clear. She didn't know why, she suddenly had a desire to gossip about that douchebag!
"Team leader? Humph! That guy doesn't deserve to be a team leader. Alice, let me tell you, you must not think that he has a good look..."
Zach put on his sunglasses again, and gestured to Alice, who had a bitter face: "you need to learn..."
In Lola's narrative, the vampire and the werewolf listened carefully to this standard high school gossip. They were trying to figure out what 'Connor', who was still able to move normally, exactly was.
In this world, there are not many things that can walk after death... Er… Okay, there are actually quite a few. Vampires, ghouls, zombies... Zach didn't want Alice's first friend to live in danger, so he wanted to make sure that Connor was not a threat to Lola.
Maybe Zach also had some selfish motives, too. Lola was the granddaughter of the Barton family. The vampire did not want the family of the city's founder to be exposed to other nonhumans unpreparedly. Because the city of Barton was not a place where other non-humans could enjoy themselves, but the backyard of Zach, the backyard of the Grande Family.
Zach remembered the old lady who suddenly talked to Benjamin and him at the funeral of Mr. Quinn. At the end of the funeral, Zach flipped through the newspaper from decades ago and found the old lady's name, Selena Barton.
Perhaps this Mrs. Barton would not have thought that they would meet again so soon.
