Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Last Laugh

"Slow down, at this rate you'll pull my whole arm off!"

"Lighten up, Kanoe, don't be such a wuss. And maybe if you stop dragging your feet, I won't pull your limbs off." I laughed, hauling Kanoe off to the next store in the mall.

"Which store are we going to now?"

"This one!" I pointed towards another random clothing store. (Too lazy to make up a name)

"You're gonna buy me a sh*t ton of gay clothing, aren't you?" Kanoe asked, sounding rather unamused.

"Do I look like the kind of person to force you into a pair of rainbow trousers?"

"Yes...?"

I scowled at him, then let go of his hand to cross my arms. To my liking, the tension in the air thickened; making my aura even more deadly.

"Do you want decent clothing or not? Because I could always just dig up something suitable to your tastes from the garbage can over there, if that's what you prefer."

"Ah, nothankyou I'm good!" Kanoe released a nervous laugh while a bead of sweat formed on his forehead.

"Good, now let's get you some clothes." I pivoted and walked into the department store, Kanoe trailing behind me.

"Ooh, how about this one?" I asked, holding up a pair of navy blue jeans ribbed jeans.

"I guess, It'd go well with a clean white shirt and sneakers."

"Okay, but we need that one thing that ties the outfit together..." I browsed the jewelry stand for something eye-catching, and then I found the perfect item, "Kanoe! I found something cool! Get your a$$ over here!"

"What?"

I held up a sterling silver feather necklace with a small ruby embedded into the base.

"Wear this with a clean white shirt, the ribbed jeans we just put in the cart, and the dark brown leather jacket!" I stuffed said items into his arms and pushed him towards the changing rooms.

"Okay, okay, I'll try it on."

Kanoe disappeared behind one of the stall doors and came back moments later wearing the outfit I picked out.

"How do I look?" Kanoe asked, stuffing a hand into his jeans pocket and shifting his weight onto one side.

"Hot..."

"What?"

"I said you look pretty hot, you'd attract quite a lot of fans wearing that."

"Don't say it that way, you might lead me on."

"No." Flick, "Flirting." Flick, "With." Flick, "Me." Flick.

Kanoe covered his forehead to prevent me from flicking it again just in case, I just stood there and waited for him to take another outfit into the changing room to try on.

"It's not flirting, it's teasing. Get it right." He took another outfit from the cart and walked towards the changing rooms again.

"Well, it sure as hell sounded like it."

I watched him shut the door then sat down on on of the benches while I waited for Kanoe to show off the next outfit.

It's true though, he is quite attractive. But I'm just not all that interested in him. He's my roommate and he's a little persistent, need I say more?

The door swung open again to reveal his next outfit, I looked up from the floor to judge.

"Nah, too colorful. I'd say keep the shirt, ditch the pants."

"You say the most perverse-sounding things so casually, aren't you aware that sounds like you're trying to seduce me?"

I frowned, fixating my icy lavender gaze to match his warm liquid silvery one.

"If I wanted to seduce you, you'd have been mine by now. But I don't, so unless you want me to kick your groin so hard it turns purple and falls off, I'd suggest you shut up and get another outfit already."

Thankfully, Kanoe easily complied with my wishes and took another outfit from the cart. I didn't really care whether or not he decided to actually do it, I quite liked the idea of payback for Kanoe being an a$$.

"How about this one?"

I surveyed the outfit he wore for a moment.

"Nai."

At the end of the day, we ended up with 8 bags of clothing and nowhere to put them. And owning a tiny Mazda didn't help much.

"I feel like a clothing hanger." I commented, holding two bags in each hand while walking into the elevator.

"You kinda look like one too." I elbowed Kanoe in the side, "Ow."

"That just makes you a very fashionable clothing hanger."

"I guess you're not wrong about that..."

"Oh, wait a minute... I think I left my phone in the car. Just go up without me, I'll be up in a minute."

I exited the elevator just as the doors closed and walked back through the lobby into the parking lot. For a while, all I felt was the swirl of cool air around me and the feel of the pavement under my sneakers. But only moments later, a chill crept down my spine through the marrow of my bones.

I stopped walking, it was quiet. Almost too quiet. The dark stretch of night sky blanketed the clear blue that had been present hours before, and the mist was so dense I could barely make out the shadowy figure of another person standing a few feet away.

My eyes widened in realization, I have treaded a dark path and I guess this must be the end of the road. This person, was most likely here to represent the cliff at the edge of the trail.

I evened out my breathing, and set my bags down on the cold pavement. A one-sided grin slowly crept up the side of my mouth, exposing my pearly white teeth in an almost perfect crescent. I knew what I was doing, and I had every intention of letting it happen.

"If you're here to end my journey.... then I accept it with open arms. I have had my last laugh, and so I give you full permission to kill me."
